 3D braiding is a technique used in the multidirectional
near-net shape production of high damage tolerance
structural composites
 It is a intertwining of three or more sets of yarns in a
way which enables the yarns pass over one another
that each yarn passes through X,Y, and Z axis, thus
providing a reinforcement with the thickness.
 It is an extension of the 2D process reinforcement
with the thickness

 3D braiding have been produced many complex
structural shapes due to
 its through-the-thickness reinforcement.
Examples are C-sections, I-beams, hollow
squares, and tubes, also rocket nozzle sections.
 3D braided preforms are fabricated by traditional
maypole braiding or innovative four-step and two-
step braiding or multi step braiding and 3D rotary
braiding
