WorleyParsons was the EPcm Contractor for the Queensland Curtis Liquefied Natural Gas Project (QCLNG). The
project included 1800 well sites; 6500 km’s of gas gathering; 19 Field Compression Stations (FCS’s); 4 Central

Processing Plants (CPP’s); and 21 Blocks of around 16 km x 16 km. It was one of the largest single funded projects
underway in Australia.

YA3 Project: Ammonia Nitrate, Nitric Acid Plant ($>140m)
Managed the construction of the following areas across a site with 450 contractors. The new Ammonia Nitrate facility
included Bulk Store Prill tower; cooling tower; electrical infrastructure upgrades new sub stations; and installation of a
second-hand nitric acid plant from Denmark.The team included civil / structural engineers, field engineers, field
supervisors, schedulers / planners, document controls and safety officers. I also had indirect supervision of off-site
spooling fabricators and suppliers. The site was set up as both green-field and brown-field manning in access of 450
people working two shifts and including:
 Clearance / permit to work systems.
 Coordination of major contractors on site and day to day management of the construction teams.
 Weekly progress meetings, safety, schedule, budget, TQ’s, Variations and Site Instructions.
 Industrial relations issues.
 Involved in steering committees with major contractors and customer.
 Coordination of handover with commissioning team.
 Range of contracts (fixed, target, profit share, reimbursable).

Key achievements:
 Managed the removal of equipment from redundant Cyanide plant equipment, including structure steel and

 The removal project was completed under budget, ahead of time and with no incidents.
 Managed the refurbishment of equipment including Evaporators, Briquette Press, condensers, centrifuges and
all associated instruments ready for installation into the 60 K up rate.

 Selected for the position of Cast House Manager for the commercial plant based on displayed performance
and management ability.
 At the Demonstration plant; played an integral role in the successful commissioning of the Electrolytic Cell and
Cast House Area, including the Cell, Rectiformers, Acid plant, Hydrogen plant, Metal Holding furnaces, HDC
caster and Ingot caster.
 Selected, recruited and trained quality staff for the commission and ongoing operation of the Gladstone
Demonstration plant.
 Developed KPI, Budgets, Operating Systems and encouraged cultural change and behavioural based safety.
 Led the Cast House team to the successful production of magnesium metal cast to ASTM approved
specifications at the Demonstration Plant.
 Implemented and designed systems, improvement initiatives and management strategies for efficient
operation of the Demonstration plant, including:
 Modular based training packages for the Cell & Cast House area
 Position Profiles and Performance Review Documentation.
 Utilisation of P&ID’s, PFD’s as a training tool and to broaden technician’s understanding of the plant
and process flow.
 Encouraged the use of JSA’s as an integral part of Work Procedures development.
 Restructured the Cell & Cast House roles to suit changed data collection and informational
requirement of the project design team.
 Led the installation of a casting machine from container to assisting with appropriate layout, design of
control systems, commissioning, training and the effective safe operation.
 Improved metal delivery flow control to the ingot caster by development of a tundish level control
system for molten metal delivery.

 Provided the idea and managed the development of a hot dross treatment system and electrolytic cell
feeder system leading to the issue of provisional patents for the concepts. (Transferred into the
commercial plant design)
 Initiated and managed the development of a prototype metal tracking system for use at the Stanwell
Commercial plant.
 Worked strongly with the development of cultural objectives, selection and recruitment policy, OH&S policy,
and general site management policy for the new Stanwell plant.
Invention Title: Salt Furnace
Developed a Salt melting furnace for the recovery of Magnesium. Patent is registered under the name of AMO. The
furnaces were to be incorporated in the commercial plant at Stanwell. The operation of these furnaces made for a
reduction in dross generation of around 94%.

Detailed Design Phase. (Commercial Plant)
 Worked overseas in Canada, France and other locations directly involved with the detailed design of the Cast
House.
 Reviewed all specification and vendor documentation ensuring the Cast House was functional, operational,
flexible, and cost effective and left with the ability to expand.
 Led a team to develop “Operational Readiness” for the commercial plant covering all aspects of early
operations including:
 Operating procedure; Commissioning Plans & Procedures; and Electronic Systems for Metal tracking.
 Training Systems and documentation; Hazop and Ergonomic Studies; Frontline Leadership
Development; and installing desired Cultural Philosophy into our ever day work.
 Developed long and short term budgets and on the Selection panel for the ERP, PIMS systems.

 Built the business over a three year period from a one-person operation to employ three additional staff, with
turn over around $300,000/annum with much improved profitability.

 Managed all the day to affairs of the business, including procurement, purchasing and stock control; customer
liaison and inquiries; work scheduling; and accounts and general ledger.

Key achievements:
 Worked and contributed to improve safety in the workplace by setting acceptable standards and following
approved work procedures and practices.

 Due to his commitment to safety in the work place he was involved the implementation of new safety systems
within the cast house. This involved training of operators in root cause accident investigation and elimination of
a critical element to prevent future incidents.
 Developed the operating practices and procedure to successfully implement the Remetal under pour casting
system. This system removed the need for operators to work close to the pouring wheel (a higher accident risk
area) during casting.
 Provided shift leadership for both VDC and ingot casting teams in the successful operation of a 265,000 TPA
casthouse.
 Cast House equipment included 8 X 35 t furnaces; 4 X 25 t overhead cranes; 3 X 22 tph Gauchie Ingot
Casting machines; 1 X Vertical Direct Chill Casting pit (air-slip, maxi-cast and block); and 2 X Homogenising
furnaces, billet saw and a wide range of mobile equipment.
 Managed and facilitated the transition of his work team from award to staff conditions of employment. Thereby
opening the way for a more flexible involved and committed workforce.
 Hands on approach helped me clearly identify &articulate effective process improvements that moved the
profitability of the group to a new level.
 Work well as a team member and team leader at all levels in the operation. Proactive in planning as well as
reviewing.

Nov 2008 - June 2010 Area Manager Cast House (EPCM) EMAL Smelter Dubai (UAE) EPCM contractors building an Aluminium Smelter in the United Arab Emirates ($7B).  Lead the engineering team (EPCM) to complete the engineering and installation of the 1millon tpy aluminium cast house facility located in the UAE.  48 individual procurement, fabrication and installation contracts and16,000 construction workers site wide.  Close out engineering for Melbourne, Mumbai, Canada offices.  Manage generation of documentation related to all cast house tenders packages.  Manage team of engineers, construction and POV groups for the cast house.  Accountable for budgets, schedules, client interactions and overall cast house delivery to the client. Jan 2008 - Nov 2008 Construction Manager (Boyne Smelters Development) Boyne Smelters ($683m project) Gladstone, QLD Construction Manager as part of the owner’s team with the SSJV (EPCM) contractor to complete the following list of work within a Brownfield operating plant:  Removal of 14 large CTM cranes, install 12 new large CTA cranes.  Repair / replace reduction lines 1 & 2 Rail, column heads, braces etc.  Installation of a new dense phase Alumina distribution system into both reduction lines.  Building a new Green Field Carbon Bake facility. The new Ammonia Nitrate facility included Bulk Store Prill tower; cooling tower; electrical infrastructure upgrades new sub stations; and installation of a second-hand nitric acid plant from Denmark.The team included civil / structural engineers, field engineers, field supervisors, schedulers / planners, document controls and safety officers. I also had indirect supervision of off-site spooling fabricators and suppliers. July 1998 – Oct 2004 Cast House Manager (Operations) / Cell & Foundry Superintendent / Cell & Foundry Supervisor Australian Magnesium Corporation Gladstone, QLD Key achievements:  Selected for the position of Cast House Manager for the commercial plant based on displayed performance and management ability.  At the Demonstration plant; played an integral role in the successful commissioning of the Electrolytic Cell and Cast House Area, including the Cell, Rectiformers, Acid plant, Hydrogen plant, Metal Holding furnaces, HDC caster and Ingot caster.  Selected, recruited and trained quality staff for the commission and ongoing operation of the Gladstone Demonstration plant.  Developed KPI, Budgets, Operating Systems and encouraged cultural change and behavioural based safety.  Led the Cast House team to the successful production of magnesium metal cast to ASTM approved specifications at the Demonstration Plant.  Implemented and designed systems, improvement initiatives and management strategies for efficient operation of the Demonstration plant, including:  Modular based training packages for the Cell & Cast House area  Position Profiles and Performance Review Documentation.  Utilisation of P&ID’s, PFD’s as a training tool and to broaden technician’s understanding of the plant and process flow.  Encouraged the use of JSA’s as an integral part of Work Procedures development.  Restructured the Cell & Cast House roles to suit changed data collection and informational requirement of the project design team.  Led the installation of a casting machine from container to assisting with appropriate layout, design of control systems, commissioning, training and the effective safe operation.  Improved metal delivery flow control to the ingot caster by development of a tundish level control system for molten metal delivery.

(Transferred into the commercial plant design)  Initiated and managed the development of a prototype metal tracking system for use at the Stanwell Commercial plant.  Worked strongly with the development of cultural objectives, selection and recruitment policy, OH&S policy, and general site management policy for the new Stanwell plant. Invention Title: Salt Furnace Developed a Salt melting furnace for the recovery of Magnesium. Patent is registered under the name of AMO. The furnaces were to be incorporated in the commercial plant at Stanwell. The operation of these furnaces made for a reduction in dross generation of around 94%.  Application No. 2002950585. “Griffith Hack Patent Attorneys” Detailed Design Phase. (Commercial Plant)  Worked overseas in Canada, France and other locations directly involved with the detailed design of the Cast House.  Reviewed all specification and vendor documentation ensuring the Cast House was functional, operational, flexible, and cost effective and left with the ability to expand.  Led a team to develop “Operational Readiness” for the commercial plant covering all aspects of early operations including:  Operating procedure; Commissioning Plans & Procedures; and Electronic Systems for Metal tracking.  Training Systems and documentation; Hazop and Ergonomic Studies; Frontline Leadership Development; and installing desired Cultural Philosophy into our ever day work.  Developed long and short term budgets and on the Selection panel for the ERP, PIMS systems. This involved training of operators in root cause accident investigation and elimination of a critical element to prevent future incidents.  Developed the operating practices and procedure to successfully implement the Remetal under pour casting system. This system removed the need for operators to work close to the pouring wheel (a higher accident risk area) during casting.  Provided shift leadership for both VDC and ingot casting teams in the successful operation of a 265,000 TPA casthouse.  Cast House equipment included 8 X 35 t furnaces; 4 X 25 t overhead cranes; 3 X 22 tph Gauchie Ingot Casting machines; 1 X Vertical Direct Chill Casting pit (air-slip, maxi-cast and block); and 2 X Homogenising furnaces, billet saw and a wide range of mobile equipment.  Managed and facilitated the transition of his work team from award to staff conditions of employment.
