KIDNEY – regulate blood
volume and composition,
regulate pH, produce 2
hormones and excrete waste
URETERS- transport urine from
kidney to urinary bladder
URINARY BLADDER- store
urine and expels through urethra
URETHRA- discharge urine from
the body

The ureters transport
urine from the renal pelves
of the right and left kidneys
to the urinary bladder
10 to 12 in long
diameter from 1-10 mm
7. URINARY BLADDER
Receives urine from ureters
Stores urine
Holds 250 mL of urine
Excretes through urethra
Involuntary muscle action causes:
Bladder to contract
Internal sphincter to relax
Voluntary muscles control external sphincter
8. URETHRA
Tubular canal lined with mucous membrane
1½ inches long in females
8 inches long in males
Carries urine from bladder to outside of body
External opening is called urinary meatus
Releasing urine from body is called
