OVERVIEW
The Australian
Catholic University
(ACU) engaged
SHAPE to complete
an extensive fitout
and refurbishment that
comprised a number
of separate portions
across two buildings.
This was a complex
multi-faceted project
with various separable
portions and scopes.
The key client value
was to ensure minimal
disruption to university
operations and a
seamless transition
for ACU into their
new premises by the
university’s orientation
week.
SEPARABLE
PORTIONS 1, 4 AND
5 (SP1/4/5)
The first portion of
this project included
complete demolition
of one floor and
a new fitout to
accommodate ACU’s
growing staff. The
new fitout included
47 staff offices, two
receptions, meeting
rooms, computer
rooms, and two
kitchenette breakout
spaces. Separable
portions four and
five involved the
demolition and fitout
of offices, student
learning areas,
breakout spaces,
a kitchen, meeting
rooms and new
laboratories.
SEPARABLE
PORTION 2-3 (SP2/3)
The central plant
upgrade was a unique
and complex project
that involved multiple
components. SHAPE
had to include a
new structural steel
platform that was
craned in and installed
on the roof. The works
involved engineering,
logistics and services
re-configuration to
ensure the platform
fitted and was secure.
The new air handling
unit was imported
from Sweden and
is the first of its kind
installed in Australia.
COMMUNICATION
SHAPE provided
works notifications at
the beginning of each
week to enable the
university to prepare in
advance, so they were
well aware of what
works were occurring
and in what locations.
This assisted the
ACU’s Property
division to keep their
staff well informed at
all times. SHAPE also
ensured close tracking
of the programme
and forward planning,
and provided material
alternatives to ensure
that the project was
delivered on time.

“Australian Catholic University (ACU) along with
Donald Cant Watts Corke have been delighted
with the effort, attention to detail and care taken
throughout the course of the ACU Campus
Relocation Package A works. Working within
the constraints of a live university campus and
alongside other main contractors, SHAPE’s
performance to deliver an exceptional product
ahead of programme has been a remarkable
achievement. I would have no hesitation in
recommending SHAPE after working closely with
the on delivery of this project.”
