2. Age
Indie Pop genre is generally targeted at audience members of the
age 16 to 22.
The reason it is becoming popular to a younger generation, is due
to the record labels releasing snippets of information about up
coming artists and new songs to entice the audience to watch
their music.
Therefore, the use of social networks is increasing their popularity
and spreading the word to a wider audience. Most popularly
using YouTube, Facebook and Twitter etc.
3. Gender
There isn’t a specific gender that Indie Pop strives to
capture. However its stylistic origins stemmed from indie
rock (which was typically popular with men) and 1960’s
girl-group pop (which was typically popular with women)
Therefore allowing the target audiences genders to be
both men and women
4. Social Demographic
This genre is mostly aimed at 15-21 year olds that attended higher
education or university. This is because they can connect with the
indie genre due to having independence and the young age.
Furthermore. The indie pop genre is all about “independent
freedom” which men and women of these ages strive to achieve.
I believe that this genre is targeted at and would fit into the social
demographic of teenagers and young adults who are most likely to be
students.
5. Style
Additionally, the target audience which I am looking
into would typically be artistic and creative in their
own unique style.
Indie pop is a subgenre of alternative rock,
although it contrasts the rock elements by being
more melodic. This means that this gives indie pop
more retro elements and makes usage of
instruments such as guitars, piano and focus’ on
the singers vocals.
