How does your media
product represent
particular social groups?
The model on the cover of a male teenage magazine represents the
audience for the reader.The model which is seen on music
magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘NME’ gives us an impression which
allows them to illustrate the characteristics of their targeted
readers. For my music magazine my target audience is 18- 24.The
model seen on my cover of ‘Triplemmm’ is the typical music artist,
which you can tell by the clothes he is wearing and the microphone
in is hand. But the reader is not led to feel envious of the model - on
the contrary, my audience are encouraged to inspire to something
like this.This is an idea which I am very keen to incorporate in to my
magazine as my target audience is very impressionable.The cover
photo does this by looking up at the model representing him as an
idol to my target audience.The diamante jumper the model was
using, connotes luxury and power, which draws the readers
attention and makes them idolise him, inspiring a generation.
As my target audience is
alternative music listeners
in the age range I had to
make sure the magazine
represented them so the
audience could identify
themselves with the
models and stories which
would create an extremely
strong interest. I made my
model look like the
stereotypical alternative
music fan to create this
connection and
representation with the
audience.
I have created a mood
board to show the
stereotypical
representation of my
audience.

I have posted my
music magazine front
cover on Facebook,
here were the
responses I received
that are relevant to
this question. Also
these comments are
from the age group of
my target audience 18-
24 year olds. I believe
this is important to do
as I am able to receive
really constructive
feedback from the age
group my magazine is
aimed at.

Twitter, here was the
response I received that is
relevant to this question.
Also this tweet is from the
age group of my target
audience 18-24 year olds. I
have decided to post my
cover on twitter as well to
get a wider range of
feedback.This is very useful
as I can then act upon the
feedback given. Also my
target audience is
predominantly on social
media sites so I know it
would be my intended
audience giving their
feedback.
