1. New Delhi (ANI): Laud-
ing Punjab Chief Minis-
ter Bhagwant Mann’s
announcement of roll-
ing out a doorstep ration
delivery scheme in the
state, Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) convenor and CM
Arvind Kejriwal took a
swipe at Centre for not
allowing him to imple-
ment the same in Delhi.
Addressing the me-
dia, Kejriwal said,
“There’s a saying, ‘you
can’t stop the idea
whose time has come;’
they (Centre) didn’t al-
low us to implement it
in Delhi, no problem,
we’ll do it in Punjab and
country will demand it.
It’ll get implemented in
the country, like mohal-
la clinics.” Punjab CM
on Monday rolled out a
doorstep ration deliv-
ery scheme in the state.
He said that the scheme
is an optional one, and
the ration-card holders
can opt-out of it.
Mentioning how the
BJP-led Centre did not
let him do the same for
Delhi, Kejriwal said,
“Today, Punjab Chief
Minister Bhagwant
Mann has announced
doorstep delivery of ra-
tion... it’ll be imple-
mented soon. We’ve
been struggling to im-
plement it in Delhi for
the last four years; we
planned out everything
but the Centre’s BJP
government stopped it.”
In November last
year,theSupremeCourt
had declined to inter-
fere with the Delhi High
Court interim order
which had cleared the
way for the Delhi gov-
ernment’s doorstep de-
livery of ration scheme.
Delhi government
had told the apex court
that nowadays every-
thing is being delivered
home, including cooked
food and liquor, and
there is nothing wrong
with the delivery of
food grains at the doors
of poor people under
the Public Distribution
System.

Patna: Pragatisheel Sa-

Shivpal Yadav is once
again angry with his
nephew Akhilesh Yadav.
He is upset that he was
not invited to the meet-
ing of the legislature
party of the Samajwadi
Party
. Technically he is
an MLA of SP, so he
should have been called
for the meeting. But
since he has not merged
his party with the SP
and the SP had given
him a seat in coordina-
tion with his party,
therefore the SP is look-
ing at him like a leader
of any other ally party
.
That is why it was said
by the SP that on March
28, the ally parties will
meet, in which the par-
ties of Jayant Chaud-
hary
,ShivpalYadav,Om-
prakashRajbhar,Sanjay
Chauhan and Krishna
Patel will be called.
Technically both are
correct in their place.
But politics is not a tech-
nical thing. So it is not
beyond reasoning why
Shivpal Yadav was not
called. Before the elec-
tion,therewasharmony
between the uncle and
nephew duo. On top of
that, this time around
SP has got so many seats
in the elections that
there is no challenge to
Akhilesh’s leadership.
Now Shivpal is also
ready to work together
to secure the future of
his children. Despite
this, the question re-
mains if Akhilesh still
considers Shivpal a
threat? It is being said
that earlier he was to be

But later he resigned

decided to remain an

Punjab assembly elec-
tions, when Arvind Ke-
jriwal was asked in an
interview as to from
where he would give one
thousand rupees and
free electricity to every
adult woman, he had
laid bare the details of
his ‘plan’, wherein he
stressed that although
commission runs up to
40 percent in tenders in
Punjab, but if 20 per-
cent average commis-
sion is considered, then
20 percent of the budget
of one lakh 70 thousand
crores will save 34 thou-
sand crore rupees and
by stopping sand smug-
gling, the government
will save another 20
thousand crores. He fur-
ther said, “this will con-
tribute to an amount of
54 thousand crores,
while giving one thou-
sand each to every adult
woman will cost 10
thousand crores and
electricity will be two
and a half thousand
crores i.e. 12 and a half
thousand crores, while I
will have 54 thousand
croresextraeveryyear.”
Similarly, Bhagwant
Mann said that in Pun-
jab, tenders are given to
leaders and politicians
are involved in sand
work. Similarly, trans-
port is another section
which is with the lead-
ers, just like the liquor
trade, so the govern-
ment will take all these
works in its own hands
and the revenue will be
transferred in govern-
ment account. Hence,
the government will not
be short of money. But
as soon as the govern-
ment was formed, Bhag-
want Mann reached
Delhi to demand one
lakh crore rupees from
the Prime Minister. He
has said that the condi-
tion of Punjab is very
bad and there is a debt
of three lakh crore ru-
pees, so for the next two
years, the central gov-
ernment should give 50
thousand crore rupees
each year. Keep in mind
that Kejriwal had earli-
er said that there is a
debt of three lakh
crores but his govern-
ment will also free Pun-
jab from debt. However,
it seems that from now
on, preparations have
started to put the blame
on the centre.

The SSLC examina-

southern state close on
the heels of a massive
controversy over a ban
on hijab (headscarf) on
educational premises.
The high court has up-
held the ban that has
now been challenged in
the Supreme Court.
Monday’s incident
happened at Shanti Ni-
ketan PU College exam
centre on the first day of
the SSLC exams con-
ductedbytheKarnataka
board. As many as 8.73
lakh students are ap-
pearing for the exams.
After several rounds
of protests across the
state, the government
clamped prohibitory or-
ders in and around ex-
amination centres
across the state to en-
sure the smooth con-
duct of exams and made
uniform compulsory
for examinees.
The decision, an-
nounced by Karnataka
primary and secondary
education minister BC

line with the high
court’s verdict against
students wearing reli-
gious attire to class-
rooms. The circular
said students coming to

out uniform would not
be allowed inside the
exam hall.
MUSLIM LAW BOARD MOVES SC
AGAINST KARNATAKA HC VERDICT
New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board
(AIMPLB) has moved the Supreme Court challenging the
Karnataka High Court judgment, which upheld the ban
on hijab in classrooms
after holding that the
wearing of head-
scarves by Muslim
women was not an es-
sential religious prac-
tice. The board has
moved the top court
along with two other
petitioners namely,
Munisa Bushra and
Jaleesa Sultana Yaseen. The plea said the high court
judgment, while dismissing the petitions, has proceeded
with erroneous reasons to address the issue.
KARNATAKA SSLC EXAMS: HIJAB
CLAD INVIGILATOR SUSPENDED
Bengaluru: First day of the SSLC (Class 10) exams was
conducted peacefully across Karnataka amid hijab row.
Most of the students gave their exams in uniform and
only a few abstained and some were sent back for wear-
ing hijab. The Department of Education has suspended
an invigilator for refusing to take off hijab while conduct-
ing the examination at KSTV High School. Noor Fathima,
who was on exam duty, came clad in a hijab. When
she was asked to remove it, she refused and was later
sent back from the examination centre and suspended,
sources in the education department said.
Unconstitutional: Opposition slams
New Criminal Identification Bill
New Delhi (PTI): Amid
strong objections from
opposition parties, the
Centre on Monday in-
troduced a Bill that
would authorise the re-
cording of biometric
data and other measure-
ments of convicts and
other persons for the
purposes of identifica-
tion and investigation
in criminal matters,
and to preserve records.
The Bill, titled ‘The
Criminal Procedure
(Identification) Bill,
2022’, was introduced in
Lok Sabha by junior
Home Minister Ajay
Mishra Teni. If passed,
it will replace the 1920’s
Act ‘The Identification
of Prisoners Act’.
The Centre defended
the proposed law say-
ing, “The term ‘meas-
urements’ used in the
1920 Act is limited to
allow for the taking of
finger impressions and
foot-print impressions
of a limited category of
convicted and non-con-
victed persons and pho-
tographs on the order
of a Magistrate. New
‘’measurement’’ tech-
niques being used in
advanced countries are
giving credible and reli-
able results and are rec-
ognised the world over.
The 1920 Act does not
provide for taking these
body measurements as
many of the techniques
and technologies had
not been developed at
that point in time.”
Opposition parties
including Congress
and Trinamool opposed
the Bill calling it a “di-
rect violation of the
Fundamental Right of
an individual”.
Congress MP Manish
Tewari said “The words
‘biological samples and
theiranalysis’intheBill
could extend to narco
analysis and brain map-
pingandwhenitismade
coercive, it is clearly vio-
lative of Article 20 (3) of
the Constitution”.
Underlining the pro-
vision in the Bill for re-
taining the ‘measure-
ments’ for 75 years from
the date of collection,
Tewari said, “This is in
violation of the Right to
be Forgotten enshrined
in the Right to Life un-
der Article 21 of the
Constitution”.

I-T notice to ex-PM Devegowda's wife

Department notice to
former Prime Minister

this is nothing but po-

“I-T notice has been
issued to the wife of for-
mer PM seeking all de-
tails pertaining to the
property
. Has my moth-
er and father amassed
wealth of crores of ru-
pees? I have also grown
potatoes earlier. Now I
have grown sugarcane.
They have issued notice
and we will reply to
that,” Revanna said.
“Look at the vendetta
politics by the ruling
BJP. Regional Trans-
port Officers (RTO)
have amassed hundreds
of crores. Who will is-
sue notice to them? How
much wealth they have
amassed till date?” he
questioned.
“They are issuing no-
tices after witch hunt-

will give befitting re-

T
THE DAY PAKISTAN BETRAYED
BALOCH BALOCHISTAN
or centuries the land of the
Balochpeoplehasbeenknown
as Balochistan. The first Ba-
lochConfederacywasfounded
in the 12th century
, named
Kalat. From the date of its for-
mation till March 27 1948, it
remained and enjoyed the sta-
tusof anindependentcountry
.
Historically, the Greater
Balochistan region was re-
motely located far away from
the Kingdom of Persia in the
west and equally at a dis-
tance from Indian princely
states in the east. At present,
the Kalat, known as Balo-
chistan, a part of Greater
Balochistan, is now disputed
territory, illegally annexed
by Pakistan, lies between the
Sindh province of Pakistan
and the western internation-
al border of Iran.
In Delhi on August 4, 1947,
a meeting was held between
Sir Sultan Ahmad as repre-
sentative of Kalat and Mo-
hammad Ali Jinnah and Lia-
quat Ali Khan as representa-
tive of Pakistan interim gov-
ernment under the supervi-
sion of Viceroy Lord Moun-
baitan representing the
crown of the British king-
dom. A formal standstill
agreement was signed. It was
agreed upon that Kalat state
would be recognised as an in-
dependent country from Au-
gust 5, 1947, the same status it
enjoyed for many centuries.
The formal standstill agree-
ment between Kalat and the
future state of Pakistan on
occasion reads —That Paki-
stan recognised Kalat as an
independent country. That
legal opinion will be obtained
that whether the Pakistan
government is legally bound
to follow the agreements and
treaties signed between Kalat
and the British Government.
A further meeting will be
held after obtaining the legal
opinion between the repre-
sentatives of Kalat and Paki-
stan. Meantime a standstill
agreement will be made be-
tween Kalat and Pakistan.
The discussion will take
place between Pakistan and
Kalat to reach a decision on
defence, external affairs and
communication. Separately
Britishers will inform the
other rulers of the Baloch re-
gion- Sardars of Kharan and
Lasbela that control of their
region had been shifted to
Kalat under the rule of Khan.
Sinceitsemergencein1947,
Pakistan has been infamous
for not keeping its promises
to the world’s countries. Paki-
stan’s foreign policy is known
for betrayals, taking u-turns
from agreed-upon treaties,
and disowning amicably
agreed agreements. Despite
the Standstill Agreement, on
March 27, 1948, the Pakistan
establishment betrayed the
Baloch people and Pakistan’s
army under GOC Maj. Gen.
Mohammad Akbar Khan in-
vadedtheKalat.Inresistance,
thousands of Baloch were
killed. Pakistan army sized
Kalat and took its ruler to Ka-
rachi and forced him to sign
the instrument of accession.
Jinnah accepted the Instru-
ment of Accession on March
30, 1948. The independent life
of the State of Kalat finally
came up to an end.
Since March 27, 1948, Ba-
loch people and Balochistan
have been facing Pakistan
establishment’s and its lead-
ers’ oppressions and suppres-
sions over them. Pakistan
not only illegally occupied
Kalat state and other parts of
Balochistan but also treated
them as second class citizens.
Today Baloch people are fac-
ing traumatic conditions in
their own land and fighting
for the existence of its iden-
tity and its land, the exist-
ence which Pakistan wants
to eradicate. All these years,
the Baloch are struggling for
life and reclaiming their
homeland, i.e. Balochistan.
In the last seven decades,
the suffering of the Baloch
people has been due to pain,
atrocity
, and oppressions that
Pakistan has given them to
suppress their voices. A voice
that wants to save its culture,
people, and homeland from
Pakistan, its army, and its
leadership, which is trying to
gain control over their his-
torically and traditionally
rich but one of the best piec-
es of land on earth with hefty
of natural resources.
Till now, thousands of Ba-
loch, its political leaders,
children and woman have
been either killed or facing
brutal treatment in jails by
this repression of Pakistan.
Furthermore, there are
countless missing, for whom
there is no signal of them be-
ing dead or alive after they
were whisked up by the army
,
police and agencies of Paki-
stan. It is difficult to find a
Baloch family in Balochistan
which is not affected or in
deep pain by the inhumane
treatment of the autocratic
Pakistan government.
Today
, 74 years long, this il-
legal annexation has consoli-
datedtheBalochpeopleandits
struggle on an ideological and
political base. The black day

tivists. Protest will be held on
this day across the globe.

INDIAN ARMY SNIPERS GET
SAKO TRG-42 RIFLES
The Navy will commission on Tuesday
its second long-range maritime
reconnaissance air squadron com-
prising a fleet of P-8I aircraft to add
muscle to its surveillance power. The
air squadron 316 will be commis-
sioned at the INS Hansa, a naval air
station near Dabolim in Goa, in the
presence of Chief of Naval Staff R
Hari Kumar, officials said on Monday.
The INAS 316 will operate the Boeing
P-8I multi-role long-range maritime
reconnaissance and anti-submarine
warfare aircraft, they said.
The Indian Army has inducted the
Sako .338 TRG-42 sniper rifles from
Finland for soldiers deployed along
the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu
and Kashmir, officials said. “The latest
sniper rifles have been inducted into
the Army. They are using it now,” a
senior said. The Sako .338 TRG-42
sniper rifles have a better range,
firepower, and telescopic sights, the
official said. The move is to make the
snipers more lethal amid a change in
operational dynamics along the LoC,
the official said.

New Delhi: Aam Aad-
mi Party supremo and
Delhi Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal nev-
er does two things,
while opposing the BJP.
Firstly, he does not tar-
get Narendra Modi per-
sonally and does not
engage in any work or
make statements
against Hindu inter-
ests. On the contrary
, he
keeps on trying to prove
that the AAP is a more
patriotic party than the
BJP. He adopted this
strategy after the les-
sons learned in the 2014
Lok Sabha elections.
And perhaps for the
first time in the last
eight years, Kejriwal’s
strategy has gone
wrong. The statement
he made in the Delhi
Assembly regarding the
film ‘The Kashmir
Files’ — movie made on
the displacement and
torture of Kashmiri
Pandits, has backfired.
Due to this, his image
among Hindus has been
shaken.
Keep in mind that
apart from politics, this
film is disturbing the
Hindus. People were
aware about the dis-
placement of Kashmiri
Pandits and the Kash-
mir problem, but the
way that reality is pre-
sented in the film is dis-
turbing the community
.
That is the purpose of
the film as well. There-
fore, whoever is linking
this film with politics,
they are making a huge
mistake. For Hindus, it
is not a matter of poli-
tics. It has become an
issue of caste, religion
and national identity.
There is talk of Hindu
identity in the move as
well as patriotism. So,
Kejriwal should have
avoided commenting on
this. He not only com-
mented, but also made
fun of the film and
laughed in the assembly
after mocking it. This is
his first major mistake
in the last eight years.
However, like PM Modi,
he also rectifies his mis-
takes quickly, so let’s
wait to see what step he
takes in this matter.

SC gives four weeks to Centre on
plea for identification of minorities
New Delhi (PTI): The
Supreme Court on Mon-
day granted four weeks
to the Centre to respond
to a plea, which has
sought directions for
framing of guidelines
for identification of mi-
norities at the state
level, contending that
Hindus are in minority
in 10 States.
A bench of justices
SK Kaul and MM Sun-
dresh posted the matter
for hearing on May 10
and asked the Union of
India to place its stand
on record on a plea filed
by advocate Ashwini
Kumar Upadhyay. At
the outset, Solicitor
General Tushar Mehta
sought two weeks time,
saying that he had not
gone through the affida-
vit filed by the Ministry
of Minority Affairs.
The Ministry in the af-
fidavit has told the top
court that state govern-
ments can declare any
religious or linguistic
community, including
Hindus, as minority
within the said state.
Responding to the so-
licitor general’s sub-
mission, the bench said,
“The reply appears to
be seen in the newspa-
pers.” To this, Mehta
said,” In some of the

‘Reserve Bank to maintain
status quo at April meet’
Mumbai (PTI): Height-
ened geopolitical uncer-
tainties will lead the
Reserve Bank’s rate-
setting panel to opt for a
status quo at the next
week’s meeting, Axis
Bank’s chief economist
Saugata Bhattacharya
said on Monday
.
Bhattacharya said he
had earlier expected a
tightening action at the
policy meet scheduled
for April 6-8 but the in-
creased uncertainties
on the geopolitical front
due to the Russian inva-
sion of Ukraine and its
impact on commodity
prices makes him now
think that RBI will de-
fer such an action.
He said the central
bank’s Monetary Policy
Committee (MPC) may
hike rates in the second
half of FY23 by up to
0.50%.
Bhattacharya said
the recent events have
led to “some weakening
of growth and harden-
ing of inflation”, and
the RBI’s estimates on
both for the new fiscal
will be very keenly
looked at by analysts.
Making it clear that
we are not staring at a
stagflation, the econo-
mist estimated real
GDP growth to fall to
7.8% in FY23 down from
a projection of 8.9% in
FY22 while the consum-
er price inflation is esti-
mated to rise to 5.8%
from 5.4%.
He also noted that
there are downside
risks to growth and up-
side risks to inflation,
and expected RBI to
also increase its FY23
average inflation esti-
mate sharply to up to
5.2% from the 4.5%
spelled out at the last
policy review in Febru-
ary this year.
It can be noted that
RBI has been on a pro-
longed pause in interest
rates and decided
against a widely expect-
ed rate hike at the last
policy review to sup-
port growth. Headline
inflation at 6.07% for
February has breached
the upper end of the
band set for the central
bank.
Bhattacharya said
RBI will be interested
in looking at whether
inflation gets en-
trenched in the econo-
my and its impact on
the demand process be-
fore deciding on the
rates scenario.
Amid the rise in oil
prices, Bhattacharya
said he expects the aver-
age crude prices for
FY23 to go up to $105 per
barrel as against the
$79.6 per barrel in FY22.
He said that every ru-
pee of cut in excise duty
will hurt the Centre’s
finances by `15,000
crore.

Lucknow: The presi-

Vikassheel Insaan Par-

mar government, had
to pay price of his defi-
ance with the BJP dur-
ing the UP Assembly.
On the demand of BJP,
Nitish Kumar has fi-
nally sacked Sahani
from the cabinet.
Despite the diktat
from the BJP to stay
away from UP poll Sa-
hani had fielded 56 VIP
candidates against the
BJP and its ally, the Ni-
shad Party headed by
Dr Sanjay Nishad in
several parts of eastern
UP. Though unsuccess-
ful, the move was aimed
at disturbing and split-
ting the Nishad commu-
nity vote in Purvan-
chal. Now, the price has
to be paid.
During the course of
the UP elections Saha-
ni, addressing rallies in
Purvanchal, had called
upon the people to en-
sure the defeat of the
BJP. Commenting on
his move to contest in
UP Sahani said the VIP
was an independent po-
litical party and had all
the rights to expand the
organization in Bihar
or outside the state.
In UP he tried to
counter Dr Sanjay Ni-
shad of Nishad Party
who has now become a
cabinet minister in the
Yogi government. Like
VIP in Bihar, UP’s Ni-
shad Party has mobi-
lized the Mallah-fisher-
men community for its
political gains.
Thus, the simmering
discontent between BJP
and VIP finally spilled
over. Sahani has been
dumped. During the Bi-
har election the BJP
had given 12 seats to the
VIP party and it suc-
ceeded in winning four
of them including that
of Mukesh Sahani.

50 criminals have given
themselves up to police
in two weeks after the
BJP returned to power
in Uttar Pradesh, an of-
ficial said Monday
.
Reports from various
parts of the state also
suggest several illegal
encroachments have
been removed with bull-
dozers which many con-
sider now a new em-
blem of the Yogi Adi-
tynath government.
Visuals of many ab-
sconding criminals
walking to police sta-
tions with placards
hanging around their
necks with messages
like I am surrendering,
don’t shoot me, please! ,
surfacing on social me-
dia show the panic
among history-
sheeters, officials said.
Bulldozers, symbol-
izing tough action
against the criminals
and mafias, had reso-
nated throughout the
UP elections earning
Adityanath the sobri-
quet of “Bulldozer
Baba”.

VP stresses the need of improving healthcare in remote areas
First India Bureau
New Delhi: Vice Presi-
dent M Venkaiah Naidu
on Monday emphasised
the need to rebuild, re-
structure and reinvent
our healthcare systems
for the post-pandemic
era of the 21st century
.
Hewantedallstakehold-
ers—public, private and
people to join together
in this humongous task
of strengthening India’s
health infrastructure
and ensuring the well-
being of the people.
Addressing the 8th
Annual Summit of the
NATHEALTH through a
pre-recorded video mes-
sage, the Vice President
said that over the course
of the pandemic, we
have learnt many valua-
ble lessons related to the
challengesinourhealth-
care system and called
forusingthisexperience
towards re-imagining a
resilient healthcare sys-
tem for a new phase in
the post-COVID era.
Recognising that the
COVID-19 pandemic has
challenged the health-
care systems world over,
Naidu said that India, as
a team, fought back ad-
mirably and showed
great resilience in the
face of adversity
. “This
is reflected in the indig-
enous development of
vaccines and adminis-
tration of over 180 crore
doses, which is a stupen-
dous achievement and a
global benchmark,” he
added. Naidu also
praised the commit-
ment and sacrifices of
Indian healthcare work-
ers- both in the public
and private sectors.
Noting the pressing
need to increase public
expenditure in health,
the Vice President
wanted this increase in
spending to go hand-in-
hand with capacity
building, such as in-
creasing the doctor-to-
population ratio, as per
WHO standards.
Calling for urgently
bridging the spatial dis-
parity in healthcare fa-
cilities between the ur-
ban and rural areas,
Naidu stressed the need
for immediate impetus
to primary healthcare
in rural India. Talking
about the need to bring
down high out-of-pocket
expenditure on health
in India, he appreciated
various government
programs in this regard
including Ayushman
Bharat, Jan Aushadhi
Kendras and the pro-
posal to increase the
number of district hos-
pitals among others.
He also said that
COVID-19 pandemic has
shown the potential of
using digital technolo-
gies and suggested lev-
eraging our strengths in
ICT for improving
healthcare. “Digital
health and Telehealth
services must be ex-
panded to remote rural
areas to ensure equita-
ble access to quality
healthcare,” he said.
Naidu also called for
greater focus on curbing
the worrying trend of
increasingNon-Commu-
nicable Diseases in In-
dia, which account for
around 60 percent of
deaths in the country
.

‘98% of India’s population to be
covered with piped cooking gas’
New Delhi (PTI): More
than 82 per cent of In-
dia’s land area and 98
per cent of the popula-
tion will be covered
with piped cooking gas
after the latest round of
expansion work, the
government informed
the Rajya Sabha on
Monday
.
Bids for the expan-
sion work will be
opened on May 12 this
year.
Replying to supple-
mentary questions of
members during Ques-
tion Hour, Minister of
Petroleum and Natural
Gas Hardeep Singh
Puri said once the
award of bidding is
done, it typically takes
a certain number of
years for the infrastruc-
ture to be laid.
“After the 11th round
of bidding, we would
have over 82 per cent of
our land area and 98
percent of our popula-
tion complete so that
piped cooking gas can
be delivered to house-
holds,” he informed the
house.
“The only population
that will be left will be
some areas in the North
East and Jammu and
Kashmir because they
are widely dispersed.
Typically, cooking gas
that comes through the
pipe is cheaper and
more consumer friend-
ly than that supplied
through cylinders,” he
also said.
Puri said that during
the pandemic, benefi-
ciaries of the Ujjawala
scheme were given free
LPG cylinders.

He tweeted that he
wanted Shah to see the

the state is fighting
crime. The tit for tat was
over the alleged rape of
a 15-year-old girl by the
son of a Congress MLA.
Gehlot said in a state-

come here and get infor-
mation about the inno-
vations made in rela-
tion to law and order in

against criminal acts.”
Gehlot added, “Ac-
cording to the NCRB
(National Crime Re-
cords Bureau) data, de-
spite the lockdown in
2020, when crimes
across the country in-
creased by 28.03% as
compared to the previ-
ous year, Rajasthan saw
a decrease of 14.46%.
“According to the
data, there has been a
decrease in all types of
crimes, including da-
coity, robbery, kidnap-
ping, rape, rioting and
theft in the state in 2020.
During this period,
there was 62.29% in-
crease in crime in Amit
Shah’s home state Guja-
rat. In 2021 also, there
was a decrease of 4.77%
in criminal cases in Ra-
jasthan as compared to
2019,” he said.
Gehlot said, “Our
government showed the
courage to make regis-
tration of FIR manda-
tory. While implement-
ing the mandatory FIR
registration policy, we
knew that crime figures
would increase and the
opposition and the me-
dia would question it,

YOUR
DAY
Horoscope by
Saurabbh Sachdeva
ran and the
western coun-
tries are on the
brink of reviv-
ing the 2015 Nu-
clear Deal. The
nuclear talks
are going on in Vienna
and the diplomats indi-
cate that the next few
days will decide the
fate of the deal. What
would follow if the nu-
clear talks fail, will
Iran return to square
one on the US Sanc-
tions? This article
looks back to every im-
portant event that has
led up to this moment.
Iran, one of the world’s
biggest oil producers,
has been dealing with a
fall in share in the oil
market. The primary
reason behind this is
the sanctions imposed
by the Trump Adminis-
tration when the Unit-
ed States exited the Nu-
clear Deal in 2018. In
May 2018, US President
Donald Trump with-
drew from the deal, as
the US believed Iran to
violate the deal by se-
cretly developing a nu-
clear weapon, which
led to the imposition of
a series of economic
sanctions on Iran, con-
sequently hurting their
already crippling econ-
omy. World trade with
Iran declined drasti-
cally and the economy
fell into a deep reces-
sion. Its oil exports
plummeted, the cur-
rency’s value was re-
duced to half and the
inflation in the country
soared drastically. The
Iran Nuclear Deal also
known as the Joint
Comprehensive Plan of
Action (JCPOA) was an
agreement between
Iran and the five per-
manent members of
the UN and Germany
signed in 2015. Under
the deal, Iran had
agreed to dismantle
much of its nuclear
programme and allow
the International
Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA), the UN’s nu-
clear watchdog organi-
zation to inspect its
nuclear facilities, in
exchange for relief
from the billions of dol-
lars sanctions imposed
from 2012-2014. Saudi
Arabia and Israel, both
arch-rivals of Iran,
have been critical of
the 2015 Nuclear Deal.
Both countries have
called for a stronger
and long-lasting deal.
Israel sees Iran’s nu-
clear programme as a
threat to the State of
Israel and has been ac-
cused of cyber-attacks
and assassinations of
Iran’s top nuclear sci-
entists. When the US
withdrew from the
deal, they did not pro-
vide any evidence that
Iran was developing
nuclear weapons and
violated the deal. Iran
accused the US of uni-
laterally making deci-
sions without consid-
eration from other
member countries. Af-
ter exiting the deal in
2018 President Donald
Trump tightened the
sanctions on Iran in
2019 under his ‘maxi-
mum pressure’ policy
but Iran still main-
tained their insistence
to move forward with
their nuclear pro-
gramme by developing
centrifuges for high-
grade uranium at many
nuclear facilities. Due
to the sanctions Iran’s
production of oil bar-
rels reduced from 3.8
million to 2.3 million
per day. This caused a
sharp rise in interna-
tional oil prices to $80
per barrel. Simultane-
ously the U.S urged
Saudi Arabia to in-
crease its oil supply.
Iran experienced mas-
sive inflation from be-
ing 30.22 % to 34.62% in
2019. It also saw a 50 %
rise in its petrol prices
(15,000 Rials per litre),
and by comparison, the
currency lost half its
value. In fact, in 2018,
the Iranian Rial
touched a record low of
176,000 to one dollar.
Many indigenous busi-
nesses in Iran were
shut due to the increase
in production costs.
Presently, the Biden
Administration in the
USA is working with
the Iranian Govern-
ment and other mem-
ber countries for the
revival of the Nuclear
Deal. If the Nuclear
Deal is revived it will
lead to a major geopo-
litical and economical
shift in the Middle East
as many countries will
start rebuilding their
relations with Iran and
Iran will regain its role
in the oil market. If
not, the Iranian econo-
my will end up bearing
the brunt of the US
sanctions.
