This document summarizes the production process for creating three video segments. Separate timelines were used for the transition segments to avoid clutter. Longer transition footage was included to avoid running out early. Relevant background videos and instrumental music were selected to accompany the text and pace. Effects like text highlighting and zoom transitions were added. Additional timelines were needed as the project grew to avoid slowing down the computer. The segments were combined and edited together at the end.
2. Transition Slides
The transition segments have all been made in
separate Premier Pro timelines.
Doing it this way helps from the main file from
looking too messy, it also makes it way less likely
that I'll lose a smaller clip in a more crowded
timeline.
I make these longer than they need to be, because I
think it's better than not dragging it out enough
and then running out of footage.
Looking for background videos for these aren't too
difficult, if they're for a specific topic then I'll try to
find a video that links to the topic, or if there isn't
one specific topic, then I'll try to find a video that's
at least visually pleasing and compliments the text.
To go along with the video, I also try to find an
instrumental song that fits with the speed the
video is going at, assuming there isn't already one
on the clip already
Including a strong blue boarder around the text
helps bring it out more, it does a lot without doing
anything really at all.
Lastly, I smooth the animation out which stops the
moving text from looking too janky and unfinished.
3. The First Segment
This is the entire first section of the video. It
features new editing styles that I've never really
tried before, a few of these include: Highlighting
text on screen, sliding new frames over the old
ones, zoom transitions, a shaking screen effect,
text that follows along with a commentary track
and changing the opacity of a frame, so it blends
with another clip.
Finding an instrumental for this was a bit of a
challenge, I needed a calm acoustic, that wasn't
too popular, and one that wouldn't be too loud
so that it overlaps my own commentary track. I
found one after about 20 minutes of looking,
and after editing with some of the audio levels
it was exactly what I was looking for.
After putting all these clips in together, with all
the effects and changes, I've noticed that I may
need to split the project into a few different
premier timelines, as this current one is starting
to run slower and is using more memory on my
PC.
Overall, I think this is a good introduction to the
topic, with maybe a few changes that will need
to be fixed a little later down the line.
4. The Second Segment
This is the entirety of the second segment, this one was actually harder
to put together for two main reasons: I tried to include even more
editing styles, and finding relevant clips took longer than I wanted it
to.
In terms of the clips, for future projects I'll include a mood
board/storyboard that features all the clips I plan on including, and I'll
go find the clips before I start work on the project.
In regard to the editing styles, I wanted to include a few more, as to
keep the presentation looking fresh, and different from the first
segment, I don't want this to look the same all the way through, and
while I did manage to include a fair amount of new editing tricks here, I
may need to sacrifice this in the third section at risk of running out of
time, and the project coming across as messy. Instead for the third
section, I'll just try and combine everything I did in the previous two
segments and combine them into one, to create a good send off for
the video.
To put this together, I did have to create a new timeline to stop my PC
from slowing down, this was a good choice as it didn't slow down any
progress.
I also had to find a new song for this part since the first song had run
through all its content, finding a new one this time wasn't too difficult
since I planned on this beforehand, and found a new song in advance.
Aside from that the general structure here is the same as the first part,
just to keep a familiar vibe to the whole thing.
5. Segment 3
The production of this last bit was mostly all the
same as the first two with a few small changes. I
dragged out the run time of the transition clip,
as a way to really properly introduce the topic. I
also slowed down the pacing in this part to try
and bring out the importance of what I was
talking about, I tried finding slower clips, and
didn't feature as many, because I wanted to give
the commentary some time to come through
towards the end, since I don't think I focused
enough on it in the other two parts .
When I finished segment 3 I saved it as a video,
as I did with the other two, and I put it into a
Premier Pro timeline with the other 2 fully
completely finished segments. I did some light
editing to them, just to make them all flow
together more naturally.
In the end all three parts came together really
well and don't look out of place when they're
compared. The only thing I would change is the
intro, because that does stick out a bit, I
should've spent more time planning that out.
Aside from the intro though, I'm happy with
how this project turned out.
