2. Demograph of a Rock
Magazine
There is a clear demographic to rock
magazines, due to the constant bland colour
showing that people who take a like to the
colours, or primarily a strong interest in the
artist. This could be middle aged men and
some women who have followed the artist for
a while or young people who are into the
colours and just so happen to stumble upon
the artist.
3. When it comes to conventions, these
magazines have a few things in common,
these are that the magazine share the same
colour scheme pretty much, these being
black and white with the main feature slap
bang in the middle of the page, with text
practically all around it, but mainly below
the photo with the title above it. The font is
different also, with the title being one font
and the text below the photo a different
font. A common difference is that when
there’s a group photo, the singer is often
stood to the front of the group with the
others in the background.
5. Mast Head
Mast Head – The mast head
is the word “KERRANG”
which looks like shattered
glass, its got the background
of black and the font is white
to make it stand out. Also the
edges of the words look
worn out
6. Image
The picture put simply is just 3
people, all with black hair, one
of which is closer to the camera
showing dominance or him
being the leader of the band,
or perhaps just the main part
of the band. The one at the
front has more obvious
makeup on, suggesting the
magazine owners want the
audience to look at him and
not the other two.
7. Buttons
The buttons are the 4 images
down the left side of the
page, these pictures are of
bands in the same genre I
suppose, they may be ones
that will draw a readers
attention, also, by adding
some kind of gift with the
magazine, people may want
to buy the magazine just for
those, so it is also a
marketing sceme
8. Anchorage
The Anchorage also goes
with the header, in the way
it’s a white font with a semi-
black background, the fonts
are similar, but the
anchorage is better quality
writing. Also, the use of
“Punk Megastars” may mean
that people could think that
there are better Punk bands,
so they buy this to see what
its about.
9. Header and Footer
The header and footer are
similar, they both include
bands that are close to the
headlining band, usually people
start from the top of the page
and work themselves down, so
popular bands are put at the
top so people who just wander
by and scan the front cover will
see maybe AC/DC and buy it
due to their interest towards
AC/DC, and more unpopular
artists are at the bottom as
they will have smaller articles
in the magazine.
