2. Introduction
 In this PowerPoint, I will be talking about three
genres of music magazines and will then make a
judgement on what genre my personal magazine will
be on. The three genres I will research are:
- Hip Hop/ Rap
- Rock
- Classical

3. Hip Hop/ Rap
The target audience of this magazine page is mainly
aimed at male young adults. These magazines are
effective because the covers include the main
artist – who is well known – and makes them the
focus of the magazine. For example, T.I, a well
known artist, is the only person on the page.
T.I is represented as a gangster by the short hair cut,
and the chain. These costume features are
common for a gangster. Also, his facial
expressions are quite serious, which could say
that he is not someone to be messed around with,
and therefore fits the profile of a gangster
A common feature of the magazine is that the main
picture covers the Masthead, to show his
importance. Also, there are Sub Headings around
the sides of the page, which are common in many
magazine covers.

4. Rock
The target audience for the rock genre are for both males
and females and of any age from teens and above. The
magazine pages are effective because like most other
music genres, there is usually a musical artist or a
band being the main focus. An example of this is on
this magazine cover, ‘Deep Purple’ are on the cover, a
band most people will know of.
The band on the music magazine is represented as a
bunch of happy people, which proves that they are a
band that enjoys what they do. They are dressed
typical for a rock band as they are all dressed in dark
clothing, bring out the gothic side of the magazine.
Also, there are a variety of hair lengths. A convention
of a rock artist is that they have long hair. Many of
this band follow this convention.
A common feature of the rock magazine is that the
masthead is at the top of the magazine and the
biggest font of all fonts on top. Another common
feature of the magazine is that the band’s name is in
front of the band and in a different font size and
colour to everything else on the page. This is effective
because it is eye catching for the viewer.

5. Classical
The target audience of this magazine is mainly aimed at
the older generation and people who enjoy listening
to it. The page is effective because it has a composer
on the front and being covered by the Masthead. As
the masthead is what tells the audience what the
magazine is called, it needs to be big and in a
contrasting colour. The background is white and the
fonts are basic and clear.
The woman, Janina Fialkowska, is presented as a
peaceful woman who seems to be getting old. This is
effective because this could attract the target
audience as they are of the same age. Also, the genre
‘Classical’ is quite high class and Janina’s clothing is
quite smart and seems like a material of which an
upper class woman would most likely be wearing.
Also, the woman seems to be glowing. This could
represent her as an angel, and the music she makes
is heavenly.
A common feature of the magazine page is that the
fonts are big and clear and the subheadings are
spread around the sides of the pages. Also, the
woman on the front is clearly named at the bottom
and this is effective because it can catch a fan’s eye
and make the audience want to buy the magazine.
