Reporting to the CSS Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Communications , directs and manages a comprehensive communications program for the Campus Shared Services (CSS) organization, which consists of more than 700+FTE. The communications requirements are extremely complex and address multiple stakeholders, both internal to CSS and throughout campus, from the executive level to the frontline workers. Strategic communications planning for each of the many stakeholder groups is critical as each stakeholder group has unique and specific needs. The communications function must build the credibility of CSS on campus through proactive communications that are the right communications, to the right people, at the right time, and in the right way. The function must also strategically tell the UC Berkeley CSS story to external audiences. The incumbent establishes objectives and work plans, delegates assignments to subordinates, and ensures delivery of results. The incumbent is responsible for managing expenditures against a budget; reviews and approves communications plans, and provides recommendations for units within the CSS organization. The incumbent and develops, modifies, and executes CSS communications guidelines.
The Campus Shared Services (CSS) implementation project is part of UC Berkeley’s Operational Excellence effort, a multi-year, multi-project effort to make the operations of UC Berkeley more efficient so that the University may direct more resources away from administrative expenses and toward teaching and research. Responsibilities
Manages a comprehensive communicationsprogramforCampusSharedServices:
Works withCSSCOO andseniorleadershipteamtocreate a communicationsstrategy,and
developandimplementcomprehensivelongandshorttermplansand/orprojects.
Providesadvice andcounsel toCSSleadershiponall aspectsof CSScommunications,
includingstrategicplanning,effective messaging,problemresolution,etcetera.
Effectivelymanagesprofessionalstaff responsibleforproducingavarietyof communication
piecesina varietyof venuesormediumsincludingwritten,visualorelectronic
communications.
Ensureseffectivenessof communicationsthroughdatadrivenmeasuresthatenable
leadershiptomake informeddecisionsthatwill achieve organizational goals.
3. Required Qualifications
Strongknowledge of all aspectsof communications,includingstrategicplanningfor various
mediavenues,technical aspectsandrequirementsof variousvenues,andmostappropriate and
effectiveapplications.
Demonstratedsuccessinstrategiccommunicationsplanningandimplementationforalarge
service organization.
Broad knowledgeand understandingof technical applicationstoeffectivelymanage/supervise
professionaltechnicalstaff,includingdesignconcepts,variousmediaandmediums,
applications,etcetera.
Strongknowledge of the campus,itsachievements,mission,vision,goals,policies,practicesand
infrastructure,anda strongknowledgeof currentaffairs,issuesinhighereducation,and/or
specializedsubjectmatter.
Strongknowledge of financial andpersonnel management,includingunderstandingof

Salary:$73,700 - 151,300 (Dependsonyearof applicable experience,internal equity,etc.)
