Departmental Overview
The University of California at Berkeley recently announced plans to combine common functions that
currently exist in both Student Affairs (Residential & Student Service Programs or RSSP) and
Administration and Finance-Real Estate (RE). The custodial, facility maintenance, design & project
services, and campus restaurant units will transition from RSSP to RE.
We are seeking a highly experienced project manager to oversee this transition from design to
implementation.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the transition of facility services
functions and campus restaurants as well as retail space from Student Affairs-RSSP to Administration and
Finance-Real Estate. The incumbent will manage the development and implementation process involving
departmental or cross-functional teams; will plan, coordinate and monitor schedules, budgets, staff and
deliverables, monitoring the project from initiation through delivery; and organize the interdepartmental
activities ensuring completion of the project is on schedule and within budget constraints.
The position requires demonstrated experience and success in managing complex personnel and
financial integration projects that affect large and diverse stakeholder populations. The project
manager will be expected to communicate directly with university leadership and stakeholder
2. groups. Therefore, the position requires excellent written and verbal communications skills and
great political acumen.
Required Qualifications
● Expert knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories,
models to assess, design and implement customized organizational interventions
● Recognized as an expert in the area of project management and change management;
applies a high degree of knowledge, principles, practices and procedures
● Must have excellent skills in business organization and operation
● Must be able to work in a highly collaborative manner in order to achieve results which are
significant in scope
● Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead highly significant engagements from
inception to conclusion
● Knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research
universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.
● Demonstrates superior analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation
skills
● Possesses superior consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
● Demonstrates superior strategic-thinking and consulting skills in guiding the campus
toward workable strategies and solutions
● Highly-skilled in navigating organizational complexity
● Incorporates excellent skills in change management programs on a regular basis.
● Must have superior written, verbal and presentation skills for influencing and facilitating
sustained change
● Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on
information obtained
● Sound judgment, ability to draw unbiased conclusions
● Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision
● Ability to facilitate and influence people at all levels
● Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.
● Ability to handle multiple constituencies, agendas, engagements and tasks, and to deal
productively with ambiguity and conflict
● Experience managing cross-functional projects
● Knowledge and ability to produce a comprehensive project plan and budget
● Demonstrated political acumen
● Strong ability to understand and oversee complex financial analysis
● Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Preferred Qualifications
● Advanced degree
● Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management
Institute
● Familiarity with higher education context

Additional Information
This is approximately a 2-year contract.
