This document provides information about a course on sustainable tourism development offered at Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Management. 3. Course Description
• The main objective of this course is to understand the meaning of
sustainable development as it relates to tourism and learn now to
develop tourism in Nepal in such a way that it will be sustainable into
the future. Students will learn how sustainability relates to global
changes and learn the methods for ensuring that environmental,
social and cultural impacts are minimized. This course aims to
develop students’ knowledge and skills in destination planning and
management to ensure sustainability in Nepal’s tourism industry.

4. Course Objectives:
• By the end of the course, the students will be able to: - Understand
the meaning and significance of sustainable tourism - Explain the
ways in which the international community has sought to adopt
global changes to ensure sustainable tourism - Evaluate various
methods of tourism planning, management and control to ensure
sustainability - Explain the emerging concepts and trends of
tourism, especially environmentally friendly tourism - Identify areas
where sustainable tourism is being successfully achieved in Nepal

5. Subject Plan
• Classes will consist of four hours each week of lectures, class
discussions, and small group work. Students will be expected to carry
out individual exercises as homework in order to assess their
thorough understanding of the subject. Classroom attendance,
participation and preparedness are essential for the successful
completion of this course. Students should refer to the college
calendar for attendance regulations.
