IN-DEPTH
FRAGMENTED
OPPOSITION WILL
FIND ACHIEVING
UNITY DIFFICULT
ith 2024 approaching opposition parties led
by the Congress are chasing a chimera called
unity. Will it happen? And if it does, will it be
strong enough to take on the BJP with some success?
It looks quite unlikely. Their differences, ideological
and regional, are far too many to be papered over.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which was described by
Rahul Gandhi as BJP’s B-team, will have a turf war
with the Congress when the state goes to poll. As-
sembly elections are due in Telangana later this year
and Rahul Gandhi is hoping for a Karnataka like win
in Telangana. Some BRS leaders are already joining
the Congress. All this may not please K. Chan-
drashekhar Rao.
Arvind Kejriwal will join the grand alliance on his
terms keeping Punjab in mind. Akhilesh Yadav and
Mayawati are going to be equally tough customers.
Besides, there are trust issues like which party is
likely to choose the BJP over the Congress. Clearly,
they have a long way to go.
W
BJP GETS EVEN WITH
SHARAD PAWAR
he Bharatiya Janata Party has got the better
of master strategist Sharad Pawar by baiting
his nephew Ajit Pawar to walk out of the
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The first attempt
in 2019 had ended in huge embarrassment for the BJP
whenAjit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister
with Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister to keep
Maha Vikas Aghadi out of power. Ajit Pawar sprang
another big surprise three days later when he went
back to the NCP leaving the BJP red-faced.
Led by Devendra Fadnavis the BJP was not taking
any chances this time and held its cards close to its
chest until the final
blow was dealt. Two
NCP MPs — Praful
Patel and Sunil Tat-
kare — were present
at Ajit’s oath taking
ceremony along with
eight MLAs. Patel’s
leaving NCP is more
stunning than Ajit’s
as he has been a long
associate of Sharad
Pawar and was ap-
pointed NCP’s work-
ing president last
month.Patelisagood
example of there be-
ing no permanent
friends in politics.
Ajit Pawar has
joined the Eknath
Shinde government as Deputy Chief Minister along
with Fadnavis. After Shiv Sena, will the Congress
with 45 MLAs be BJP’s next target?
Equally important to watch will be the next move
by the wily Sharad Pawar who, instead of moping
over the split in NCP, appears to have hit the road
running to seek sympathy and support of his workers
for his party’s revival. The success of his move will
be politically important not only for the NCPbut also
Opposition unity.

he unprece-

India has been striking and,
frankly, puzzling. Follow-
ing the pageantry of US
PresidentJoeBidenhosting
a state dinner for Indian
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi,andofUSSpeakerof
the House Kevin McCarthy
inviting Modi to address a
joint session of Congress
for a second time, one won-
ders if America is giving
away the store and getting
very little in return.
Afterall,symbolssuchas
these are the least of it.
Amongotherthings,theUS
is transferring sensitive mil-
itary technology to a non-
treaty partner, nudging its
companiestoinvestinIndia,
easing visa restrictions for
Indian nationals, and desist-
ingfrompubliclychastising
Modi’s government for its
democratic backsliding. In
effect, America has drawn
Indiaintoaone-sidedquasi-
alliance: it seems to have
taken one, at most one-and-
a-half, to tango. The strate-
gic rationale, of course, is
the need to counter-balance
China. But what is the In-
dian quo for the American
quid?
The former US diplomat
Ashley J Tellis believes the
US is making a “bad bet,”
becauseIndiawillneverpar-
ticipate in coalition warfare
with the US against China
unless its interests are di-
rectly threatened. In a Sino-
American conflict over Tai-
wan, India would remain on
the sidelines, despite the
generositytheUShasshown
it. Even US National Secu-
rity Adviser Jake Sullivan
has acknowledged this.
But India experts such as
Pratap Bhanu Mehta, a for-
mer vice chancellor of
Ashoka University, point
out that the US will increas-
ingly need India as its own
hegemony erodes.The new
axis of autocracies includes
not only China, Russia, and
Iran but also Saudi Arabia
and even Turkey.
Faced with this geopo-
litical development, the US
at least needs to forestall
any potential cooling with
India, lest it find itself more
isolated. Not only is Amer-
ica’sadversarycountrising,
but its allies leave some-
thing to be desired. Europe
is predictably inconsistent
and ambivalent, especially
whenitcomestoChina;and
though Japan and South
Korea are reliable allies,
their demographic decline
deprives them of real heft.
But more to the point, it
is not clear that the US
needs to go to such lengths
to prevent India from join-
ing the axis of autocracies.
After all, China is a hostile
neighbor, SaudiArabia is a
global financier of militant
Islam, and Russia – its pri-
mary military supplier – is
headed for disorder. Part-
nership with such countries
is not remotely enticing for
India. Likewise, India,
with its influential diaspora
and basic congruence of
economic and military in-
terests, has little to gain by
openly snubbing the US.
So, the US is giving
away quite a lot either for
something that India will
never sign up to (military
engagement against Chi-
na), or for something that
India would do regardless
of the enticements on offer.
What are American strate-
gists thinking?
Yet for all the euphoria
aroundIndia’sgrowthpros-
pects, it is still a long way
from matching Chinese
economic and financial ca-
pabilities. China’s GDP is
more than five times great-
er than India’s at market
exchange rates, and about
2.7 times greater at pur-
chasing-power-parity rates.
Moreover, China’s military
spending is 3-4 times great-
er, and its foreign exchange
reserves (to the extent that
they can now be measured)
are easily 6-7 times larger.
The multiple on China’s
total trade over India’s is
similar, and its lead in glob-
al development lending is
astronomical.
Though by no means
guaranteed, this scenario is
plausible if India develops
better policies and stronger
institutions. It would not
eliminate the large China-
India hard-power differen-
tial, but it could narrow the
gap enough to force China
to re-calibrate its decision-
making. For example, if
China’s five-fold GDP ad-
vantage over India was to
be halved over the next
two decades, Chinese lead-
ers could no longer afford
to discount the possibility
of India retaliating on trade
or along the border.
Moreover, the future is a
process, not some hypo-
thetical endpoint. If Chi-
nese growth were to wane
and India’s were to remain
durably robust, its relative
attractiveness as a partner,
market, and investment
destination would in-
crease. In that case, the
strategic calculus would
change well before India
reached a size sufficient to
counterbalance China.
SOURCE: PROJECT SYNDICATE
BOOSTING
FORTUNES
True, whether India can
grow at 6% will be deter-
mined by Indian, not Amer-
ican, policymakers. But the
US believes it is providing
an important nudge at a
critical geopolitical moment
to boost India’s fortunes.
With China becoming more
aggressive as its long-
term growth prospects are
revised downward, US
actions also could encour-
age more capital to exit the
Chinese market.
And while re-shoring is
the preferred outcome, the
US will not object if fleeing
capital decamps to India.
US actions could also help
upgrade India’s military ca-
pabilities. In effect, the US
is proclaiming to the world
that India is “one of us.”
The fact that India is being
coy about openly embrac-
ing that status ultimately
may be less important.
Properly understood,
Biden’s “India Bet” is not
about securing Indian mili-
tary support in a hypotheti-
cal standoff with China, nor
is it designed to prevent
India from drifting toward
the axis of autocracies.
Rather, it is a calculated
prod aimed at narrowing
the real and perceived
power gap between India
and China. The smaller
their hard-power imbal-
ance, the more effective
the counter-balance for
America vis-à-vis China.
UnderstandingBiden’s
BigBetonIndia
With its new, unprecedentedly generous approach
to India, the United States would appear to be
giving away quite a lot in exchange for very little.
Yet when considered from a long-term
perspective, the American strategy makes
sense for an increasingly multipolar world

that is a fact. He has

that the people of Guja-

When he was the Chief

maintained that if there
needs to be industrial
development, then there
is the ‘Single window

Modi, be it Tata or any
other company. Now, he
is the Prime Minister
and has got the chance
to do much more and in
Gujarat, execution is
better and there are min-

brought India’s first

Gujarat and this is just
the beginning. Gujarat is
set to welcome a Google

You will see that in the
next few years, Gujarat
will be India’s number
one business capital.
This is a matter of pride
for not just Gujaratis,
but for Indians.
Whom would you like
to give credit for the ex-
cellent administrative
arrangements made
during the Prime Minis-
ter’s visit to America
and Egypt?
See, the credit goes to
the team of PMO and
Minister of External Af-
fairs, S Jaishankar. This
team, which comprises
of four individuals is
extremely strong. It has
Ajit Doval, PK Mishra,
S Jaishankar and Hiren
Joshi and this is the core
group. Perhaps Joshi
wasn’t there this time
around as he had visited
earlier, but the other
three were there. So,
this is a well-knit team
of experts in their re-
spective domains. Also,
it is worth noting that
the Foreign Minister has
started attacking politi-
cally also. He is trying
to change his profile of
that of a ‘bureaucrat’ to
a ‘politician.’ When he
was given the responsi-
bility, people were sur-
prised that an officer of
the Indian Foreign Ser-
vices has been chosen as
the Foreign Minister.
However, it is for every-
one to see that this ex-
periment of Modi has
proven to be a great suc-
cess. Earlier, media
management used to be
a problem when our rep-
resentatives went
abroad, but this time,
media control was su-
perb. There is perfect
tuning and coordination
 the planning for the
visit was impeccable.
And I would say that
Modi is lucky to have
this team.
How do you see S
Jaishankar’s role in
these recent foreign vis-
its of PM Modi?
First, he maintains a
low profile. Secondly,
he has good grasp over
the nuances of foreign
relations. Thirdly, he en-
joys complete faith and
trust of PM Modi. His
coordination with Ajit
Doval is seamless and
this is vital for security.
The arrangements dur-
ing this visit were close-
ly handled by him. If I
have to rate him, I would
say he is category one
Foreign Minister of In-
dia. He is outstanding.
What was the
controversy around
former President Oba-
ma during this visit?
It was unfortunate.
What was the need for
Obama to come out with
such a statement? But he
did and said that Modi
government has failed to
protect the rights of
Muslim minorities in In-
dia. Obama should have
considered the repercus-
sions of such controver-
sial remarks. Modi has
millions of followers in
India and abroad. Peo-
ple admire him to the
point of fanaticism and
there must be at least 10
to 12 crore men, women
and children that fall in
this category. Obama’s
remarks hurt this huge
number of people.
The Government of
India took cognizance of
it and said that such a
statement is irresponsi-
ble and also the timing
of these controversial
remarks was questioned.
Then Rajnath Singh and
Nirmala Sitharaman
took on Obama and
lashed out at him, stress-
ing that his government
bombed six Muslim ma-
jority nations with
26,000 bombs. Thus, it
was very clearly con-
veyed that you have no
moral authority to ques-
tion Modi over the treat-
ment of Muslims in In-
dia. Although some
people thought that the
matter was blown out of
proportions, but at the
end of the day, Obama is
history now. When Modi
has Biden standing next
to him and seeking his
autograph, then Oba-
ma’s remarks bear no
consequence. In fact,
people even said that
smart diplomacy also
requires listening and
not paying heed. So, it
was Obama’s viewpoint
and he had it back from
Modi’s team.
What is your
assessment of the visit
of an Indian Prime
Minister to Egypt?
Modi’s state visit to
Egypt was superb and it
was also the first bilat-
eral visit by an Indian
Prime Minister in 26
years. Modi has always
worked towards staying
close and connected
with nations that have
enjoyed deep-rooted
cultural ties with India
since the ancient times.
Egypt extended a spe-
cial invite to Modi and
we did read in school
how Egyptian civiliza-
tion and our Indus val-
ley civilization are of
the same time- period.
Egypt is a growing na-
tion and Modi was look-
ing forward to this visit.
Egyptian President El-
Sisi was invited as the
‘State Guest’ of India
for India’s 74th Repub-
lic Day and this was ex-
tremely symbolic.
Thereafter, our Defence
Minister and Foreign
Minister also visited
Cairo. Agreements have
been signed regarding
agriculture, archaeolo-
gy and it is indeed a
matter of pride that
Egypt honoured PM
Modi with its highest
civilian honour. Well,
Modi showed a very
heart warming gesture
by visiting the 1,000
year old Al-Hakim
Mosque in Cairo, which
was also recently re-
stored with the help of
India’s Bohra’s commu-
nity. The BJP is also in-
tensely reaching out to
the Bohra and Pasman-
da Muslim communities
in India. So, of course,
there was a connect and
it was a successful visit.
Impressed by Ameri-
can technology, can he
use any new technology
in his party’s election
campaign in the com-
ing days? After all, how
did America agree to
share its technology
with India?
See, answering your
second question, every-
one salutes the rising
sun. Narendra Modi to-
day, it seems, has been
given the power of an
‘Attorney’by Biden and
Modi can get anything
done from the USA. But
the point is that there
are mutual interests.
They must have thought
that this move will help
them, so they did it. It is
a moment of pride for
India. Regarding your
first question, Narendra
Modi’s electoral idea-
tion is excellent. The
manner in which he has
used digital media for
campaigning and even
for nation building is in
front of everyone. I
have heard that Infor-
mation Broadcasting
Ministry has taken out a
tender related to Artifi-
cial Intelligence and
when it goes through,
new companies would
come and work on it.
Meanwhile, BJP, at the
party level, is using AI
in such a way that sen-
ior leaders won’t even
know what hit them!
Such would be the at-
tacks that the Opposi-
tion leaders won’t know
how to defend them-
selves. Thus, these
leaders would be en-
grossed in combating
these attacks while the
old cases of ED and CBI
would continue, and
keep them busy. Above
all, there is the ever-
present, omnipotent
narrative of Modi’s In-
dia being a ‘Vishwa
Guru’ and a powerful
nation, and this has no
match. We must all re-
member that the next
general elections would
be contested on the dig-
ital platform, in a way.
What is the message
of this visit to the inter-
national community?
The message is that
Modi has become a
‘Global leader.’ This
message has two as-
pects – one is for
‘friendly’ nations, and
the other for ‘not so
friendly’ nations. For
Pakistan and China, it
means that they should
fear Modi and not try to
cross threshold limits
with India. It is not the
India of 1962, it is the
India of 2023. This is
Narendra Modi’s India
that will strike back and
America will be on In-
dia’s side. This USA
visit is an important
milestone. On the other
hand, other nations of
the world are looking
towards India and
seeking friendship with
Modi for better trade
and economic relations.
They would get invest-
ment opportunities, as
other nations have
reached a point of satura-
tion and India is still con-
sidered a ‘virgin econo-
my.’ Therefore, the mes-
sage is that the entire
world wants to be friends
with Modi’s India so that
it is a ‘Win-Win’ situa-
tion for all.
It was believed that
India’s traditional for-
eign policy towards Chi-
na had reached it’s tip-
ping point. Will this
Modi-Biden bonhomie
be successful in stop-
ping China’s expansion-
ism in South Asia?
Both of these things
are correct. Firstly, you
spoke about foreign
policy. Modi has re-
defined and re-drafted
the country’s foreign
policy. How is that? To-
day our policies are
based around what is
beneficial to us as a na-
tion. Let’s take the ex-
ample of India’s eco-
nomic benefit. If it is to
our advantage to pur-
chase crude oil from
Russia, then we will do
so. We will not worry
about what USA or Eu-
rope will say about
Ukraine. Earlier, we
used to worry a lot
about offending the
USA. But it is no long-
er the case. India’s in-
terests come first. The
United States too has
given up its staunch
stand and said that it is
our personal choice.
This has happened for
the first time and credit
goes to Modi for In-
dia’s strong, firm and at
the same time, warm
positioning in matters
of foreign policy, be it
with any nation in the
world. Secondly, you
asked about China.
China is a problem for
India and the US as
well and now, both the
countries have come to-
gether. Of course, this
does not imply that they
will be aggressive with
China, but this means
that they will not come
under pressure. See,
sometime when two
powerful entities en-
gage with each other,
two enemies may also
become close friends.
Therefore, India has
been at the advantage
that China’s expansion-
ism in South China Sea
or in Arunachal, has
sustained a shock as a
moral influence has
come to India’s side to
stop this expansionism.
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India;

how Foreign Minister S Jaishankar played a pivotal role in making the trip a success, how
Modi’s core team, which includes NSA Ajit Doval, is the best there can be and how this visit
has given India the momentum to curtail Chinese expansionism. Excerpts… (Part-II)

We pay tribute to our Gurus
on the holy occasion of
Guru Purnima. Our parents,
teachers and spiritual Gurus, due to
whom we are alive and able to give
meaning to life.
Dr JagDeesh ChanDra,
CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India
zHow do you view
Prime Minister Modi’s
6-day visit to America
and Egypt?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Historic! The visit has
been a ‘game changer’
in all aspects. Modi is
now a global spiritual
leader with a stupen-
dous 76 % popularity
graph across the globe.
On the domestic front,
Modi has again emerged
as the most powerful
and decisive Prime
Minister of the country,
who enjoys the trust and
confidence of 140 crore
people of this nation.
We feel proud to have
such a person as the
Prime Minister of the
nation.
zWhat would you like
to say about the manner
in which Modi set a
new narrative for the
2023 and 2024 elections
in Bhopal and attacked
the Opposition leaders
as soon as he returned
from the US trip?
Wonderful. There is
no match of Narendra
Modi when it comes to
setting the narrative.
Along with Uniform
Civil Code, he set his
agenda to work on cor-
ruption and he drove
home the point that those
who met in Patna for a
‘photo session’ in the
name of Opposition uni-
ty, are all corrupt politi-
cians. He said that every
Opposition leader in the
picture has indulged in
at least “Rs 20 lakh crore
corruption.” He guaran-
teed Rs 1.25 crore in
Stalin’s name, 70,000
crore in NCP’s name,
25,000 crore in TMC’s
name and several others.
So, this clearly indicates
that while on the one
hand, the narrative of
Uniform Civil Code
would be set, the other
narrative would be of
major action taken in
cases of corruption
against Opposition lead-
ers. So once again,
Modi’s super-hit narra-
tive has been set.
zHow did the interna-
tional media respond to
Modi’s very successful
visit? Do you feel that
economy has taken the
front seat considering
the defence and trade
agreements signed
during the US and
Egypt visit?
Of course. This has
been happening for the
past few years. What
has changed in Naren-
dra Modi’s nine years of
leadership is that pow-
erful nations that once
cold shouldered India,
today look at India as a
‘Linchpin.’ Nations
want to invest in India.
So, Modi has set the
economic agenda,
whom to purchase
weapons from and who
to sell them to, from
whom to purchase
crude oil, whom to in-
vite and to encourage to
invest in India! Modi
has made India a bold
nation through strong
d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g .
Modi’s multi-aligned
foreign policy has ena-
bled India to build eco-
nomic relations, not just
diplomatic relations. I
would say that today
economy and financial
matters are deciding the
fate of the country in
foreign matters.
zThe manner in which
the US Parliament and
the Indian community
welcomed Modi has
been unprecedented.
Why this craze for Modi
in New York and Wash-
ington?
Craze is still a smaller
word. This was mad-
ness. Those who wit-
nessed it, were baffled.
Public representatives
in American Congress
were standing in line for
autographs and selfies
with Modi. The Presi-
dent and the First Lady
organised a stunning
‘Vegetarian’ State Din-
ner for him. Biden and
the First Lady held
Modi’s hands as they
ushered him into the
White House. He ad-
dressed the Congress
for 58 minutes and he
was given 15 standing
ovations and every few
minutes the Congress
would start clapping for
him. People were in dis-
belief of what was being
streamed from the
American Senate on
their television screens.
It seemed as if Modi
was contesting elections
from America and was
there to address a rally.
Such was the madness!
When he stepped out, he
met people of Indian
origin and women wept
in joy to see him, much
as if they had seen Lord
Krishna in all His glory.
Well, the fact is that
PM Modi was given the
honour of being ‘State
Guest’ for the first time
in the US even though he
has been there seven
times in the past. The
body language of both
the leaders was such that
it never appeared that
the Prime Minister and
President of two nations
were meeting, rather it
appeared as if two
friends were meeting. So
this was remarkable and
quite unbelievable. This
tour has taken Modi’s
popularity to another
level altogether. Call it
popularity or craze,
words are no longer
enough to describe what
has just happened in the
past few days.
zFriends living in
America said that for
the first time, they felt
proud to be an Indian
there. What transpired
that this scenario
changed after all?
It seems that some
‘Daivik’ power moves
about with Narendra
Modi. What we have
seen, cannot come to
pass with an ordinary
human being. Truth be
told, be it USA or UK,
historically Indians
have been treated as
second grade citizens.
Indian passport held no
or little significance.
Today they saw that
American President is
taking autograph of our
Prime Minister and peo-
ple are clicking selfies
with him. Australian PM
is terming Modi as the
‘Boss’ and some PM is
touching Modi’s feet.
This is wonderful. This is
the capability and popu-
larity of Modi’s leader-
ship. Biden is raising ‘no
alcohol’toast and saying
that Modi and US are to-
gether. They felt that not
just the Indian Embassy,
but even the people living
there are Indian Ambas-
sadors. So, you feel proud
about it. Modi’s aura and
persona that came to fore
in the US, has filled Indi-
ans with pride.
zDoes a popular Indi-
an Prime Minister like
Narendra Modi influ-
ence the politics of
votes in America as
well?
He does. Modi is a
genius. About 54 lakh
Indians live in America
and obviously they
would vote for some-
one. Earlier, Trump too
used to do all this and
the politicians realise
the fact that a great
number of Indians re-
side in the US. It would
not be wrong to say that
about 97 percent of
those Indians would be
alert to the signalling by
Modi or would know
who to vote for given
that the US is tilting to-
wards India. So Modiji,
while seated in Delhi, is
able to affect the poli-
tics in US.
zHow do you rate
Modi as a Communica-
tor?
Wonderful! His one-
to-one connect at the
grassroots has no match.
We saw in America that
everyone wanted to
shake hands with Modi
and our PM obliged.
You saw how he con-
nected with everyone
through ‘Mann Ki Baat.’
People who were never
on forefront, he brought
them forward. You saw
how he changed the dy-
namics of Padma
Awards. Nowadays, he
has found one more way
to communicate. He ex-
plains everything to
people like a teacher
does. He uses hand ges-
tures to effectively con-
vey the message in a few
sentences and as a re-
sult, other orators fail
while Modi has a terrific
mass appeal. Modi is a
great communicator and
those who must be writ-
ing his speeches or giv-
ing him inputs, must be
elated to have someone
like Modi to present
their inputs, after value
addition, and in such a
charismatic fashion.
zIt is an emotional
question, Modi of 30
years back in America
and Modi of today.
What is the difference?
There is an immense
difference. Really, it is
an emotional question. I
feel that Modi’s erst-
while equation with
America would have
crossed his mind. His
mother, if she were
alive, would have been
happy to see her son,
who was once denied
US visa, has earned
such love and respect in
the US today. Modi
might have felt bad then
and it is only human to
feel so. And today it is
the same Modi, the son
of Gujarat, for whom
Americans are doing
everything that they
can. These were won-
derful moments. Modi
himself said that 30
years back when he had
visited America, he
stood outside the White
House. People usually
stand outside the White
House and get their pic-
tures clicked and he too
might have done that.
But today, he is domi-
nating the same White
House. Our journalists
who went with Modi
from India, must have
returned extremely im-
pressed with his status.
So, definitely this was
an emotional moment of
Modi’s life.
zAfter achieving 76%
global popularity, what
is on Modi’s mind now?
I have said this earlier
too that he is a ‘Fakir.’
He has evolved into a
Spiritual Guru and now
people say he is going to
become ‘Vishwa Guru’.
His heart is such that if
one day he remembers
the mountains of
Himachal, he would
pick up his ‘jhola’ and
head to the mountains,
leaving everything be-
hind. He would become
father of the nation,
whether formally or in-
formally. So he is like
an ascetic and when he
feels like, he will do so.
But one thing is sure, he
has said that he will
continue to serve the na-
tion till his last breath.
Besides, people close to
him say that only the
Nobel Prize is left for
him. Although Modiji is
in no need of awards,
people still feel that he
should get one. As far as
Modi is concerned, he
has become a spiritual
leader and is on the path
to becoming ‘Vishwa
Mitra’ and ‘Vishwa
Guru.’ He is extremely
strong emotionally and
spiritually and sudden-
ly, one fine day, if he
takes such a decision,
then it should not come
as a surprise. However,
I do not see such a thing
happening for the next
five-six years.
zHow do you see the
manner in which
Pakistan has been
warned in the US-Indo
joint statement?
It can be counted as a
major success of Naren-
dra Modi’s diplomacy
as a very strong joint
statement was issued.
Every time it was said
that their land should
not be used for anti-In-
dia activities. But this
time around, the matter
was extremely serious.
America has not forgot-
ten the 9/11 attack and
India has not forgotten
26/11. Both the nations
are scarred and the
wounds inflicted by ter-
rorists continue to hurt.
This brings both nations
on the same platform,
ideologically, when it
comes to countering
terrorism. And it has
happened for the first
time in Modi’s leader-
ship that Kashmir issue
has practically become
non-existent. Other-
wise, that issue used to
come up every time a
PM would visit USA.
Pakistan’s economy is
in a shambles. Foreign
Minister has clearly
said that trade during
the day and terror by
night will not work. In-
dia’s foreign policy is
extremely strong and
whenever the opportu-
nity presents itself, In-
dia will take its step
against Pakistan with-
out worrying about in-
ternational pressure.
For example, Article
370 was abrogated and
prior to this, everyone
said there will be inter-
national pressure, but
see, did anything hap-
pen? Such is the situa-
tion that G20 team went
to Srinagar for meeting
and everyone was sur-
prised that the valley is
peaceful. So, Modi has
gone beyond the im-
pression and controver-
sies of international
propaganda.

s the auspicious
month of Shravan
starts today, let us
celebrate every day
of it with faith and
reverence, with deep
compassion for one
and all. Jai Bholenath!
The month of Shravan or Sawan is
the fifth month of the Hindu calendar
and holds a special place in the heart of
all Hindus. Sawan Purnima, the full
moon day during Shravan month,
aligns with the birth star of Lord Sri
Maha Vishnu's Shravan nakshatra.
Shravan maas marks the beginning
of the southwest monsoon in the Indian
subcontinent.
The entire month is dedicated to
Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati. During the
Samudra manthan when Devas and
Asuras churned the ocean for Amrit,
the poison also emerged. To save the
world, Lord Shiva consumed the poi-
son and Ma Parvati held the throat to
prevent the poison going down further
and thus Neelkantha.
With rain, as the blissful life-giv-
ing water flows from the heavens,
Mother Earth renews herself,
let us all renew our commit-
ment to faith, godliness,
truth, compassion and
humanity also.

Will it happen? And if it does, will it be strong enough to take on the BJP with some success? It looks quite unlikely. Their differences, ideological and regional, are far too many to be papered over. Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which was described by Rahul Gandhi as BJP’s B-team, will have a turf war with the Congress when the state goes to poll. As- sembly elections are due in Telangana later this year and Rahul Gandhi is hoping for a Karnataka like win in Telangana. Some BRS leaders are already joining the Congress. All this may not please K. Chan- drashekhar Rao. Arvind Kejriwal will join the grand alliance on his terms keeping Punjab in mind. Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati are going to be equally tough customers. Besides, there are trust issues like which party is likely to choose the BJP over the Congress. Clearly, they have a long way to go. W BJP GETS EVEN WITH SHARAD PAWAR he Bharatiya Janata Party has got the better of master strategist Sharad Pawar by baiting his nephew Ajit Pawar to walk out of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The first attempt in 2019 had ended in huge embarrassment for the BJP whenAjit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister with Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister to keep Maha Vikas Aghadi out of power. Ajit Pawar sprang another big surprise three days later when he went back to the NCP leaving the BJP red-faced. Led by Devendra Fadnavis the BJP was not taking any chances this time and held its cards close to its chest until the final blow was dealt. Two NCP MPs — Praful Patel and Sunil Tat- kare — were present at Ajit’s oath taking ceremony along with eight MLAs. Patel’s leaving NCP is more stunning than Ajit’s as he has been a long associate of Sharad Pawar and was ap- pointed NCP’s work- ing president last month.Patelisagood example of there be- ing no permanent friends in politics. Ajit Pawar has joined the Eknath Shinde government as Deputy Chief Minister along with Fadnavis. After Shiv Sena, will the Congress with 45 MLAs be BJP’s next target? Equally important to watch will be the next move by the wily Sharad Pawar who, instead of moping over the split in NCP, appears to have hit the road running to seek sympathy and support of his workers for his party’s revival. The success of his move will be politically important not only for the NCPbut also Opposition unity. T Led by Fadnavis the BJP was not taking any chances this time and held its cards close to its chest until the final blow was dealt. Two NCP MPs — Praful Patel and Tatkare — were present at Ajit’s oathceremony along with the 8 MLAs he unprece- dented lovef- est between the United States and India has been striking and, frankly, puzzling. Follow- ing the pageantry of US PresidentJoeBidenhosting a state dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, andofUSSpeakerof the House Kevin McCarthy inviting Modi to address a joint session of Congress for a second time, one won- ders if America is giving away the store and getting very little in return. Afterall, symbolssuchas these are the least of it. Amongotherthings, theUS is transferring sensitive mil- itary technology to a non- treaty partner, nudging its companiestoinvestinIndia, easing visa restrictions for Indian nationals, and desist- ingfrompubliclychastising Modi’s government for its democratic backsliding. In effect, America has drawn Indiaintoaone-sidedquasi- alliance: it seems to have taken one, at most one-and- a-half, to tango. The strate- gic rationale, of course, is the need to counter-balance China. But what is the In- dian quo for the American quid? The former US diplomat Ashley J Tellis believes the US is making a “bad bet,” becauseIndiawillneverpar- ticipate in coalition warfare with the US against China unless its interests are di- rectly threatened. In a Sino- American conflict over Tai- wan, India would remain on the sidelines, despite the generositytheUShasshown it. Even US National Secu- rity Adviser Jake Sullivan has acknowledged this. But India experts such as Pratap Bhanu Mehta, a for- mer vice chancellor of Ashoka University, point out that the US will increas- ingly need India as its own hegemony erodes. The new axis of autocracies includes not only China, Russia, and Iran but also Saudi Arabia and even Turkey. Faced with this geopo- litical development, the US at least needs to forestall any potential cooling with India, lest it find itself more isolated. Not only is Amer- ica’sadversarycountrising, but its allies leave some- thing to be desired. Europe is predictably inconsistent and ambivalent, especially whenitcomestoChina;and though Japan and South Korea are reliable allies, their demographic decline deprives them of real heft. But more to the point, it is not clear that the US needs to go to such lengths to prevent India from join- ing the axis of autocracies. After all, China is a hostile neighbor, SaudiArabia is a global financier of militant Islam, and Russia – its pri- mary military supplier – is headed for disorder. Part- nership with such countries is not remotely enticing for India. Likewise, India, with its influential diaspora and basic congruence of economic and military in- terests, has little to gain by openly snubbing the US. So, the US is giving away quite a lot either for something that India will never sign up to (military engagement against Chi- na), or for something that India would do regardless of the enticements on offer. What are American strate- gists thinking? Yet for all the euphoria aroundIndia’sgrowthpros- pects, it is still a long way from matching Chinese economic and financial ca- pabilities. China’s GDP is more than five times great- er than India’s at market exchange rates, and about 2.7 times greater at pur- chasing-power-parity rates. Moreover, China’s military spending is 3-4 times great- er, and its foreign exchange reserves (to the extent that they can now be measured) are easily 6-7 times larger. The multiple on China’s total trade over India’s is similar, and its lead in glob- al development lending is astronomical. Though by no means guaranteed, this scenario is plausible if India develops better policies and stronger institutions. It would not eliminate the large China- India hard-power differen- tial, but it could narrow the gap enough to force China to re-calibrate its decision- making. For example, if China’s five-fold GDP ad- vantage over India was to be halved over the next two decades, Chinese lead- ers could no longer afford to discount the possibility of India retaliating on trade or along the border. Moreover, the future is a process, not some hypo- thetical endpoint. If Chi- nese growth were to wane and India’s were to remain durably robust, its relative attractiveness as a partner, market, and investment destination would in- crease. In that case, the strategic calculus would change well before India reached a size sufficient to counterbalance China. SOURCE: PROJECT SYNDICATE BOOSTING FORTUNES True, whether India can grow at 6% will be deter- mined by Indian, not Amer- ican, policymakers. But the US believes it is providing an important nudge at a critical geopolitical moment to boost India’s fortunes. With China becoming more aggressive as its long- term growth prospects are revised downward, US actions also could encour- age more capital to exit the Chinese market. And while re-shoring is the preferred outcome, the US will not object if fleeing capital decamps to India. US actions could also help upgrade India’s military ca- pabilities. In effect, the US is proclaiming to the world that India is “one of us.” The fact that India is being coy about openly embrac- ing that status ultimately may be less important. Properly understood, Biden’s “India Bet” is not about securing Indian mili- tary support in a hypotheti- cal standoff with China, nor is it designed to prevent India from drifting toward the axis of autocracies. Rather, it is a calculated prod aimed at narrowing the real and perceived power gap between India and China. The smaller their hard-power imbal- ance, the more effective the counter-balance for America vis-à-vis China. UnderstandingBiden’s BigBetonIndia With its new, unprecedentedly generous approach to India, the United States would appear to be giving away quite a lot in exchange for very little. Yet when considered from a long-term perspective, the American strategy makes sense for an increasingly multipolar world Arvind Subramanian The writer is a senior fellow at Brown University, is a distinguished non-resident fellow at the Centre for Global Development and the author of Of Counsel: The Challenges of the Modi- Jaitley Economy (India Viking, 2018) T

May God shower all his bounties and let us celebrate this sacred time of Mother Earth. Dr JAGDEESH CHANDRA, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India What gift has PM Modi brought from America to his home state Gujarat? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: His heart resides in Ahmedabad, Surat, Ra- jkot, in Gujarat state and that is a fact. He has ruled the state for so many years and every- one is aware of the fact that the people of Guja- rat love him immensely. When he was the Chief Minister, I used to ob- serve that so many pro- jects used to come to the state and it was always maintained that if there needs to be industrial development, then there is the ‘Single window system’ of Narendra Modi, be it Tata or any other company. Now, he is the Prime Minister and has got the chance to do much more and in Gujarat, execution is better and there are min- imal hurdles. He has brought India’s first semiconductor plant in Gujarat and this is just the beginning. Gujarat is set to welcome a Google Fintech Operation Cen- tre in GIFT City and this is going to be a trailblaz- er in the fintech land- scape of the country. You will see that in the next few years, Gujarat will be India’s number one business capital. This is a matter of pride for not just Gujaratis, but for Indians. Whom would you like to give credit for the ex- cellent administrative arrangements made during the Prime Minis- ter’s visit to America and Egypt? See, the credit goes to the team of PMO and Minister of External Af- fairs, S Jaishankar. This team, which comprises of four individuals is extremely strong. It has Ajit Doval, PK Mishra, S Jaishankar and Hiren Joshi and this is the core group. Perhaps Joshi wasn’t there this time around as he had visited earlier, but the other three were there. So, this is a well-knit team of experts in their re- spective domains. Also, it is worth noting that the Foreign Minister has started attacking politi- cally also. He is trying to change his profile of that of a ‘bureaucrat’ to a ‘politician.’ When he was given the responsi- bility, people were sur- prised that an officer of the Indian Foreign Ser- vices has been chosen as the Foreign Minister. However, it is for every- one to see that this ex- periment of Modi has proven to be a great suc- cess. Earlier, media management used to be a problem when our rep- resentatives went abroad, but this time, media control was su- perb. There is perfect tuning and coordination the planning for the visit was impeccable. And I would say that Modi is lucky to have this team. How do you see S Jaishankar’s role in these recent foreign vis- its of PM Modi? First, he maintains a low profile. Secondly, he has good grasp over the nuances of foreign relations. Thirdly, he en- joys complete faith and trust of PM Modi. His coordination with Ajit Doval is seamless and this is vital for security. The arrangements dur- ing this visit were close- ly handled by him. If I have to rate him, I would say he is category one Foreign Minister of In- dia. He is outstanding. What was the controversy around former President Oba- ma during this visit? It was unfortunate. What was the need for Obama to come out with such a statement? But he did and said that Modi government has failed to protect the rights of Muslim minorities in In- dia. Obama should have considered the repercus- sions of such controver- sial remarks. Modi has millions of followers in India and abroad. Peo- ple admire him to the point of fanaticism and there must be at least 10 to 12 crore men, women and children that fall in this category. Obama’s remarks hurt this huge number of people. The Government of India took cognizance of it and said that such a statement is irresponsi- ble and also the timing of these controversial remarks was questioned. Then Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman took on Obama and lashed out at him, stress- ing that his government bombed six Muslim ma- jority nations with 26,000 bombs. Thus, it was very clearly con- veyed that you have no moral authority to ques- tion Modi over the treat- ment of Muslims in In- dia. Although some people thought that the matter was blown out of proportions, but at the end of the day, Obama is history now. When Modi has Biden standing next to him and seeking his autograph, then Oba- ma’s remarks bear no consequence. In fact, people even said that smart diplomacy also requires listening and not paying heed. So, it was Obama’s viewpoint and he had it back from Modi’s team. What is your assessment of the visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Egypt? Modi’s state visit to Egypt was superb and it was also the first bilat- eral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 26 years. Modi has always worked towards staying close and connected with nations that have enjoyed deep-rooted cultural ties with India since the ancient times. Egypt extended a spe- cial invite to Modi and we did read in school how Egyptian civiliza- tion and our Indus val- ley civilization are of the same time- period. Egypt is a growing na- tion and Modi was look- ing forward to this visit. Egyptian President El- Sisi was invited as the ‘State Guest’ of India for India’s 74th Repub- lic Day and this was ex- tremely symbolic. Thereafter, our Defence Minister and Foreign Minister also visited Cairo. Agreements have been signed regarding agriculture, archaeolo- gy and it is indeed a matter of pride that Egypt honoured PM Modi with its highest civilian honour. Well, Modi showed a very heart warming gesture by visiting the 1,000 year old Al-Hakim Mosque in Cairo, which was also recently re- stored with the help of India’s Bohra’s commu- nity. The BJP is also in- tensely reaching out to the Bohra and Pasman- da Muslim communities in India. So, of course, there was a connect and it was a successful visit. Impressed by Ameri- can technology, can he use any new technology in his party’s election campaign in the com- ing days? After all, how did America agree to share its technology with India? See, answering your second question, every- one salutes the rising sun. Narendra Modi to- day, it seems, has been given the power of an ‘Attorney’by Biden and Modi can get anything done from the USA. But the point is that there are mutual interests. They must have thought that this move will help them, so they did it. It is a moment of pride for India. Regarding your first question, Narendra Modi’s electoral idea- tion is excellent. The manner in which he has used digital media for campaigning and even for nation building is in front of everyone. I have heard that Infor- mation Broadcasting Ministry has taken out a tender related to Artifi- cial Intelligence and when it goes through, new companies would come and work on it. Meanwhile, BJP, at the party level, is using AI in such a way that sen- ior leaders won’t even know what hit them! Such would be the at- tacks that the Opposi- tion leaders won’t know how to defend them- selves. Thus, these leaders would be en- grossed in combating these attacks while the old cases of ED and CBI would continue, and keep them busy. Above all, there is the ever- present, omnipotent narrative of Modi’s In- dia being a ‘Vishwa Guru’ and a powerful nation, and this has no match. We must all re- member that the next general elections would be contested on the dig- ital platform, in a way. What is the message of this visit to the inter- national community? The message is that Modi has become a ‘Global leader.’ This message has two as- pects – one is for ‘friendly’ nations, and the other for ‘not so friendly’ nations. For Pakistan and China, it means that they should fear Modi and not try to cross threshold limits with India. It is not the India of 1962, it is the India of 2023. This is Narendra Modi’s India that will strike back and America will be on In- dia’s side. This USA visit is an important milestone. On the other hand, other nations of the world are looking towards India and seeking friendship with Modi for better trade and economic relations. They would get invest- ment opportunities, as other nations have reached a point of satura- tion and India is still con- sidered a ‘virgin econo- my.’ Therefore, the mes- sage is that the entire world wants to be friends with Modi’s India so that it is a ‘Win-Win’ situa- tion for all. It was believed that India’s traditional for- eign policy towards Chi- na had reached it’s tip- ping point. Will this Modi-Biden bonhomie be successful in stop- ping China’s expansion- ism in South Asia? Both of these things are correct. Firstly, you spoke about foreign policy. Modi has re- defined and re-drafted the country’s foreign policy. How is that? To- day our policies are based around what is beneficial to us as a na- tion. Let’s take the ex- ample of India’s eco- nomic benefit. If it is to our advantage to pur- chase crude oil from Russia, then we will do so. We will not worry about what USA or Eu- rope will say about Ukraine. Earlier, we used to worry a lot about offending the USA. But it is no long- er the case. India’s in- terests come first. The United States too has given up its staunch stand and said that it is our personal choice. This has happened for the first time and credit goes to Modi for In- dia’s strong, firm and at the same time, warm positioning in matters of foreign policy, be it with any nation in the world. Secondly, you asked about China. China is a problem for India and the US as well and now, both the countries have come to- gether. Of course, this does not imply that they will be aggressive with China, but this means that they will not come under pressure. See, sometime when two powerful entities en- gage with each other, two enemies may also become close friends. Therefore, India has been at the advantage that China’s expansion- ism in South China Sea or in Arunachal, has sustained a shock as a moral influence has come to India’s side to stop this expansionism. Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India; CMD, First India News lays bare the benefit to India of Modi’s six-day US and Egypt visit, how Foreign Minister S Jaishankar played a pivotal role in making the trip a success, how Modi’s core team, which includes NSA Ajit Doval, is the best there can be and how this visit has given India the momentum to curtail Chinese expansionism. Our parents, teachers and spiritual Gurus, due to whom we are alive and able to give meaning to life. Dr JagDeesh ChanDra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India zHow do you view Prime Minister Modi’s 6-day visit to America and Egypt? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Historic! The visit has been a ‘game changer’ in all aspects. Modi is now a global spiritual leader with a stupen- dous 76 % popularity graph across the globe. On the domestic front, Modi has again emerged as the most powerful and decisive Prime Minister of the country, who enjoys the trust and confidence of 140 crore people of this nation. We feel proud to have such a person as the Prime Minister of the nation. zWhat would you like to say about the manner in which Modi set a new narrative for the 2023 and 2024 elections in Bhopal and attacked the Opposition leaders as soon as he returned from the US trip? Wonderful. There is no match of Narendra Modi when it comes to setting the narrative. Along with Uniform Civil Code, he set his agenda to work on cor- ruption and he drove home the point that those who met in Patna for a ‘photo session’ in the name of Opposition uni- ty, are all corrupt politi- cians. He said that every Opposition leader in the picture has indulged in at least “Rs 20 lakh crore corruption.” He guaran- teed Rs 1.25 crore in Stalin’s name, 70,000 crore in NCP’s name, 25,000 crore in TMC’s name and several others. So, this clearly indicates that while on the one hand, the narrative of Uniform Civil Code would be set, the other narrative would be of major action taken in cases of corruption against Opposition lead- ers. So once again, Modi’s super-hit narra- tive has been set. zHow did the interna- tional media respond to Modi’s very successful visit? Do you feel that economy has taken the front seat considering the defence and trade agreements signed during the US and Egypt visit? Of course. This has been happening for the past few years. What has changed in Naren- dra Modi’s nine years of leadership is that pow- erful nations that once cold shouldered India, today look at India as a ‘Linchpin.’ Nations want to invest in India. So, Modi has set the economic agenda, whom to purchase weapons from and who to sell them to, from whom to purchase crude oil, whom to in- vite and to encourage to invest in India! Modi has made India a bold nation through strong d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g . Modi’s multi-aligned foreign policy has ena- bled India to build eco- nomic relations, not just diplomatic relations. I would say that today economy and financial matters are deciding the fate of the country in foreign matters. zThe manner in which the US Parliament and the Indian community welcomed Modi has been unprecedented. Why this craze for Modi in New York and Wash- ington? Craze is still a smaller word. This was mad- ness. Those who wit- nessed it, were baffled. Public representatives in American Congress were standing in line for autographs and selfies with Modi. The Presi- dent and the First Lady organised a stunning ‘Vegetarian’ State Din- ner for him. Biden and the First Lady held Modi’s hands as they ushered him into the White House. He ad- dressed the Congress for 58 minutes and he was given 15 standing ovations and every few minutes the Congress would start clapping for him. People were in dis- belief of what was being streamed from the American Senate on their television screens. It seemed as if Modi was contesting elections from America and was there to address a rally. Such was the madness! When he stepped out, he met people of Indian origin and women wept in joy to see him, much as if they had seen Lord Krishna in all His glory. Well, the fact is that PM Modi was given the honour of being ‘State Guest’ for the first time in the US even though he has been there seven times in the past. The body language of both the leaders was such that it never appeared that the Prime Minister and President of two nations were meeting, rather it appeared as if two friends were meeting. So this was remarkable and quite unbelievable. This tour has taken Modi’s popularity to another level altogether. Call it popularity or craze, words are no longer enough to describe what has just happened in the past few days. zFriends living in America said that for the first time, they felt proud to be an Indian there. What transpired that this scenario changed after all? It seems that some ‘Daivik’ power moves about with Narendra Modi. What we have seen, cannot come to pass with an ordinary human being. Truth be told, be it USA or UK, historically Indians have been treated as second grade citizens. Indian passport held no or little significance. Today they saw that American President is taking autograph of our Prime Minister and peo- ple are clicking selfies with him. Australian PM is terming Modi as the ‘Boss’ and some PM is touching Modi’s feet. This is wonderful. This is the capability and popu- larity of Modi’s leader- ship. Biden is raising ‘no alcohol’toast and saying that Modi and US are to- gether. They felt that not just the Indian Embassy, but even the people living there are Indian Ambas- sadors. So, you feel proud about it. Modi’s aura and persona that came to fore in the US, has filled Indi- ans with pride. zDoes a popular Indi- an Prime Minister like Narendra Modi influ- ence the politics of votes in America as well? He does. Modi is a genius. About 54 lakh Indians live in America and obviously they would vote for some- one. Earlier, Trump too used to do all this and the politicians realise the fact that a great number of Indians re- side in the US. It would not be wrong to say that about 97 percent of those Indians would be alert to the signalling by Modi or would know who to vote for given that the US is tilting to- wards India. So Modiji, while seated in Delhi, is able to affect the poli- tics in US. zHow do you rate Modi as a Communica- tor? Wonderful! His one- to-one connect at the grassroots has no match. We saw in America that everyone wanted to shake hands with Modi and our PM obliged. You saw how he con- nected with everyone through ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ People who were never on forefront, he brought them forward. You saw how he changed the dy- namics of Padma Awards. Nowadays, he has found one more way to communicate. He ex- plains everything to people like a teacher does. He uses hand ges- tures to effectively con- vey the message in a few sentences and as a re- sult, other orators fail while Modi has a terrific mass appeal. Modi is a great communicator and those who must be writ- ing his speeches or giv- ing him inputs, must be elated to have someone like Modi to present their inputs, after value addition, and in such a charismatic fashion. zIt is an emotional question, Modi of 30 years back in America and Modi of today. What is the difference? There is an immense difference. Really, it is an emotional question. I feel that Modi’s erst- while equation with America would have crossed his mind. His mother, if she were alive, would have been happy to see her son, who was once denied US visa, has earned such love and respect in the US today. Modi might have felt bad then and it is only human to feel so. And today it is the same Modi, the son of Gujarat, for whom Americans are doing everything that they can. These were won- derful moments. Modi himself said that 30 years back when he had visited America, he stood outside the White House. People usually stand outside the White House and get their pic- tures clicked and he too might have done that. But today, he is domi- nating the same White House. Our journalists who went with Modi from India, must have returned extremely im- pressed with his status. So, definitely this was an emotional moment of Modi’s life. zAfter achieving 76% global popularity, what is on Modi’s mind now? I have said this earlier too that he is a ‘Fakir.’ He has evolved into a Spiritual Guru and now people say he is going to become ‘Vishwa Guru’. His heart is such that if one day he remembers the mountains of Himachal, he would pick up his ‘jhola’ and head to the mountains, leaving everything be- hind. He would become father of the nation, whether formally or in- formally. So he is like an ascetic and when he feels like, he will do so. But one thing is sure, he has said that he will continue to serve the na- tion till his last breath. Besides, people close to him say that only the Nobel Prize is left for him. Although Modiji is in no need of awards, people still feel that he should get one. As far as Modi is concerned, he has become a spiritual leader and is on the path to becoming ‘Vishwa Mitra’ and ‘Vishwa Guru.’ He is extremely strong emotionally and spiritually and sudden- ly, one fine day, if he takes such a decision, then it should not come as a surprise. However, I do not see such a thing happening for the next five-six years. zHow do you see the manner in which Pakistan has been warned in the US-Indo joint statement? It can be counted as a major success of Naren- dra Modi’s diplomacy as a very strong joint statement was issued. Every time it was said that their land should not be used for anti-In- dia activities. But this time around, the matter was extremely serious. America has not forgot- ten the 9/11 attack and India has not forgotten 26/11. Both the nations are scarred and the wounds inflicted by ter- rorists continue to hurt. This brings both nations on the same platform, ideologically, when it comes to countering terrorism. And it has happened for the first time in Modi’s leader- ship that Kashmir issue has practically become non-existent. Other- wise, that issue used to come up every time a PM would visit USA. Pakistan’s economy is in a shambles. Foreign Minister has clearly said that trade during the day and terror by night will not work. In- dia’s foreign policy is extremely strong and whenever the opportu- nity presents itself, In- dia will take its step against Pakistan with- out worrying about in- ternational pressure. For example, Article 370 was abrogated and prior to this, everyone said there will be inter- national pressure, but see, did anything hap- pen? Such is the situa- tion that G20 team went to Srinagar for meeting and everyone was sur- prised that the valley is peaceful. So, Modi has gone beyond the im- pression and controver- sies of international propaganda. TO BE CONTINUED… Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat24-Vision of New India and First India; CMD, First India News, reveals the details of Modi’s successful visit to the USA and how that all-powerful nation, appears subdued by the charismatic aura and charm of the leader of the biggest democracy in the world. Jai Bholenath! The month of Shravan or Sawan is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar and holds a special place in the heart of all Hindus. Sawan Purnima, the full moon day during Shravan month, aligns with the birth star of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu's Shravan nakshatra. Shravan maas marks the beginning of the southwest monsoon in the Indian subcontinent. The entire month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati. During the Samudra manthan when Devas and Asuras churned the ocean for Amrit, the poison also emerged. To save the world, Lord Shiva consumed the poi- son and Ma Parvati held the throat to prevent the poison going down further and thus Neelkantha. With rain, as the blissful life-giv- ing water flows from the heavens, Mother Earth renews herself, let us all renew our commit- ment to faith, godliness, truth, compassion and humanity also.
