Departmental Overview
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) consists of more than 250 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).
Responsibilities
• Monitors adherence to master plans, budgets, and schedules. • Manages building services to ensure guests, tenets, staff, and student-athletes receive the best possible experience when using our facilities. • Identifies problems and develops solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing project scope. Ensures a comprehensive maintenance program is in place for all facilities and equipment. • Establishes and oversees health and safety standards as they relate to IA facilities. Ensures the facility is compliant with all code, public safety, and permits. • Ensures all systems, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection meet Campus, local, and state standards. • Coordinates with IA Scheduler the use of facilities for practice, competition, and outside entities. • Departmental liaison to Recreation Sports on issues and requests involving IA facilities.
2. Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Advanced knowledge in the areas of facilities management, space planning and allocation, security, fire, and safety/emergency preparedness.
• Experience in working in a unionized and trade environment. • Experience in managing capital projects.
• Experience and knowledge to inspect construction in progress of general and specialty structures, read, sketch and interpret plans and specifications.
• Strong skills to facilitate and collaborate with various internal and external constituencies on long- and short-term facilities planning and management.
• Strong analytical and research to meet regulatory and budgetary reporting requirements. • Strong skills in management, regulatory compliance, and operations planning. • Strong skills in leadership, motivation of staff and team-building. • Strong skills in verbal and written communications. • Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the Pacific-12 Conference, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
