ENERGY CRISIS
or how to run a coun-

Lanka and Pakistan
must take a lesson
from India which is
stoically warding off global
headwinds to avert a crisis. Sri
Lanka’s worse than that of Paki-
stan which has had problems
with economic development due
to its greater patronage to ter-
rorists than entrepreneurs. As a
consequence of which a Paki-
stan minister advised people to
stop drinking tea in order to
save foreign exchange. In anoth-
er development, all shopping
malls, wedding halls and mar-

been asked to close down early

Sri Lanka’s fuel crisis is going
from bad to worse. From next
week government offices and
schools will shut down from
Monday if the fuel and energy
supply do not improve. Lankan

India, in comparison, is in a

iolent protests by
Agniveers have al-
ready done a lot of
damage to govern-
ment property be-
sides causing inconvenience
to the people. The anger of
Agniveer aspirants was justi-
fied, but certainly not the
widespread arson and dam-
age to property
. The extent of
violence has been such that
an impression has been cre-
ated about protesters not be-
ing aspirants for jobs in the
armed forces. It is now be-
lieved that other troublemak-
ers have tried to take advan-
tage of the movement. The
crackdown and police cases
on the agitators that followed
the violence would leave the
angry youth facing a dark al-
ley
. Their entry in the defence
forces is as good as blocked.
The government is reach-
ing out to the angry youth by
announcing concessions in
the scheme. Even as Defence
Minister Rajnath Singh held
another meeting with the
three Services chiefs on Sun-
day, the government prom-
ised a 10 percent job quota for
Agniveers in paramilitary
forces to address employment
concerns of the youth at the
end of four years. The reser-
vationwillalsobeprovidedin

Union Home Minister’s said
in a tweet that Agniveers will
be given three-year age relax-
ation beyond the prescribed

The angry youth must look
at these developments and
prepare for the recruitment
process. Eschewing violence
for some stability in career,
even if it is short lived, is
what the youth must seri-
ously consider. The govern-
ment may not be willing to

Reacting Mindfully!
INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY — JUNE 21
ith the moment ushering on
21st June as International
Yoga Day, it is the time to sit
back and reflect and acknowl-
edge that we all experience
suffering, discontent, or dis-
satisfaction. Acceding this
predicament is the first step
towards understanding the
painful experience which is
more relevant than ever be-
fore in the current excruciat-
ing times that we all are ex-
periencing. With everything
that is currently going on in
the world, our stress levels
may likely be heightened.
For some people, the uncer-
tainty of this time causes a
lot of anxiety, especially the
younger segment such as
small children and teenag-
ers. It’s important to realize
and practice healthy ways of
de-stressing as we learn how
to deal with normal everyday
life. While the world is gasp-
ing in bewilderment to save
itself from the agonizing Ef-
fects of home -office and in-
creasing stress on the young-
er generation which seem
rhapsodical, looking back
may hand us an enshrined
solution in the form of yoga
which may equip us to fight
this battle.
International Yoga day is a
reminder that from the an-
cient scripture to the Middle
Ages until the very recent
studies which are supported
by scientific evidence, it is
becoming very apparent that
yoga is not only the strength-
ening of the body but also
stabilizing the mind and
heart through various
breathing techniques. It is
one form of physical exercise
that works in synchroniza-
tion with the mind and soul.
There is ample literature
available on yoga not only in
India but also across Europe.
What makes yoga exclu-
sive is, it’s being inclusive.
People of all age groups, na-
tionalities, and social back-
grounds can practice it be-
cause yoga is accessible to
all. There are various kinds
of yoga practices, so it’s pos-
sible for anyone to start. Size
and fitness levels don’t mat-
ter, there are modifications
for every yoga pose. Apart
from the real physical effect
of stress and anxiety on our
younger population, the men-
tal health implications of
this can be felt just as strong-
ly. For those already suffer-
ing from mental health con-
ditions or anxiety, the added
stress can feel overwhelming
and unmanageable. Anxiety
thrives on uncertainty and
being in a constant state of
waiting for something to hap-
pen will only increase this.
Anxiety and the manner in
which we breathe are co-
joint. The principles of yoga
offer a wonderful, logical ex-
planation to regulate stress.
Studies have shown how, if
practiced in moderation
from an early age, yoga teach-
es you to train your brain for
healthy emotional outlets
and handle stress which
seem almost crucial to teen-
agers.
Breathing and yoga are of-
tentimes associated with the
same umbrella. While both
activities encourage mind-
fulness, health, and relaxa-
tion. Yoga can get intense
and serve as a workout de-
pending on the level. Breath-
ing, however, is effortless and
can be practiced everywhere
with being a little mindful.
Often, when we are in a
stressful situation, we get
anxious and do not give our
minds a chance to think logi-
cally. This is the situation
where mostly the people of
age group between 12 to 20
react frantically to the situa-
tion from day to day life.
Breathing rightfully sup-
ports our emotional health
by stamping out the informa-
tion overload that we all ex-
perience daily. It allows us a
clean space in our mind
which in turn can cast us to-
wards positivity
. We not only
feel revamped but we also
become mindful of people
and situations which lead us
to a deep consciousness of
life -force. Which the youth
needs to invest in the future.
Yoga fosters empathy and
larger understanding, and it
is worth observing that sym-
pathy and receptivity lie at
the very root of yoga’s first
principle- helping others by
helping oneself.
Yoga practice can help
young people, especially stu-
dents to develop a non-impul-
sive reaction to events. As
Krishnamurti states “You
can perceive totally, com-
pletely only when the mind is
wholly quiet. So the profes-
sionals, the teachers, the gu-
rus say you must sit in a cer-
tain posture, control your
thought, breathe properly,
and so on.” This will lead one
to handle contradicting emo-
tions. Do not take your
breathing for granted, it’s
magical when you know how
to breathe right. Taking the
time to breathe mindfully
and deeply for a few minutes
or so can already help you to
see an improvement without
even moving a muscle. The
power of being still is just as
important as the power of
movement. Children need to
be active but also they need
mindful emotional clarity
.

Over time, yoga can help
you to regain that sense of
control and allow your
mind and your body to
sharpen each other, which
in turn gives you the tools
to better manage those
moments when you feel
anxious over a situation,
you can’t control be it
school assignment pressure
or a feeling of isolation.
Sometimes our biggest
enemy is our own mind, so
give yourself some time to
relax your mind and focus
on yourself. It is doing
more good for your body
than you know. On this
international day of yoga
let’s embark on this self-
fulfilling journey of yoga
and peaceful joy

New Delhi (ANI): The
Indian Air Force (IAF)
on Sunday released de-
tails on the recruitment
plan under the Centre’s
new Agnipath Scheme

Agniveers once en-

riod of four years. En-
deavour will be made to

the statement issued by

It further stated that
Agniveers would form a

Rahul Gandhi slams Vijayvargiya’s statement
New Delhi: Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi on
Sunday questioned prime
minister Narendra Modi’s
silence on the Agnipath
scheme controversy, as
he reacted to BJP leader
Kailash Vijayvargiya’s
statement that he (Vi-
jayvargiya) would give
preference to ‘Agniveers’
if he could hire people
to protect BJP’s offices.
“Those who did not hoist
the tricolour for 52 years
after independence, they
cannot be expected to
respect our soldiers,”
Gandhi said. “Youngsters
are passionate about
joining the army because
they want to protect the
country, and not because
they want to be chowk-
idars at BJP’s offices. The
PM’s silence is a stamp on
this insult,” Rahul added.

percent of the Ag-
niveers who would be

said that the retiring

agement department,

you look at it, it’s not
even a big deal.
If on an average,
GoI appoints 50 thou-
sand Agniveers every
year and out of them
37k people retire eve-
ry 4 years, then in a
small state like As-
sam, the number of
Agniveers retiring
will be around one
thousand or so. Ad-
justing 1000 people in
jobs every year is not
a big deal. Even from
big states, number of
Agniveers who retire
every year will not be
very high.

New Delhi : Barring a
few exceptions in India,
strong leaders do not
contest the Presidential
elections, especially not
from the opposition
parties. Rarely has it
happened that a person
of strong political back-
ground and engaged in
active politics from the
opposition has contest-
ed the election of the
President. Usually, it is
considered that any
leader from the opposi-
tion would loose the
election, so no towering
or senior leader is ready
to fight these elections.
A leader who fights for
a Rajya Sabha ticket,
even if he or she is
asked to contest the
election of the Presi-
dent, they would refuse.
They would rather
agree to contest the
election of Lok Sabha
or State Assembly by
taking the risk of losing
but would not want to
contest the election of
the President.
This is the reason
why opposition parties
have to put forward the
names of ‘spent’ leaders
or non-political persons.
This time also leaders
like Sharad Pawar and
HD Deve Gowda have
refused to contest the
presidential election.
Bihar Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar’s name
was speculated to be in
the Presidential race,
however, the manner in
which he gave a clarifi-
cation, made people feel
that if he didnt clarify,
he may have been
caught and fielded force-
fully for the Presidential
election! If the opposi-
tion parties had fielded
a strong leader and then
even if the presidential
election would have
been ‘pre-decided’, at
least the fight would
have been good.
This is the first time
the Shiv Sena has raised
this point on behalf of
the opposition parties. It
hasrejectedtheproposal
to name both Gopal
Krishna Gandhi and Fa-
rooq Abdullah by writ-
ing an editorial in its
mouthpiece ‘Saamana’,
terming both of them as
‘weak candidates’. Shiv
Sena has stressed on the
need to field a strong
leader from the opposi-
tion side and even many
other opposition parties
want a real fight instead
of a symbolic fight. The
opposition knows that af-
ter fighting unitedly
, 30 to
35%of thevoteswillgoto
itscandidate.Despitethis,
if an active and strong
leader is fielded, he will
roam around the country
and create a political at-
mosphere.
If we talk about the
last 30 years, the only re-
nowned politian with a
respectablepublicstand-
ing had been Bhairon
Singh Shekhawat, who
contested the Presiden-
tialelection.However,he
too had retired from ac-
tive politics and contest-
ed the presidential elec-
tion after being the VP
forfiveyears.Apartfrom
him, the opposition has
given a symbolic candi-
date every time. Meira
Kumar was the candi-
date in the last election
i.e. 2017 and PA Sangma
contested in the 2012
elections. Shekhawat
had fought in 2007. In
2002, the opposition sup-
ported APJ Abdul Kal-
am, but the Left had
fieldedCaptainLakshmi
Sehgal. Before that in
1997 also the opposition
had supported KR
Narayanan, yet Shiv
Sena had fielded TN Se-
shan. Before that, in
1992, George Swale was
the opposition’s candi-
date. The story of presi-
dentialcandidatesof the
party‘in-power’isnodif-
ferent. In the last 30 yrs,
except Pranab Mukher-
jee, all other ‘govern-
ment’ candidates were
also retired politicians
or non-politicians.

MUKUNDRA SAFARI:
ADVENTURE OR
MISADVENTURE?
The forest department is turning
adventurous as it plans to start a
safari in Mukundra with just one
tigress. As per informed sources the
process to register safari vehicles has
started. At the moment, safaris are
being organised in Ranthambore and
Sariska. Their are 77 26 tiger herds
in Ranthambore and Sariska
respectively. Whereas in the Mukundra
hills habitat their is just one tigress MT-
4. In the last 18 months six tigers and
cubs have died in Mukundra owing to
the negligence of forest department.
The department hasn’t been able to
sustain a tiger herd in the region and is
still planning to go ahead with a safari.
To make things worse, monsoons are
approaching wherein the safari will be
closed. With such unpreparedness,
starting a safari would be misadventure
which might not attract any tourists.

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: AnewCollector
is being searched for
Jaipur district as the
currentJaipurCollector
- Rajan Vishal - will be
leavingforstudyleaveat
the end of the year, hav-
ing served at the post
since January this year.
The current govern-
ment would therefore,
appoint fifth Collector
for the state capital.
The current dipensa-
tion has created two re-
cords, of sorts, as far as
Jaipur Collectors are
concerned. Firstly, the
government has ap-
pointed five collectors
in merely three and a
half years of its term
and secondly, handing
over the reins of the all-
important district to
promotee IAS from
RAS. It is important to
note that promotee IAS
Jagroop Singh was post-
ed as Collector merely
11 months before his re-
tirement to oblige the
‘favoured’ official. Simi-
larly, second promotee
IAS Antar Singh Nehra
was also awarded the
position for being gov-
ernment’s ‘favourite’.
However, his term was
marked with controver-
sies and due to disgrun-
tlement of senior offi-
cials in the state govern-
ment, Nehra had to be
removed after 12
months. Serving as
Jaipur Collector is a
challenging task and
prior to the current gov-
ernment, the unwritten
rule had been that a sen-
ior IAS with experience
in Collectorates of 2-3
districts would be given
this position.
The names doing the
rounds which can be
considered after Rajan
Vishal leaves, are Muk-
tanandAgarwal,Nakate
S Madan, Kumar Pal
Gautam, Chetan Deora
and Tarachand Meena.
A 2008 batch IAS of-
ficer, Muktanand Agar-
wal is serving currently
as Registrar, Coopera-
tives and is considered a
favourite officer of the
government. He has
served as Collector in 6
districts and can now be
givennewresponsibility
Nakate S Madan, a
2011 batch officer, is
currently serving as Al-
war Collector and has
proved his capabilities
in Barmer, Srigangana-
gar and Bhilwara as
Collector. Interestingly,
he has ‘protection’ of
senior officers in the
government.
A 2009 batch IAS of-
ficer, Kumar Pal Gau-
tam has been eyeing the
chair of Jaipur Collec-
tor for a long time and
is currently serving as
RUIDP Project Director.
Although he had fallen
out of favour of the
government in recent
past, but now ‘all is
well’, reportedly.
A Promotee IAS offic-
er of 2088 batch, Chetan
deora, hails from Jodh-
pur and is another fa-
vourite of the state gov-
ernment. He was given
the position of Excise
Commissioner, but he
courted controversy and
was removed after four
months.Heissettoretire
after 6 months and could
be given the position to
oblige and reward him
for his services.
A2011batchpromotee
IAS officer, Tara Chand
Meena is considered to
be the front-runner for
the Jaipur Collectorate
and has two years to his
retirement. He too could
be given the high chair
prior to his reitrement
as a reward.
Apart from these of-
ficer, there are half a
dozen more IAS officers,
who are in the race for
Jaipur Collectorate and
only time will tell who
amongtheseispreferred
for the coveted post!

Jaipur: The Congress

“The PM should un-

nounced financial sup-

Why isU’khandPolicereluctanttoregister
FIR against land mafia and miscreants?
First India Bureau
Dehradun: Is the Utta-
rakhand Police a force
merely for optics or is it
a force to take tough
stand and actions on
miscreants? An inci-
dent that occurred on
Sunday has surely
brought the conviction
and commitment of the
state’s police force un-
der question.
On Sunday morning,
some miscreants had
encroached and illegal-
ly captured a property
situated in Nalapani po-
lice station area on Ra-
jpura Road of Uttara-
khand, where con-
struction work was
going on at the spot.
Meanwhile, 40 to 50 mis-
creants armed with
weapons arrived at the
spot and started remov-
ing the construction
equipment and items. It
is alleged that the
goons had reached un-
der leadership of one
Pankaj Arora, Late Dur-
garani’s son.
The property owner
immediately gave a com-
plaint to the police, but
the police also failed to
act on the complaint!
First India prominently
picked up the issue and
after the matter was
pickedup,thelocalpolice
came out of its slumber
and took action and after
removing both the sides
to the dispute from the
said land, the cops took
the parties to the Nalapa-
ni police station. Howev-
er, the ‘aggressors’ were
released by the police af-
ter merely issuing a
warning! Neither the ac-
cusedwastakenintocus-
tody nor an FIR has been
registered till now.
Therefore, now the
question remains as to
why is the Nalapani po-
lice station being kind
to the ‘goons’ and ag-
gressors? Why is the lo-
cal police reluctant to
act against the ‘miscre-
ants’? Is there such a
major difference in law
and order of Uttara-
khand and Uttar
Pradesh, where UP is
proving to be a better
managed state, while
wrongful activities re
being carried out under
the very nose of Uttara-
khand police! Will
Chief Minister Push-
kar Dhami take cogni-
zance in the matter?
Raj HC CJ for a month!

India, in comparison, is in a very comfortable situation. TOP TWEETS F iolent protests by Agniveers have al- ready done a lot of damage to govern- ment property be- sides causing inconvenience to the people. The anger of Agniveer aspirants was justi- fied, but certainly not the widespread arson and dam- age to property . The extent of violence has been such that an impression has been cre- ated about protesters not be- ing aspirants for jobs in the armed forces. It is now be- lieved that other troublemak- ers have tried to take advan- tage of the movement. The crackdown and police cases on the agitators that followed the violence would leave the angry youth facing a dark al- ley . Their entry in the defence forces is as good as blocked. The government is reach- ing out to the angry youth by announcing concessions in the scheme. Even as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held another meeting with the three Services chiefs on Sun- day, the government prom- ised a 10 percent job quota for Agniveers in paramilitary forces to address employment concerns of the youth at the end of four years. The reser- vationwillalsobeprovidedin Coast Guard, the 16 defence public sector undertakings and defence civilian posts. Union Home Minister’s said in a tweet that Agniveers will be given three-year age relax- ation beyond the prescribed upper age limit for recruit- mentinCentralArmedPolice Force and Assam Rifles. The angry youth must look at these developments and prepare for the recruitment process. Eschewing violence for some stability in career, even if it is short lived, is what the youth must seri- ously consider. The govern- ment may not be willing to give in to pressure. VIOLENCE WILL NOT WORK FOR YOUTH Even as Defence Minister held another meeting with the three Services Chiefs on Sunday, govt promised a 10 per cent job quota for Agniveers in paramilitary forces to address employment concerns of youth at end of 4 years V Reacting Mindfully! INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY — JUNE 21 ith the moment ushering on 21st June as International Yoga Day, it is the time to sit back and reflect and acknowl- edge that we all experience suffering, discontent, or dis- satisfaction. Acceding this predicament is the first step towards understanding the painful experience which is more relevant than ever be- fore in the current excruciat- ing times that we all are ex- periencing. With everything that is currently going on in the world, our stress levels may likely be heightened. For some people, the uncer- tainty of this time causes a lot of anxiety, especially the younger segment such as small children and teenag- ers. It’s important to realize and practice healthy ways of de-stressing as we learn how to deal with normal everyday life. While the world is gasp- ing in bewilderment to save itself from the agonizing Ef- fects of home -office and in- creasing stress on the young- er generation which seem rhapsodical, looking back may hand us an enshrined solution in the form of yoga which may equip us to fight this battle. International Yoga day is a reminder that from the an- cient scripture to the Middle Ages until the very recent studies which are supported by scientific evidence, it is becoming very apparent that yoga is not only the strength- ening of the body but also stabilizing the mind and heart through various breathing techniques. It is one form of physical exercise that works in synchroniza- tion with the mind and soul. There is ample literature available on yoga not only in India but also across Europe. What makes yoga exclu- sive is, it’s being inclusive. People of all age groups, na- tionalities, and social back- grounds can practice it be- cause yoga is accessible to all. There are various kinds of yoga practices, so it’s pos- sible for anyone to start. Size and fitness levels don’t mat- ter, there are modifications for every yoga pose. Apart from the real physical effect of stress and anxiety on our younger population, the men- tal health implications of this can be felt just as strong- ly. For those already suffer- ing from mental health con- ditions or anxiety, the added stress can feel overwhelming and unmanageable. Anxiety thrives on uncertainty and being in a constant state of waiting for something to hap- pen will only increase this. Anxiety and the manner in which we breathe are co- joint. The principles of yoga offer a wonderful, logical ex- planation to regulate stress. Studies have shown how, if practiced in moderation from an early age, yoga teach- es you to train your brain for healthy emotional outlets and handle stress which seem almost crucial to teen- agers. Breathing and yoga are of- tentimes associated with the same umbrella. While both activities encourage mind- fulness, health, and relaxa- tion. Yoga can get intense and serve as a workout de- pending on the level. Breath- ing, however, is effortless and can be practiced everywhere with being a little mindful. Often, when we are in a stressful situation, we get anxious and do not give our minds a chance to think logi- cally. This is the situation where mostly the people of age group between 12 to 20 react frantically to the situa- tion from day to day life. Breathing rightfully sup- ports our emotional health by stamping out the informa- tion overload that we all ex- perience daily. It allows us a clean space in our mind which in turn can cast us to- wards positivity . We not only feel revamped but we also become mindful of people and situations which lead us to a deep consciousness of life -force. Which the youth needs to invest in the future. Yoga fosters empathy and larger understanding, and it is worth observing that sym- pathy and receptivity lie at the very root of yoga’s first principle- helping others by helping oneself. Yoga practice can help young people, especially stu- dents to develop a non-impul- sive reaction to events. As Krishnamurti states “You can perceive totally, com- pletely only when the mind is wholly quiet. So the profes- sionals, the teachers, the gu- rus say you must sit in a cer- tain posture, control your thought, breathe properly, and so on.” This will lead one to handle contradicting emo- tions. Do not take your breathing for granted, it’s magical when you know how to breathe right. Taking the time to breathe mindfully and deeply for a few minutes or so can already help you to see an improvement without even moving a muscle. The power of being still is just as important as the power of movement. Children need to be active but also they need mindful emotional clarity . THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL W Over time, yoga can help you to regain that sense of control and allow your mind and your body to sharpen each other, which in turn gives you the tools to better manage those moments when you feel anxious over a situation, you can’t control be it school assignment pressure or a feeling of isolation. Sometimes our biggest enemy is our own mind, so give yourself some time to relax your mind and focus on yourself. It is doing more good for your body than you know. On this international day of yoga let’s embark on this self- fulfilling journey of yoga and peaceful joy International Yoga day is a reminder that from the ancient scripture to the Middle Ages until the very recent studies which are supported by scientific evidence, it is becoming very apparent that yoga is not only the strengthening of the body but also stabilizing the mind and heart through various breathing techniques Promoted by Bhagwan Das Phulwani Realty Pvt. Children are not en- titled to vote in elec- tions so they are not considered a votebank for the political parties but the issues concern- ing them pose a grave challenge. The pan- chayat elections are non-party based while urban body elections are held on a party ba- sis. Both the BJP and the Congress will release their manifestos for the urban body elections and preparations are going on in full swing. The people in Madhya Pradesh have demand- ed that issues concern- ing children and wom- en should be given equal importance by both the parties in their manifestos. Mahesh Sharma New Delhi : Barring a few exceptions in India, strong leaders do not contest the Presidential elections, especially not from the opposition parties. Rarely has it happened that a person of strong political back- ground and engaged in active politics from the opposition has contest- ed the election of the President. Usually, it is considered that any leader from the opposi- tion would loose the election, so no towering or senior leader is ready to fight these elections. A leader who fights for a Rajya Sabha ticket, even if he or she is asked to contest the election of the Presi- dent, they would refuse. They would rather agree to contest the election of Lok Sabha or State Assembly by taking the risk of losing but would not want to contest the election of the President. This is the reason why opposition parties have to put forward the names of ‘spent’ leaders or non-political persons. This time also leaders like Sharad Pawar and HD Deve Gowda have refused to contest the presidential election. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s name was speculated to be in the Presidential race, however, the manner in which he gave a clarifi- cation, made people feel that if he didnt clarify, he may have been caught and fielded force- fully for the Presidential election! If the opposi- tion parties had fielded a strong leader and then even if the presidential election would have been ‘pre-decided’, at least the fight would have been good. This is the first time the Shiv Sena has raised this point on behalf of the opposition parties. It hasrejectedtheproposal to name both Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Fa- rooq Abdullah by writ- ing an editorial in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, terming both of them as ‘weak candidates’. Shiv Sena has stressed on the need to field a strong leader from the opposi- tion side and even many other opposition parties want a real fight instead of a symbolic fight. The opposition knows that af- ter fighting unitedly , 30 to 35%of thevoteswillgoto itscandidate.Despitethis, if an active and strong leader is fielded, he will roam around the country and create a political at- mosphere. If we talk about the last 30 years, the only re- nowned politian with a respectablepublicstand- ing had been Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who contested the Presiden- tialelection. However,he too had retired from ac- tive politics and contest- ed the presidential elec- tion after being the VP forfiveyears.Apartfrom him, the opposition has given a symbolic candi- date every time. Meira Kumar was the candi- date in the last election i.e. 2017 and PA Sangma contested in the 2012 elections. Shekhawat had fought in 2007. In 2002, the opposition sup- ported APJ Abdul Kal- am, but the Left had fieldedCaptainLakshmi Sehgal. Before that in 1997 also the opposition had supported KR Narayanan, yet Shiv Sena had fielded TN Se- shan. Before that, in 1992, George Swale was the opposition’s candi- date. The story of presi- dentialcandidatesof the party‘in-power’isnodif- ferent. In the last 30 yrs, except Pranab Mukher- jee, all other ‘govern- ment’ candidates were also retired politicians or non-politicians. WHY DONT STRONG LEADERS CONTEST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS? JPC/004/2022-24 Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: AnewCollector is being searched for Jaipur district as the currentJaipurCollector - Rajan Vishal - will be leavingforstudyleaveat the end of the year, hav- ing served at the post since January this year. The current govern- ment would therefore, appoint fifth Collector for the state capital. The current dipensa- tion has created two re- cords, of sorts, as far as Jaipur Collectors are concerned. Firstly, the government has ap- pointed five collectors in merely three and a half years of its term and secondly, handing over the reins of the all- important district to promotee IAS from RAS. It is important to note that promotee IAS Jagroop Singh was post- ed as Collector merely 11 months before his re- tirement to oblige the ‘favoured’ official. Simi- larly, second promotee IAS Antar Singh Nehra was also awarded the position for being gov- ernment’s ‘favourite’. However, his term was marked with controver- sies and due to disgrun- tlement of senior offi- cials in the state govern- ment, Nehra had to be removed after 12 months. Serving as Jaipur Collector is a challenging task and prior to the current gov- ernment, the unwritten rule had been that a sen- ior IAS with experience in Collectorates of 2-3 districts would be given this position. The names doing the rounds which can be considered after Rajan Vishal leaves, are Muk- tanandAgarwal,Nakate S Madan, Kumar Pal Gautam, Chetan Deora and Tarachand Meena. A 2008 batch IAS of- ficer, Muktanand Agar- wal is serving currently as Registrar, Coopera- tives and is considered a favourite officer of the government. He has served as Collector in 6 districts and can now be givennewresponsibility Nakate S Madan, a 2011 batch officer, is currently serving as Al- war Collector and has proved his capabilities in Barmer, Srigangana- gar and Bhilwara as Collector. Interestingly, he has ‘protection’ of senior officers in the government. A 2009 batch IAS of- ficer, Kumar Pal Gau- tam has been eyeing the chair of Jaipur Collec- tor for a long time and is currently serving as RUIDP Project Director. Although he had fallen out of favour of the government in recent past, but now ‘all is well’, reportedly. A Promotee IAS offic- er of 2088 batch, Chetan deora, hails from Jodh- pur and is another fa- vourite of the state gov- ernment. He was given the position of Excise Commissioner, but he courted controversy and was removed after four months.Heissettoretire after 6 months and could be given the position to oblige and reward him for his services. A2011batchpromotee IAS officer, Tara Chand Meena is considered to be the front-runner for the Jaipur Collectorate and has two years to his retirement. He too could be given the high chair prior to his reitrement as a reward. Apart from these of- ficer, there are half a dozen more IAS officers, who are in the race for Jaipur Collectorate and only time will tell who amongtheseispreferred for the coveted post! ‘HUSHED’ RACE FOR JAIPUR COLLECTORATE BEGINS! IN POWER CORRIDORS First India Bureau Jaipur: Commenting on UDH Minister Shan- ti Dhariwal’s remark on Education Minister Dr BD Kalla, Dy LoP Rajen- dra Rathore tweeted, “I salute the courage of my friend UDH Minis- ter Shanti Dhariwal who scolded Congress High Command on pre- text of Education Min BD Kalla. The contra- diction in Cabinet is at its peak. Now minis- ters should wear hel- mets amid tight police arrangements while going out.” Shanti Dhariwal had commented on party’s decision to give ticket to Dr Kalla, who lost elections twice, while speaking at a party meeting in Kota on Saturday. Justice Shinde to take over as Raj HC CJ for a month! Contradiction is at its peak in Cabinet: Rathore It’s not... What must have hap- pened to their family. So, is this method good?” he asked while talking to media at Del- hi airport. He said the institutions like ED and CBI arent’ independent these days and mali- cious action is being taken against LoPs. “Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi are being har- assed unnecessarily . Gandhi family sacri- ficed for nation. Indira Gandhi Rajiv Gandhi gave their lives for coun- try . Today, situation is very tense,” Gehlot said. Senior officers of constitutional institu- tions are working un- der pressure. Delhi Po- lice entered Congress HQs beat up leaders. Such acts don’t send a good message. Delhi Po- lice wants to crush peaceful protest, he said. “Centre’s various agencies are targeting Raj. It is fascist think- ing. On June 13, I sought time to meet Director of CBI, ED, Income Tax but they refused to meet. My family has nothing to do with poli- tics but they are harass- ing them. Its wrong. Take action against us if you want but why harass family,” he said. Roll back Agnipath in time: CM to Centre The Modi government is against people. They want to fill the people of RSS in the Army, says Dotasra Ziauddin Khan Jaipur: The Congress on Sunday, held a pro- test in Jaipur against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme and demanded its withdrawal in the ‘interest’ of the youth and the country. CM Ashok Gehlot al- leged the government introduced the scheme in a hurry, which cre- ated resentment among the youth and the gen- eral public. “The PM should un- derstand youth senti- ments and withdraw the scheme within time. The decision was taken in a hurry . It is being op- posed across the coun- try. I believe that the government should take a quick decision and take it back,” Ge- hlot told reporters at the Amar Jawan Jyoti where the party leaders gathered for the protest amid slight showers. PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra said the decision of starting contractual recruit- ment of soldiers is “an- ti-national, anti-people and against the security of the country”. “The Modi government is against people. Earlier, the PM deceived farm- ers, then traders and now the youth. They want to fill RSS people in the Army,” he said, adding, “Modi became the PM with youth farmers’s vote, but he troubled them. The ral- ly which started from Amar Jawan Jyoti con- cluded at PCC. Various Congress leaders including Pratap Singh Khachari- yawas, Dr BD Kalla, Mamta Bhupesh, Udai- lal Anjana, Mahesh Joshi, Rafeek Khan, Amin Kagzi, Krishna Poonia, Dharmendra Rathore, Munesh Gur- jar and other leaders participated in the rally . Birla: Tribals have strived to save Jal, Jungle Zameen First India Bureau Kota: Lok Sabha Speak- er Om Birla on Sunday, laid the foundation stone of a hostel for Bheel community in Tagore Nagar. There was so much enthusiasm among the people of the commu- nity that they kept standing in heavy rain- fall for the programme. Birla laid the founda- tion stone and also an- nounced financial sup- port of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of the hostel. He also appreci- ated the community people for their aware- ness for education. The hostel is being con- structed by Akhil Bhar- tiya Adivasi Bheel Vi- kas Samiti. Why isU’khandPolicereluctanttoregister FIR against land mafia and miscreants? First India Bureau Dehradun: Is the Utta- rakhand Police a force merely for optics or is it a force to take tough stand and actions on miscreants? An inci- dent that occurred on Sunday has surely brought the conviction and commitment of the state’s police force un- der question. On Sunday morning, some miscreants had encroached and illegal- ly captured a property situated in Nalapani po- lice station area on Ra- jpura Road of Uttara- khand, where con- struction work was going on at the spot. Meanwhile, 40 to 50 mis- creants armed with weapons arrived at the spot and started remov- ing the construction equipment and items. It is alleged that the goons had reached un- der leadership of one Pankaj Arora, Late Dur- garani’s son. The property owner immediately gave a com- plaint to the police, but the police also failed to act on the complaint! First India prominently picked up the issue and after the matter was pickedup, thelocalpolice came out of its slumber and took action and after removing both the sides to the dispute from the said land, the cops took the parties to the Nalapa- ni police station. Howev- er, the ‘aggressors’ were released by the police af- ter merely issuing a warning! Neither the ac- cusedwastakenintocus- tody nor an FIR has been registered till now. Therefore, now the question remains as to why is the Nalapani po- lice station being kind to the ‘goons’ and ag- gressors? Why is the lo- cal police reluctant to act against the ‘miscre- ants’? Is there such a major difference in law and order of Uttara- khand and Uttar Pradesh, where UP is proving to be a better managed state, while wrongful activities re being carried out under the very nose of Uttara- khand police! Will Chief Minister Push- kar Dhami take cogni- zance in the matter? Raj HC CJ for a month!
