3. To help create my shirt film we had to do research. This consisted of primary
and secondary research. To conduct the primary research, I used a website
called surveymonkey.com and this helped me find out peoples preferences to
films that are my age. I did find that this research helped me to gain useful
information to help structure my film but on the other hand some people
didn’t take the survey seriously so some answers are unreliable.
We then did research on film certificates. I reviewed the differences between
12A, 15 and 18 and came to the conclusion that my film wouldn’t go above a
12A.
Finally we looked at 3 existing film products or TV shows so we could identify
things in the shows/films that we could use in our films or things that we
would disregard. This helped me to choose what colour correction I should
use and also what camera angles I would try and include.
Overall, I believe that the research was one of the most vital parts for making
my film as it helped me discover new things to incorporate into my film, such
as a colour correction scheme and camera angles.
4. To plan my film I had to fill out:
A contingency form
A call sheet
A risk assessment
A proposal
A shot list
And a story development form.
All these forms were necessary for making sure that my film went to plan
and making sure that nothing went wrong whilst filming and if anything
did go wrong, we would have a safety measure to prevent anything
dangerous. I think that the shot list was the most useful form to fill out.
This list made sure that I didn’t just film random shots and it also made
sure that my film followed some sort of structure.
5. I managed to keep good time whilst filming. For example, all my film is in
daylight and doesn’t switch from dark to light.
Everyone within the film also managed to arrive on time so time
management was also alright for this aspect.
I don’t think I could’ve improved on time management because
everything went to plan.
6. The camera was obviously the most important part of filming. The
camera its self was easy to use and we had no problems filming with it.
There was no hassle with getting the camera in focus and achieving the
right angles.
One thing we did well whilst using the camera was using the right
exposure values and getting different camera angles. Different camera
angles meant that the film would flow better and it didn’t matter if
exposure values weren’t spot on because this could be fixed in post
production.
One thing I could possibly improve on with the camera would be making
sure the camera is in focus as some shots were slightly out of focus.
7. My film only included background audio such as cars in the
background and birds tweeting. Also, because of the story of my
film, almost one third of it has non-diegetic sounds in it. For
example, I put a music track in the background and added some
sound effects. There was also only one line of dialogue.
I think that the music track fits well with the part of the film it’s in.
If I could change one thing about the audio, I would try and have
a music track all the way through my film but it was hard to find
one that fits.
8. The editing process went very well and I am happy with the final
product. I have managed to find new editing skills by watching
some YouTube tutorials and I think that the product is very
effective when you watch it.
One thing I did well within editing was discovering new
techniques that I could use for future products. I believe this may
help me create even better films.
One thing I didn’t do too well with was the music. I planned to
have music track all the way through but I only managed to
include about 15 seconds of music.
9. My film visually is bright and colourful. I have applied colour
correction which improves the look of the film so that it doesn’t
look too amateur. The film also includes many camera angles
which improves aesthetics more.
One thing to improve on next time for aesthetics could be the
location of the film as it is quite boring and plain.
10. This film is appropriate for most audiences and there is nothing
contained within the film that would make the film’s certificate
over a 12A. The storyline could be quite confusing to the viewer
but if you read what the film is about before viewing then you will
understand the plot.
Audience appeal is quite hard to improve on as everyone has
different preferences, but if I could improve on anything to do with
audience appeal then I would try and make the certificate lower
so anyone can watch it.
12. What did you like about the product?
I like the use of the glitch effect and how it is applied to the perfect
moment of action in the editing. I also like the colour change and
how it gives the scene a different mood for each shot.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
A steady camera hold on some shots are needed as it is a bit shaky, a
use of a tripod may work
13. What did you like about the product?
After watching the film, I really enjoyed the starting screen, I
thought that was a really nice touch. I also really like the glitch
effect I you had used throughout the film. I also like the storyline
and that is was easily understandable. I also like the camera
angles you have used and different shots.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
After watching the film I have found a few improvements you
could put in for next time, I think you could have had a better
ending, put your viewer on edge. Another improvement would be
make sure that your shots are in focus.
14. What did you like about the product?
I think the storyline was really good and it mainly made sense, I also
liked the variety of shots, particularly the one where he went to pick up
the watch and it changed to the watch’s point of view.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
Some shots were out of focus and the audio was quite quiet.
15. What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with the fact that the post production was effective. This is
because I managed to find an effect that pleased a lot of people
due to its realism.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
The unsteady shots. This is because some shots weren’t meant
to be steady. For example, the shot where he was looking at the
watch was filmed by hand and not on a tripod because I thought
this would add some variation into the shots so that not every
shot was filmed still on a tripod.
