Delhi Police nabs Moosewala murder accused
New Delhi (PTI): The
Delhi Police’s Special
Cell on Wednesday
nabbed gangster Deep-
ak Tinu, an accused in
Sidhu Moosewala’s
murder who escaped
from Punjab police cus-
tody on October 1, from
Alwar, officials said.
Special Commission-
er of Police (Special
Cell) HGS Dhaliwal
said Tinu kept chang-
ing his hideout after
fleeing from Mansa in
Punjab. The Delhi Po-
lice carried out exten-
sive operations in dif-
ferent places in the
country and finally suc-
ceeded in arresting
him. “Five grenades
and two automatic pis-
tols have been recov-
ered from his posses-
sion. He is being
brought to the national
capital and his police
custody remand will be
sought,” Dhaliwal said.
In 2017, too, Tinu had
escaped from Haryana
after throwing pepper
spray in the eyes of a
police officer.

.
According to the FIR,
based on what the vic-
tim told her brother,
there were four people
inside the car whom she
knew. After taking her
to an unknown place,
five men raped her.
When she was in an un-
conscious state, the
men tied her hands and
legs and wrapped her
inside a jute bag. There-
after, they took her in
the vehicle to another
location where they
dumped her.
DCW chief Swati
Maliwal claimed that
an iron rod was insert-
ed in the private parts
of the 36-year-old wom-
an. Ghaziabad police
said there was a prop-
erty dispute between
the woman and the ac-
cused. Four of the five
accused have been ar-
rested, police said.
Authorities at the
Guru Teg Bahadur Hos-
pital said the woman’s
condition is stable and
no internal injury has
been found yet. Sources
at the hospital, howev-
er, said there were signs
of sexual assault and a
“foreign object” was
found in her body
.
According to Nipun

NO FEAR OF LAW: NIRBHAYA’S MOTHER
BISHNOI GANG
Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi, who fought a long
legal battle to get the accused punished, said though
several years have passed, things have not changed
on the ground. “It is saddening that in the last 10
years, things have not changed. Several laws have
been enacted to protect women but they have not
translated into action on the ground,” Devi said. “The
perpetrators do not have any fear of law because
they know that they will find support
somewhere. Whenever they are
being tried, some person or the
other starts talking about their
human rights. But what about
the victim? Due to the trauma of
recalling the incident at various
stages of investigation and in
court hearings, she loses the
will power,” she said.
Sidhu Moosewala was
shot dead in Mansa district
on May 29. Goldy Brar, a
member of the Lawrence
Bishnoi gang, claimed re-
sponsibility for the murder.
Tinu is among 24 accused
charge-sheeted in the case.

“I want to become a

Reema Hassan, 15,

“When it comes to ad-

first problem is lan-

them speak only Pashto

the students. We also
teach them about Indian
cultures like Holi and
Diwali,” Anjam said.
“Before the pandem-
ic, there were around
16 teachers and more
than 600 students at-

But the coronavirus
outbreak severely im-
pacted our finances.
Now, there are six
teachers and around
300 students,” Anjam
said. But the students
need to study other im-

to have a career and for
that the school needs
support, he added.
“I reached out to the
Indian government and
appealed to them for

role of 82 Delhi Prison
Department officials in
the organised crime

.
The LG has also not-
ed that the Prison De-

the now jailed AAP

Satyendar Jain. Under
him, it was marred
with “several serious
controversies includ-
ing confiscation of mo-

jamming devices were
installed in and around
various jail premises
recently, the LG Office
sources said.
“Similarly, issues of
overcrowding, violent
clashes among inmates
and prisoners jumping

Rs 200 crore by Chan-

a source said.
Chandrashekhar was
lodged in jail number

time of the incident.
The EOW had in-
formed that during in-
vestigation in the case,
seven officers have al-
ready been arrested for
facilitating the extor-

run by the accused.
During investigation, it
also found the involve-

New Delhi: The Delhi
government has re-
minded the people of
the city that bursting
firecrackers is banned
this Diwali.
Addressing a press
conference here on
Wednesday, Delhi envi-
ronment minister Go-
pal Rai said, “Bursting
of firecrackers on Di-
wali in Delhi will at-
tract jail term up to six
months and a fine of Rs
200.”
Not only this, even
production, storage and
sale of firecrackers in
the capital will be pun-
ishable with a fine of up
to Rs 5,000 and three
years jail under Section
9B of the Explosives
Act, the minister said.
Rai further said a
public awareness cam-
paign -- Diye Jalao Pa-
takhe Nahi (light diyas,
not firecrackers) -- will
be launched on October
21. In September, the
city government re-im-
posed a complete ban on
the production, sale and
use of all types of fire-
crackers till January 1,
a practice it has been
following for the last
two years.
The government will
light 51,000 diyas at the
Central Park in Con-
naught Place on Friday
.
Rai said 408 teams
have been set up to im-
plement the ban.
“Pollution levels rise
around Diwali every
year. The major reason
is the bursting of fire-
crackers. Emissions
from firecrackers are
extremely dangerous
especially for kids,
women and the elderly
.
“Therefore, the Delhi
government has im-
posed a complete ban on
the production, sale and
use of all types of fire-
crackers this year too.
The ban covers online
delivery of firecrack-
ers,” the minister said.
Rai urged Union En-
vironment Minister
Bhupender Yadav to en-
sure the ban on fire-
crackers is strictly im-
plemented in the entire
NCR “as the smoke
from firecrackers burst
in the region impacts
the people in Delhi
also”.
A public awareness campaign—Diye Jalao Patakhe Nahi—will be launched on October 21.

IDEA OF GOVT
REPLACING THE
COLLEGIUM IS
QUITE SCARY
udiciary is under at-
tack from the gov-
ernment and on so-
cial media. Adding to
judiciary’s troubles
is the concern voiced by senior
advocate CS Vaidyanathan who
said on Tuesday that there were
rumours the Supreme Court
Collegium “is thinking of send-
ing recommendations only if
they are going to be accepted by
the government”. Even as a ru-
mour it is dangerous to imagine
that such a situation could arise.
The government has been
critical of the Collegium system
and judiciary
. Union Law Minis-
ter Kiren Rijiju recently said
that the Collegium system is
“too opaque” and that the judges
spend half their time in deciding
who to appoint as judges instead
of delivering justice. Appointing
judges is the task of the govern-
ment, he said. The remark was
an unexpected cut Rijiju inflict-
ed. It may not have been without
a purpose, however.
Jibes like these are intended
to bring the judiciary to its
knees. Hopefully the Collegium
will stand its ground and not
make bureaucrats out of judges.
J
ctogenarian Mall-
ikarjun Kharge, a
loyal Congress sol-
dier, has been
elected president
of the Grand Old Party
. He is
only the sixth non-Gandhi
president in the party’s 137
year-oldhistoryandthefirstin
the last 24 years. He defeated
his nearest rival Shashi Tha-
roor, the MP from Kerala, by a
huge margin. Tharoor, who al-
leged foul play and said that
therewasapro-Khargebiasin
the run-up to the poll, gra-
ciously accepted the verdict.
After the announcement
of Kharge as president-elect,
the incumbent Sonia Gandhi,
her son Rahul Gandhi and
daughter Priyanka Gandhi
Vadra are all expected to take
a back seat and not make the
new party boss a rubber
stamp as is being feared by
many of the party members.
He will have to ensure.
The challenges before
Kharge are many but the
deep-seated factionalism and
bringing rival factions in Ra-
jasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mad-
hya Pradesh and Karnataka
to the conciliation table to
make the party a cohesive
unit is the biggest. Reviving
the party in Gujarat, Uttar
Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra and Andhra
Pradesh is another and win-
ning elections will be his big-
gest test. How he makes work-
ers repose faith in the party
and in his leadership will
decide the fate of the party
.
Senior leaders like Kapil
Sibal, Sunil Jakhar, Ghulam
Nabi Azad, RPN Singh, Jitin
Prasada, Ashwani Kumar
and Hardik Patel resigned
citing lack of vision in the
leadership. With Kharge at
the helm, the exodus of party
leaders will hopefully be
checked. It is for him to prove
that inner party democracy
is not short-lived.

O
EMOTIONAL
SHREWDNESS
young man began experienc-
ing backaches. He became
deeply troubled about it, as-
suming the worst. The more
he worried, the greater the
pain became. Finally
, he went
to a physician, who found no
reason for his problem.
Initially
,thebackpainstart-
ed due to increased work load
which made him worry about
being a failure. After under-
standing the source of the dif-
ficulty
,thismanstoppedbeing
anxious, and the pain disap-
peared. This illustrates that
emotionalproblemscanaffect
one’s physical well-being. Un-
knowingly, a person can be-
come his own enemy
.
We live in a high-speed age
with pressures that make peo-
ple edgy
. Small things like a
thoughtless remark, an unin-
tentional bump or a discour-
tesy shown can be so annoy-
ing that it can cause tensed
personstoexplodewithanger.
If one permits small things
to cause irritation, temper
can quickly soar. Under prov-
ocation, a person does and
says things which one re-
grets later, that makes him /
her lose friends and ruin re-
lationships. Acting rashly on
some personal affront, makes
one appear foolish in the eyes
of others. By ignoring the er-
rors, one allows the dishon-
our to die down. It helps one
to preserve his / her dignity
as well as peace of mind, and
even aid those responsible
for provocation to attain
emotional balance.
Shrewdness is defined as
sharpness in perception or
understanding. An emotion-
ally shrewd person is not
crafty but practical and pru-
dent, who can foresee diffi-
culties and prepare for it.
Over sensitivity
, over con-
scientiousness,andbeingover
fussy results in nervous ex-
haustion. Such persons make
‘mountains out of molehills,’
and expect much from others.
Anxiety, fear and worry
are other harmful emotions.
They speed up aging, wrinkle
the skin and make one sus-
ceptible to disease. Tension
headaches may occur due to
stress from conflict at work
or at home.
Controlling and restrain-
ing our emotions is a sign of
strength. What makes more
sense – to ‘let off steam’ now,
thus showing anger or to cool
down the fire that is building
up the steam? Often, due to
short sightedness or igno-
rance, one reacts in a hasty
manner.
Am I a ‘worry bird’? One
can ask oneself. Can I do
something about it? If not,
one must dismiss it from
one’s mind. As the saying
goes, “what cannot be cured
must be endured.” Getting
rid of the ‘blues’ requires re-
adjusting one’s outlook to-
wards problems and learning
to remain unruffled when
people irritate. This will re-
duce emotional strain. Fa-
tigue vanishes through pur-
poseful activity
.
If a friend or a family mem-
ber is emotionally disturbed,
it is easy for them to give in to
instability, become with-
drawn, introvertedorbecome
very independent and asser-
tive. Some use coarse speech,
others pretend to be some-
thing they are not, thereby
becoming superficial.
By showing affection and
care, their self-respect can be
built. Emotional maturity is
the ability to get along well
with others with minimum
friction. Rather than treating
anyone inferior, one can heal
others by thoughtful words
and actions.
Good mental and emotion-
al habits lead to good health.
Taking out time for relaxa-
tion and a jovial frame of
mind can shield one from the
bad effects of harmful emo-
tions. Those who maintain a
cheerful disposition despite
difficulties benefit them-
selves physically
.
Music can stir every kind
of emotion – love, tender-
ness, reverence, sadness, ha-
tred and passion. It can relax
and soothe, or refresh and
enliven when one listens to
the right kind. We have an
aesthetic nature that can re-
spond emotionally to the
unique song of birds.
Fearful people generally
complainof abdominalpains.
Aggressive persons experi-
ence pain in the neck and
those in sadness usually com-
plainof backpain.One’semo-
tions can intensify the pain,
or can suppress it. For exam-
ple, players, who are involved
in a game can be injured and
yet feel no pain at that time.
Strong motivation helps one
to resist yielding to damaging
emotional upheavals.

AMARAVATI WILL BE ONLY
CAPITAL OF AP: RAHUL
Andhra Pradesh: Con-
gress leader Rahul Gan-
dhi on Wednesday said
that the Congress would
ensure that Amaravati
was the only capital of
Andhra Pradesh.
Interacting with the
media persons during
the lunch break of his
Bharat Jodo Yatra at
Kurnool, Rahul said the
Congress would not sub-
scribe to the three capi-
tals or decentralisation
of administration.
He said the party
would also look into
every promise that was
made to the people of
AP at the time of bifur-
cation in 2014. “The govt
of India had made some
promises to the people.
It made some provisions
in the AP Reorganiza-
tion Act 2014. We would
look into all those issues
and implement every-
thing written in the Act
and said on the floor of
the Parliament,” Rahul
Gandhi reiterated.
He blamed the BJP at
the Centre and the re-
gional parties in the
state for diluting the
spirit of bifurcation.
He expressed concern
over the delay in com-
pleting the Polavaram
project and implement-
ing the rehabilitation
and resettlement pack-
age for the displaced
families. In reply to a
questiononthedistribu-
tion of river water be-
tween the two Telugu
States, Rahul Gandhi
said the Congress would
create a mechanism to
settle all issues between
the two states.

requested the Asian

BCCI secretary Jay

In its first official re-

“such statements can

Pakistan’s visit to India
for the 2023 World Cup.
Shah, who made the
statement after the
BCCI AGM on Tuesday,
also happens to be the

“The overall impact
of such statements have
the potential to split the

practically possible to

the PCB said.
Pakistan has been al-

the Asia Cup which will
be held ahead of the
ODI World Cup in India
in October-November.
The T20 Asia Cup held
last month had to be
shifted from Sri Lanka
to the UAE amid the
economic crisis in the
island nation.
The 2018 Asia Cup,
scheduled to be held in
India, was moved to the
UAE after the BCCI
couldn’t procure clear-

Pakistan only play each
other in Asian and ICC

two countries. India last

West Bengal Chief
Minister Mamata Ba-
nerjee made a surpris-
ing claim today, saying
it was not she who had
chased Tata Motors out
of the state, but the
CPM that was in power
then. In a strong retort
to her comment, CPM
leader Sujan
Chakraborty told
NDTV that Ms Baner-
jee's statement was a
blatant lie.
Speaking in Siliguri,
the Bengal Chief Min-
ister said: It's all rub-
bish that I had chased
away the Tatas and that
it's the Tatas who are
now giving jobs here. I
did not chase the Tatas
away. It is the CPM that
had chased them away
.
She said CPM had tried
to forcefully acquire
land, which was later
returned by her gov-
ernment.
There is no dearth
of land, so why acquire
land forcefully? she
asked. She further said:
We have also done so
many projects, but we
did not acquire land
forcefully.
Reacting to her state-
ment, Mr Chakraborty
said: What Mamata
Banerjee said today is a
blatant lie and she has
exposed herself as a
blatant lier. Unfortu-
nately, she's the Chief
Minister of Bengal.
Taking a dig at the Ben-
gal Chief Minister, he
further said: She had

a lie, saying that she
was 'Doctor' Mamata
Banerjee.

Mumbai (PTI): The rupee plunged 61 paise to decline below the
83-mark for the first time against the US dollar on Wednesday amid
unabated foreign capital outflows and a strong dollar in the overseas

Inflation to fall below
6%nextyear: Goyal
New Delhi (PTI): RBI
Monetary Policy Commit-
tee (MPC) member Ashima
Goyal on Wednesday said
that the efforts of the Re-
serve Bank to contain price
rise by repeatedly increas-
ing interest rates will help
in containing inflation,
which is likely to fall below
6% next year.
Goyal further said that
the policy rate hikes have
largely reversed pandemic-
time cuts but the real rate
remains low enough not to
hurt the growth recovery
.
“With a lag of two-three
quarters, higher real rates
will reduce demand in the
economy. “International
commodity prices are sof-
tening with the global slow-
down and supply chain bot-
tlenecks have reduced,”
she said. In order to control
rising inflation, the RBI on
Sept 30, raised the short-
term lending rate for the
third consecutive time by .5
to take repo rate to 5.9%.
“The Indian government
is also taking action to re-
duce supply-side inflation.
Current projections show
inflation falling below 6%
next year,” Goyal said.
According to Goyal, a
mildly positive real inter-
est rate can act to reduce
inflation, with supportive
supply-side action, while
imposing minimal growth
sacrifice.
She noted that today the
forward-looking real inter-
est rate is positive and such
a rapid response in an in-
flation targeting regime to
inflation exceeding toler-
ance bands, helps anchor
inflation expectations.
Replying to a question on
the Indian rupee touching
a historic low, Goyal point-
ed out that a more depreci-
ated rupee makes imports
more expensive and hurts
those who have borrowed
abroad but may raise re-
turns for some exporters.
While observing that
lower imports and higher
exports can help reduce the
current account deficit,
she said the dollar is
strengthening against all
currencies as rising Fed
rates attract funds back to
the US.

US REPATRIATES
307 ANTIQUITIES
STOLEN FROM INDIA
Yoshita Singh
New York: A globe-
spanning, 15-year inves-
tigation has led to the
repatriation of 307 an-
tiquities by the US that
was stolen and traf-
ficked from India and
valued at nearly four
million dollars, the ma-
jority seized from dis-
graced art dealer Sub-
hash Kapoor.
Of these, 235 antiqui-
ties were seized follow-
ing the investigation by
the office of the Man-
hattan District Attor-
ney into Kapoor, “a pro-
lific looter who helped
traffic items from Af-
ghanistan, Cambodia,
India, Indonesia, Myan-
mar, Nepal, Pakistan,
Sri Lanka, Thailand,
and other countries.”
All antiquities were
returned during a repa-
triation ceremony at the

Jaiswal, and US Home-
land Security Investiga-

cial Agent-in-Charge

ment issued by the Man-
hattan District Attor-
ney’s office said.
“These antiquities
were stolen by multiple
complex and sophisti-
cated trafficking rings
the leaders of which
showed no regard for
the cultural or histori-
cal significance of these
objects,” Bragg said,
adding that “we are
proud to return hun-
dreds of stunning piec-
es back to the people of
India.” One of the an-
tiquities being returned
from Wiener is the
Vishnu and Lakshmi
with Garuda dating to
the 11th century C.E.,
which was looted from
a temple in Central In-
dia and smuggled into
New York County

Among the pieces being returned is the Arch Parikara,
crafted from marble and dating to the 12th-13th century.
Valued at approximately USD 85,000, the Arch Parikara
was among the antiquities seized from Kapoor. It first
surfaced in photographs depicting antiquity in a dirty,
pre-restoration condition. These photographs along with
dozens of others depicting antiquities lying in the grass
or on the ground were sent to Kapoor by a supplier of
illicit goods in India, the statement said, adding that the
piece was smuggled out of India and into New York in
May 2002. Kapoor laundered the Arch Parikara to the Na-
than Rubin Ida Ladd Family Foundation, which donated
the piece to the Yale University Art Gallery in 2007.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Delhi envi- ronment minister Go- pal Rai said, “Bursting of firecrackers on Di- wali in Delhi will at- tract jail term up to six months and a fine of Rs 200.” Not only this, even production, storage and sale of firecrackers in the capital will be pun- ishable with a fine of up to Rs 5,000 and three years jail under Section 9B of the Explosives Act, the minister said. Emissions from firecrackers are extremely dangerous especially for kids, women and the elderly . “Therefore, the Delhi government has im- posed a complete ban on the production, sale and use of all types of fire- crackers this year too. The ban covers online delivery of firecrack- ers,” the minister said. Adding to judiciary’s troubles is the concern voiced by senior advocate CS Vaidyanathan who said on Tuesday that there were rumours the Supreme Court Collegium “is thinking of send- ing recommendations only if they are going to be accepted by the government”. Even as a ru- mour it is dangerous to imagine that such a situation could arise. The government has been critical of the Collegium system and judiciary . Union Law Minis- ter Kiren Rijiju recently said that the Collegium system is “too opaque” and that the judges spend half their time in deciding who to appoint as judges instead of delivering justice. Appointing judges is the task of the govern- ment, he said. The remark was an unexpected cut Rijiju inflict- ed. It may not have been without a purpose, however. Jibes like these are intended to bring the judiciary to its knees. Hopefully the Collegium will stand its ground and not make bureaucrats out of judges. J ctogenarian Mall- ikarjun Kharge, a loyal Congress sol- dier, has been elected president of the Grand Old Party . He is only the sixth non-Gandhi president in the party’s 137 year-oldhistoryandthefirstin the last 24 years. He defeated his nearest rival Shashi Tha- roor, the MP from Kerala, by a huge margin. Tharoor, who al- leged foul play and said that therewasapro-Khargebiasin the run-up to the poll, gra- ciously accepted the verdict. After the announcement of Kharge as president-elect, the incumbent Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are all expected to take a back seat and not make the new party boss a rubber stamp as is being feared by many of the party members. He will have to ensure. The challenges before Kharge are many but the deep-seated factionalism and bringing rival factions in Ra- jasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mad- hya Pradesh and Karnataka to the conciliation table to make the party a cohesive unit is the biggest. Reviving the party in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh is another and win- ning elections will be his big- gest test. How he makes work- ers repose faith in the party and in his leadership will decide the fate of the party . Senior leaders like Kapil Sibal, Sunil Jakhar, Ghulam Nabi Azad, RPN Singh, Jitin Prasada, Ashwani Kumar and Hardik Patel resigned citing lack of vision in the leadership. With Kharge at the helm, the exodus of party leaders will hopefully be checked. It is for him to prove that inner party democracy is not short-lived. TOUGH ROAD AHEAD FOR NEW CONG PREZ The challenges before Kharge are many but the deep-seated factionalism and bringing rival factions in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, MP and Karnataka to the conciliation table to make the party a cohesive unit is the biggest. Reviving the party in Gujarat, UP, MP, Maharashtra and AP is another and winning elections will be his biggest test O EMOTIONAL SHREWDNESS young man began experienc- ing backaches. He became deeply troubled about it, as- suming the worst. The more he worried, the greater the pain became. Finally , he went to a physician, who found no reason for his problem. Initially ,thebackpainstart- ed due to increased work load which made him worry about being a failure. After under- standing the source of the dif- ficulty ,thismanstoppedbeing anxious, and the pain disap- peared. This illustrates that emotionalproblemscanaffect one’s physical well-being. Un- knowingly, a person can be- come his own enemy . We live in a high-speed age with pressures that make peo- ple edgy . Small things like a thoughtless remark, an unin- tentional bump or a discour- tesy shown can be so annoy- ing that it can cause tensed personstoexplodewithanger. If one permits small things to cause irritation, temper can quickly soar. Under prov- ocation, a person does and says things which one re- grets later, that makes him / her lose friends and ruin re- lationships. Acting rashly on some personal affront, makes one appear foolish in the eyes of others. By ignoring the er- rors, one allows the dishon- our to die down. It helps one to preserve his / her dignity as well as peace of mind, and even aid those responsible for provocation to attain emotional balance. Shrewdness is defined as sharpness in perception or understanding. An emotion- ally shrewd person is not crafty but practical and pru- dent, who can foresee diffi- culties and prepare for it. Over sensitivity , over con- scientiousness, andbeingover fussy results in nervous ex- haustion. Such persons make ‘mountains out of molehills,’ and expect much from others. Anxiety, fear and worry are other harmful emotions. They speed up aging, wrinkle the skin and make one sus- ceptible to disease. Tension headaches may occur due to stress from conflict at work or at home. Controlling and restrain- ing our emotions is a sign of strength. What makes more sense – to ‘let off steam’ now, thus showing anger or to cool down the fire that is building up the steam? Often, due to short sightedness or igno- rance, one reacts in a hasty manner. Am I a ‘worry bird’? One can ask oneself. Can I do something about it? If not, one must dismiss it from one’s mind. As the saying goes, “what cannot be cured must be endured.” Getting rid of the ‘blues’ requires re- adjusting one’s outlook to- wards problems and learning to remain unruffled when people irritate. This will re- duce emotional strain. Fa- tigue vanishes through pur- poseful activity . If a friend or a family mem- ber is emotionally disturbed, it is easy for them to give in to instability, become with- drawn, introvertedorbecome very independent and asser- tive. Some use coarse speech, others pretend to be some- thing they are not, thereby becoming superficial. By showing affection and care, their self-respect can be built. Emotional maturity is the ability to get along well with others with minimum friction. Rather than treating anyone inferior, one can heal others by thoughtful words and actions. Good mental and emotion- al habits lead to good health. Taking out time for relaxa- tion and a jovial frame of mind can shield one from the bad effects of harmful emo- tions. Those who maintain a cheerful disposition despite difficulties benefit them- selves physically . Music can stir every kind of emotion – love, tender- ness, reverence, sadness, ha- tred and passion. It can relax and soothe, or refresh and enliven when one listens to the right kind. We have an aesthetic nature that can re- spond emotionally to the unique song of birds. Fearful people generally complainof abdominalpains. Aggressive persons experi- ence pain in the neck and those in sadness usually com- plainof backpain.One’semo- tions can intensify the pain, or can suppress it. For exam- ple, players, who are involved in a game can be injured and yet feel no pain at that time. Strong motivation helps one to resist yielding to damaging emotional upheavals. Goyal further said that the policy rate hikes have largely reversed pandemic- time cuts but the real rate remains low enough not to hurt the growth recovery . “With a lag of two-three quarters, higher real rates will reduce demand in the economy. “International commodity prices are sof- tening with the global slow- down and supply chain bot- tlenecks have reduced,” she said. In order to control rising inflation, the RBI on Sept 30, raised the short- term lending rate for the third consecutive time by .5 to take repo rate to 5.9%. “The Indian government is also taking action to re- duce supply-side inflation. Current projections show inflation falling below 6% next year,” Goyal said. According to Goyal, a mildly positive real inter- est rate can act to reduce inflation, with supportive supply-side action, while imposing minimal growth sacrifice. She noted that today the forward-looking real inter- est rate is positive and such a rapid response in an in- flation targeting regime to inflation exceeding toler- ance bands, helps anchor inflation expectations. Replying to a question on the Indian rupee touching a historic low, Goyal point- ed out that a more depreci- ated rupee makes imports more expensive and hurts those who have borrowed abroad but may raise re- turns for some exporters. While observing that lower imports and higher exports can help reduce the current account deficit, she said the dollar is strengthening against all currencies as rising Fed rates attract funds back to the US.
