"Wow, that's a great digger Thomas! What can it do?"
Thomas: "Dig!" and pretended to dig with it.
The assistant observed that Thomas was interested in construction vehicles and digging. She assessed that he was developing his imagination and language skills.
For planning she suggested adding more construction vehicles and materials like sand and water to the outdoor area. This would support Thomas' interests and help develop his physical, communication and literacy skills through role play.
The key worker discussed this with Thomas' parents who said he also enjoyed building with blocks at home. They agreed to the new resources and that the key worker would observe Thomas using them to see how his skills progressed.
