Program Overview.
The 6-week TOEFL Prep Course developed by Katerina Barrie aims to help the

2. students enhance and better their knowledge of English language. Extensive in-
course materials will allow the student to study relevant, applicable subjects. Due
to the program targeting the high performance on TOEFL Tests, the students will
develop skills necessary to ace the test and to progress to the next level of
English proficiency.
Results.
This course is results-oriented. The students will be tested by a TOEFL Prep on-
line test, and the results will largely determine the in-class and independent study
concentration. While developing equally in all areas of English tested by TOEFL,
the student will have an opportunity to emphasize more deeply the areas that
appear to be most troublesome to him or her. The student will also be able to see
the results of the course by taking a second TOEFL Prep on-line test at the very
end of the 6-Week Program. The second test will also enable student to further
independent training to achieve the most desirable results.
Program Content.
The program will consist of 6 meetings - one each week, lasting approximately
two hours. The student will be expected to spend considerable time outside of
classroom on review of provided by the instructor materials, as well as any
additional materials the student may choose to select.
Although each scheduled meeting will have a specific topic of concentration, the
student will have time to ask questions and there will be time allocated for
discussion of the work student does independently outside of class.
Внимание! Программа состоит из шести встреч, раз в неделю, которые
будут длиться примерно 2 часа каждая. Несмотря на то, что каждая встреча
будет проходить в соответствии с запланированной коцентрацией, у
студента будет время на то, чтобы задать вопросы. Так же, работа,
проделанная студентом внеклассно, будет регулярно обсуждаться.
Program Cost
The total cost of the program will be $1,000.
Each class will cost $150.
The materials the student will receive, as well as two TOEFL Prep on-line tests
will cost $100.
Внимание! Цена программы составляет 1,000 долларов США. Каждое из
шести занятий будет стоить 150 долларов США. Материалы, которые будут
предоставлены студенту, а так же два TOEFL Prep он-лайн теста обойдутся
в 100 долларов США.
Before the ClassesBegin
The student will be expected to meet with the instructor to discuss the place
where the future classes will commence, as well as to sign appropriate papers
and make the payment. The classes will not take place if the student will not

3. meet with the instructor in advance to sign the documentation and make the
payment. The first meeting must be scheduled as soon as the student makes the
decision to participate in the 6-Week TOEFL Prep Course.
Внимание! Студент обязан будет встретиться с преподавателем перед
началом занятий для обсуждения будущего места встречи, подписания
документации, а так же для оплаты курса. Без подписания документов и
оплаты курсы не начнутся. Студент обязан договориться о встрече с
преподавателем как только он примет решение участвовать в программе.
StructuralSummary
The six-week program is divided into eight segments: Course Preparation (before
the classes begin), TOEFL Prep Test 1 (week 1), Speaking (week 2), Writing
(week 3), Reading (week 4), Listening (week 5), TOEFL Prep Test 2 (week 6),
and Homework (outside of scheduled class meetings). Below you will find the
summarized course sequence.
I. CoursePreparation.
The student will be solely responsible for this segment. To achieve the best
results throughout the duration of the course, students will be expected to review
any materials from their previous attempts of learning English. Students will be
expected to have the following materials ready for the first class session: a one-
page letter of personal introduction (typed and printed out), a copy of a news
article and a written summary of it (typed and printed out), a one-minute speech
about favorite hobbies (can't be fully typed; notes can be used).
Внимание! Перед началом занятий, студент обязан будет подготовить
следующие материалы: мини-сочинение о себе в формате письма длиной в
одну страницу (печатный формат), копию новостной статьи и ее краткое
содержание (печатный формат), а так же устный рассказ об увлечениях и
любимых занятиях длиной в одну минуту (студент сможет воспользоваться
заметками, но не сможет использовать полностью напечатнный текст).
II. TOEFLPrep Test1.
During the first official class meeting, a student will provide to the instructor work
listed in the above section. Then, the student will begin and finish an on-line
TOEFL Prep Test 1. Upon the completion of it, the student will receive an
explanation of the results by an instructor. Based on those results, program
content may be adjusted to allow greater concentration on areas that are most
difficult for the student.
III. Speaking.
The intensive training part of the course will begin with Speaking. During the
class, the student will be given multiple scripts detailing the subject of the
student's following speech. The student will have several minutes to prepare, and
will then present the speech to the instructor. Instructor will ask the student
questions, and will lead the student into a further discussion. The number of

4. various scripts used during this class will depend on the student and how well he
or she knows the various conversational topics. Throughout the remainder of the
course, student will continue practicing speaking English, as the instructor will
teach the course mostly in English.
Внимание! Помимо занятия, посвященного разговорной речи, студент
будет развивать разговорный английский на протяжении всего курса,
поскольку уроки будут проводиться на английском языке.
IV. Writing.
The intensive training in the Writing section of the course will consist of the
student receiving multiple scripts detailing the subject of an essay, and having to
compile a three to five paragraph essay in a short period of time. This class will
be one of the most difficult, because the student will be expected to write 5-6
essays during the two-hour session. The resulting essays will be evaluated by
the instructor, and the student will receive several recommendations for outside
of class study.
Внимание! Часть курса, посвященная письменному английскому, может
оказаться для студента одной из самых сложных, так как за два часа ему
предстоит написать 5-6 сочинений на разные темы длиной в 3-5
параграфов.
V. Reading.
The intensive training in the Reading section of the course will consist of student
reviewing various materials and learning to select key words that will help him or
her understand the overall meaning of a given piece. Then, a student will be
asked to translate hard-to-understand vocabulary terms based on context. Also,
the student will review basic English grammar to be able to answer grammar-
related questions on TOEFL Test later on.
Внимание! В этой части курса, студент научится выделять главные слова в
различных статьях, отрывках литератуных прозведений, и даже рекламных
материалах для того чтобы иметь возможность понять их основное
содержание. Студент научится подбирать правильный перевод для редких
словарных слов, с которыми он раньше не сталкивался. Так же, основная
грамматика английского будет повторена со студентом.
VI. Listening.
The intensive training in the Listening section of the course will consist of the
verbal interactions between the student and the instructor. Various forms of
interaction will come into play - the instructor will read short paragraphs of text,
tell stories, and even describe objects the student will have to guess. In turn, the
student will produce written summaries and responses in English that will show
his or her underrating of the verbal language.

5. Внимаине! Для развития понимания разговорного английского, в этой части
курса студент будет слушать новостные отрывки, рассказы, и даже
описания предметов названия которых он должен будет отгадать. После,
студент будет писать небольшой пересказ того, что он услышал.
VII. TOEFL PrepTest2.
To complete the course, the student will take a second TOEFL Prep on-line test
to see the improvement of his scores and to identify areas for further self-study
(to achieve the most desirable results on the actual test). Final recommendations
will be given to the student by the instructor.
VIII. Homework.
The student will be expected to spend 5-9 hours outside of class on the
development of necessary English language skills. Accordingly, student will
receive assignments directing his or her self-study, and the professor will collect
and review the work developed by the student.
Внимание! Студент будет ответственным за внеурочные занятия длиной в
5-9 часов каждую неделю. Студент будет получать задания для работы с
предоставленными в начале курса материалами, и должен будет сдавать
их на проверку в начале каждого занятия.
Conclusion.
The course will improve the overall knowledge of English language by the
student, as well as significantly improve his or her scores on TOEFL Exam. The
student will receive skills necessary to understand spoken and written English, as
well as develop an ability to write and speak English. The student will be
encouraged to contact the instructor via email and Skype for further questions
and recommendations regarding continuing self-study upon the completion of the
course.
