2. Pre-production
• What are you making? I am making 3 short adverts for the city of York. I
am going to explore the 3 main aspects of the city. The sights, food and
shopping. I plan for them to be around 30-40 seconds long, each. And
include all the main things that have been put forward by the public in my
survey. These include the minster, Clifford's tower etc.
• Why? The purpose if this is to show what York has to offer in terms of
tourism and things for people to do.
• Who is it for? It is aimed at 35-64 year olds as they are the main tourism
demographic as stated by VISIT YORK
• Where will it appear/on what? It will appear on tourism company and city
Instagram and Facebook pages across the UK. It will be mainly seen
through phones and tablets rather than computers as they are more
widely used to access social media
Reflection:
3. Locations
I chose this location as it is the most iconic
building in York and the centre piece of the
town
I chose this location because
it is also a very iconic building
in York and it is very popular
with tourists
I chose this part of the walls as it
looks upon the minster and has a
lovely view of the train station
I chose this bar
as it the nicest
looking in my
opinion and is
usually the
starting point for
a lot of people
when they walk
the walls

8. Locations
I chose this location as it was
number one on Bishopthorpe
road from my survey and want
to feature it prominently.
This location was
voted number two
on the survey so
will be used in the
final video. I also
wanted to use this
as I have an
interesting
transition between
here and the P&P
I am using this location as it is very
popular with tourists due to its central
location and quality of food. I am going
to focus on the individual stalls and
what they have to offer
This location was chosen
as it’s a personal
favourite and looks very
nice inside.

13. Actor
For this video I need an actor who is dressed up like a tourist to act like a tourist
Sunglasses
Camera
Touristy
street
clothes
I chose all these as they best
represent a tourist who visits York.
My main demographic is the older
generation however I don’t have
access to someone who fits that so
I will use the someone from the
next demographic, younger that
35. I have some specific props they
will need such as sunglasses and a
camera as 90% of tourists have
those on them a lot of the time.
14. Locations
I chose this location as it is a
very popular shopping street
and has the iconic old leaning
buildings
I chose this location as it was voted
number on my survey and has the
more well known shops on it
I chose this location as it
leads down onto the
coppergate shopping
centre and I have an
interesting shot idea
inside the square so this
will be a nice build up to
it
I chose the shambles and it
is one of the most well know
shopping streets in York due
to its high and leaning
buildings and old style
architecture.
I chose to shoot browns as I
have an interesting orbiting shot
I want to do and as it is on a
corner I thought of no better
place
I chose this location as it
has a wonderful view of
the minster peaking out
over the top of the shots
that will look nice from a
low angle

19. Music
• For this video I am going to use $orries by Peachy! And
Shiloh. I am using this because it is very up beat happy song
and has a lot of places where my jump cuts can happen and
where my my longer transitions can happen.
• It will be taken from near the end of the track as it is the
most musical and not got any lyrics that could be
distracting or have no meaning related to the theme of the
video. 2.27 -> 3.34
• I also considered making my own music so I could edit the
video first and time the kick and snare hits in the music
with the cuts after wards so nothing has to be cut or missed
out. If I have time I will make it and see if it will work at the
end of the production weeks.
20. Resources • I am going to use my tripod for all the steady
moving shots as it keeps it very still and I can
re frame the shot after every photo easily
• I will use the shoulder mount for the video
clips as it will be very stable and looks very
smooth after stabilized in post
• I chose this camera and lens combo because I
have access to all the kit I need at home and
wont need to book anything out. This makes
it easier to shoot as I can shoot anytime I am
free.
• The 10-18mm lens is great for the buildings
and wide shots as it is a wide angle lens. This
allows me capture a lot of context to the
scene
• The 18-200mm lens is great for everything
else as it has a very wide focal range so can
be used for almost every shot I need
• I am going to use Lightroom and Photoshop
to edit any individual photos that need it.
• I am going to use Premier Pro for compiling,
editing and colour grading of each video as it
is the best video editing software available to
me
• I will also use after effects for the motion
tracking aspects and any more complex
effects like stabilisation etc.

21. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Loosing data on computer Back up regularly in more than one place on
different devices
Camera breaks / lens breaks Use a college camera and lenses
Place Shut Go back on a reshoot day and film then. Or try
work around it in a different location
Weather Wait until there is a sunny day and shoot then.
I will plan ahead with the weather app so I can
find out which day is best
No show actor Change script to not include an actor. Also, I
will plan a story without an actor that will work
just as well
SD card corrupted Back up photos as soon as it comes out the
camera on a laptop etc.
22. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Hit by a car taking photos Don’t stand in traffic or stay in the road too
long. Don’t do anything dangerous
Heavy kit can hurt back Don’t carry too much at once
Eye strain from working on computers Take breaks every 90 minutes
RSI Take breaks from the mouse and keyboard and
from holding the camera and pressing the
shutter button
Poor posture Use fully adjustable chairs
Computers breaking if liquids are spilt on
them
Don’t have food or drink near the
computers.
