3. Objectives of the course:
Writing 1 students will be able to--
 Enter Writing 2 with prerequisite pre-writing, writing, and
revising skills
 Construct developed, organized, mostly grammatically
correct, paragraphs and essays of various types, including
narrative, descriptive, and argumentative
 Begin to develop, and become more aware of, a writing
persona in relation to various audiences
 Engage in effective peer review

 Submit work following academic (MLA) guidelines
 Produce a portfolio of major writing assignments that
represent their writing progress throughout the semester
1. Students will become introduced to and practice the basic principles of
academic writing including:
- paragraph and essay construction
- various aims: expressive, informative and persuasive
(argumentative)
- various modes of organization including narration and description
2. Students will also apply and develop their knowledge of grammar
and syntax to paragraph and short essay writing.
3. Students will become prepared for drafting and revising Level 2
