3D braided fabrics are fabrics in which yarn runs through the braid in all three directions, formed by inter-plaiting three orthogonal sets of yarn.The fiber architecture of three-dimensional braided fabrics provides high strength, stiffness, and structural integrity, making them suitable for a wide array of applications. 3D fabrics can be produced via weaving, knitting, and non-weaving processes.

2. INTRODUCTION
 3D Braiding is a unique technology for producing high
volume, yet low cost composite with 3D fabric as
reinforcement .
 Braiding Techniques of 2-step,4-step full braiding
method, Multi step braiding method
 3D braids show improved mechanical and structural
properties.
 3D braided fabrics have high Torsional stability and
structural integrity.

3. 3D BRAIDS
o Braids are intertwined textile structures
characterized by bias yarn orientation.
o 3D braiding threads cross each other in
diagonal direction to their own edges.
o 3D braids are characterized by the existence of
through-thickness reinforcement.
o Two different configurations of 3D braided
carbon fiber/epoxy matrix composites .

4. BRAIDING TECHNOLOGY
Circular braiding
 Circular (tubular or round) braids
are formed hollow or around a
Centre core.
 A circular braiding machine
consists of the machine and the
other set turn in counterclockwise
direction.
 The clockwise and
counterclockwise paths cause
the two sets of yarns to intersect,
thus producing a tubular braid
 Circular braiders are called as
“Maypole Braiders” since their
motion is similar to the maypole
dance

5. FOUR-STEP BRRAIDING PROCESS
 A 1*1 braiding pattern denotes that each carrier of the same
row or column moves at each step one position either
horizontally or vertically in an alternating manner
 The third and the fourth step are the reverse movements of
the first and second steps, respectively.
 At the end of one machine cycle the yarn carrier arrangement
is the same as the initial configuration.

6. 3D ROTARY BRAIDING
 These single patterns are distributed
over the horn gears of the 3D-rotary
braiding machinery.
 Stringing together the crossing and
braiding patterns forms a tubular grid
structure.
