himself had appealed to
the Commission that he
should be “relieved from
the Election Commission
sinceitwasimpossiblefor
him to work considering
the current atmosphere in
the department.”
Considering his ap-
peal, the department re-
lieved him. First India
had recently published a
story that all was not well
in the Election Depart-
ment and Kunal was
working in a half-hearted
manner.
As of now, Kunal, a
2003 batch IAS, has the
additional charge of Sec-
retary of MinorityAffairs
Department. Prior to this,
he had the charge of Sec-
retary, Animal Husband-
ry Department and it is
believed that DoP will
accord him a new respon-
sibility.
An important aspect,
according to learned
sources, is that two other
officials will be changed
in Chief Electoral Officer
Praveen Gupta’s team.
The Election Commis-
sion will give approval to
new names in place for
Joint CEO Pratibha Pa-
reek and Deputy CEO
Alok Jain. DoPhas sent a
panel of three names for
the three vacant posts. It
is interesting to note that
DoP had appointed Alok
Jain, to the post of Depu-
ty CEO, in the month of
August only. But Elec-
tion Commission turned
down Jain’s name.
It is also important to
note that Principal Secre-
tary rank officer of 1995
batch - Praveen Gupta -
has been handling the
responsibility of CEO
since July 2020 and thus,
he has also played a re-
cord innings. But the
Election Commission is
so happy with his work-
ing that it has complete
faith in his abilities and is
going to hand him the
reins of conducting the
assembly elections three
months down the line.

harat’ has
been known
since ancient
times as an
eternal na-
tion with a rich civilization
and a spirituality-oriented
culture that has influenced
the entire globe. Bharat is
the region of ‘Bharatagni’,
the nectar giver that nour-
ishes the people (Rigveda
5/11/1). Due to the influ-
ence of this Bharatagni,
with six different seasons
and three Saptasindhus,
huge and small rivers flow-
ing in different directions,
this land laden with crops
has remained fertile and the
people have been getting
their sustenance on this
land. This sprawling land,
full of natural resources
nourished by Bharatagni,
along with the humans who
were always engrossed in
the acquisition of knowl-
edge, was started being ad-
dressed by the name of
‘Bharat’, a word synony-
mous with Bharatagni
(Vishvamitrasya Rakshati
Brahmedam Bharatam
Janam – Rigveda 3/53/12).
While mentioning the
regional boundaries of the
country, it has been stated
in Vishnu Purana that ‘Ut-
taram Yat Samudrasya
Himadreshchaiva Dakshi-
nam, Varshaam Tad
Bharatam Naam Bharati
Yatra Santatih.’That is, the
name of the region which
is north of the sea and south
of the Himalayas, is
Bharat. The people living
here are called ‘Bhara-
teey.’According to Chapter
37 in Skanda Purana,
Rishabhdev’s son was
Bharat, after whom this re-
gion was named ‘Bharat.’
Apart from this, the name
Bharat gets strength from
the name of Bharat, son of
Shakuntala and King Du-
shyant in the Adiparva of
Mahabharata. After the
birth of Bharat, sage Kan-
va blesses him that he will
become the Chakravarti
emperor in the future and
this entire region will be
known as ‘Bharat’after his
name. According to Mat-
syapuran (114/5,6) due to
feeding the people, the
rulerofthiscountry(Manu)
is called Bharat. Bharat
muni composer of Natya-
shastra, Rajarshi Bharat,
and Dashrath’s son Bharat
have been mentioned in
various texts, and the word
‘Bharat’ is mentioned in
Mahabharata as well. It is
absolutely right to say that
Bharat is an integral part of
our people’s psyche. The
word ‘Bharat’itself means
Lokpal and world protec-
tor. It is mentioned in the
book Bharat Mahima that
land of Bharat has always
been sacred and loving.
The mythological sig-
nificance of the name
‘Bharat’ is deeply embed-
ded in the minds of our peo-
ple. Bharat is not just a
word but it is a mantra
whose mere pronunciation,
‘bha + ra + t’, invokes all
the three qualities of nature,
i.e. ‘bha’ means sattva
(light, knowledge), ‘ra’
means rajas and ‘ta’ means
tamas, that is, the trinity
powers are invoked. The
glory of Bharat has been
described with pride in our
national anthem. ‘Jana
Gana Mana Adhinayak Jai
He, Bharat Bhagya Vid-
haata’ – In this line, Bharat
has been praised as a su-
preme divine power. In the
country of Bharat, which
gives the message of unity
in diversity, people of dif-
ferent types of cultures, lan-
guages, creeds, and identi-
ties have been united under
one flag. From this, it is
clear that the natives of this
landgavethename‘Bharat’
to this country. It is note-
worthy here that the word
‘India’ is a word used by
foreigners in a geographi-
cal context about two and a
half thousand years ago,
which was much popular-
ized by the British during
British rule. The word ‘In-
dia’reminds us of the slav-
ish slavery mentality, the
exploitation of the people
of this country by the Brit-
ish, whereas, the word
‘Bharat’represents the cul-
tural heritage of this coun-
try, with the pronunciation
of which the streams of
knowledge, science, and
values propounded by the
Vedic sages start flowing
spontaneously in our mind.
Itisalsopertinenttomen-
tion that in order to under-
stand the real meaning of
many words, it is most ap-
propriate to use the native
language grown from one’s
own soil and not a foreign
language. The name of any
country is a reflection of its
cultural and historical iden-
tity. We have always pro-
claimed and worshiped
Bharat Mata considering
her inspirational in the light
of emotions, because that
maternal feeling cannot be
realizedwiththewordIndia.
The name India has no sim-
ilaritywiththelanguageand
culture of the country, nor
does it have any ideological
connection with its history.
For inmates of Bharat, this
fundamental question re-
lates to a symbol of our
mythological culture, na-
tional sentiment, and patri-
otism.Ouridentity,ourcon-
text, and our existence are
embedded in Bharat. The
glorioushistoryofourcoun-
tryandtherealidentityofits
culture and civilization is
hidden in the name Bharat
itself. Although the land of
Bharat has been known by
different names like Jam-
budweep, Bharatkhand,
Himvarsh, Aryavarta and
Hindustan,themostpopular
name of our country, which
is full of diverse culture, has
remained Bharat only. The
real identity of our country
cannot be expressed with
the word India. When the
word Hindu went to the
West, it got distorted in the
Greeklanguageandbecame
Indu. During the time of
Chandragupta Maurya,
Megasthenes, the Greek
ambassador, came to Patli-
putra and wrote a book on
Bharat,namedIndica.Since
then the western countries
have been addressing it by
the name Indica or India. In
reality, the basic essence of
the word Bharat got subor-
dinated, and in such a situa-
tion,theimpactoftheimage
of Bharat at the global level
got equated with the name
India. Many efforts have
been made to change the
name of our country back to
Bharat. In 2004, a political
party in its manifesto had
promisedtorenameIndiaas
Bharat. In the years 2015
and 2020, a petition was
also filed in the Supreme
Court relating to this. Ulti-
mately the Supreme Court
was of the opinion that the
decision on this issue would
have to be taken in Parlia-
ment. To keep our language
and culture intact and to en-
rich its pride, this is need of

Cong to oppose Bill on
CEC but cannot stop it
INDIA-CANADA RELATIONS
HIT A ROUGH PATCH
he Congress Working Committee has
drawn the battle line for the special session
of Parliament beginning September 18. At
a meeting the CWC decided to oppose the Bill
downgrading the Election Commissioners from the
level of a Supreme Court judge to that of the Cab-
inet Secretary. The Congress said the Bill will un-
dermine the independence of the poll body. The
GOP also rejected the one nation, one poll idea of
the ruling party.
The opposition by the Congress is only of sym-
bolic value as it is in no position to block the pas-
sage of any Bill. In fact, even a combined Opposi-
tion is much short of the numbers to do that. What
then can one expect? Disruption of proceedings and
some slanging to make a point, but all an exercise
in futility.
The CWC, however, sent out an important mes-
sage to party leaders on Sanatan Dharma. It asked
them to avoid controversial issues and focus on poll
strategy to defeat the BJP.
T
ndia-Canada ties have hit a turbulent patch
over the Justin Trudeau government’s in-
action against the Khalistani separatists
living in Canada. The Canadian Prime Minister
defended his government at a press conference at
the end of the G20 summit. “Canada will always
defend freedom of expression, freedom of con-
science and freedom of peaceful protests and it is
extremely important to us…at the same time we
are always there to prevent violence and to push
back against hatred.” He also said that “the actions
of the few do not represent the entire community
or Canada”. In his frank statement also underlies
indirect criticism of India which has obviously
been displeased
with the stand taken
by the Canada PM.
The war of words
continued between
the two countries
even after Trudeau
had left. The Minis-
try of External Af-
fairs (MEA) issued
a statement to join
the issue with
Trudeau. The MEA
stated that the “free-
dom of expression
should not be mis-
used to advocate
violence or propa-
gate separatism”.
Back in Ottawa
Trudeau responded,
“They are wrong” about Canada not doing any-
thing against the Khalistanis. Foreign Minister S.
Jaishankar said earlier that Canada seemed to be
driven by vote-bank politics.
The issue has led Canada to put a pause to its
trade talks with India. It also led to Canadian
Trade Minister Mary Ng indefinitely postponing
her scheduled visit to India. Union Commerce
Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the talks
have been put on hold due to disagreement on cer-
tain issues. The trade talks were to re-launch the
Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the
ministerial dialogue was to strengthen bilateral
trade ties.

An internal survey in
Congress, carried out by
Mind Share head Sunil
Kanugolu on behalf of
theAICC, has considered
60 to 70 seats as weak.
Out of these, there is a
need to cut the tickets of
MLAs on 40 seats and 5
ministers are also on the
radar. Tickets were dis-
tributed in Karnataka on
the basis of Kanugolu’s
survey and Congress
formed the government
there.
In such a situation,
Congress party may give
a chance to new people in
Rajasthan Assembly
elections. Congress is
contesting the Assembly
elections by keeping CM
Gehlot’s plans forward
but many MLAs facing
anti-incumbency as such
their tickets may be axed.
This time, Congress is
moving forward only on
the basis of winning can-
didate.
On the other hand, BJP
high command thinks
that last time the tickets
were not selected prop-
erly as such brainstorm-
ing is happening for each
seat in New Delhi.
AICC’s surprising survey!
This time, Congress in
Rajasthan is only
moving forward with
the winnability factor
of the candidate

Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur AS Krishna Ku- nal got relieved fromtherespon- sibility of Additional Chief Electoral Officer on Friday, after playing a longinningsofthreeyears and ten months in the de- partment.Actually, Kunal himself had appealed to the Commission that he should be “relieved from the Election Commission sinceitwasimpossiblefor him to work considering the current atmosphere in the department.” Considering his ap- peal, the department re- lieved him. First India had recently published a story that all was not well in the Election Depart- ment and Kunal was working in a half-hearted manner. As of now, Kunal, a 2003 batch IAS, has the additional charge of Sec- retary of MinorityAffairs Department. Prior to this, he had the charge of Sec- retary, Animal Husband- ry Department and it is believed that DoP will accord him a new respon- sibility. An important aspect, according to learned sources, is that two other officials will be changed in Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta’s team. The Election Commis- sion will give approval to new names in place for Joint CEO Pratibha Pa- reek and Deputy CEO Alok Jain. DoPhas sent a panel of three names for the three vacant posts. It is interesting to note that DoP had appointed Alok Jain, to the post of Depu- ty CEO, in the month of August only. But Elec- tion Commission turned down Jain’s name. It is also important to note that Principal Secre- tary rank officer of 1995 batch - Praveen Gupta - has been handling the responsibility of CEO since July 2020 and thus, he has also played a re- cord innings. But the Election Commission is so happy with his work- ing that it has complete faith in his abilities and is going to hand him the reins of conducting the assembly elections three months down the line. • 4. harat’ has been known since ancient times as an eternal na- tion with a rich civilization and a spirituality-oriented culture that has influenced the entire globe. Bharat is the region of ‘Bharatagni’, the nectar giver that nour- ishes the people (Rigveda 5/11/1). Due to the influ- ence of this Bharatagni, with six different seasons and three Saptasindhus, huge and small rivers flow- ing in different directions, this land laden with crops has remained fertile and the people have been getting their sustenance on this land. This sprawling land, full of natural resources nourished by Bharatagni, along with the humans who were always engrossed in the acquisition of knowl- edge, was started being ad- dressed by the name of ‘Bharat’, a word synony- mous with Bharatagni (Vishvamitrasya Rakshati Brahmedam Bharatam Janam – Rigveda 3/53/12). While mentioning the regional boundaries of the country, it has been stated in Vishnu Purana that ‘Ut- taram Yat Samudrasya Himadreshchaiva Dakshi- nam, Varshaam Tad Bharatam Naam Bharati Yatra Santatih.’That is, the name of the region which is north of the sea and south of the Himalayas, is Bharat. The people living here are called ‘Bhara- teey.’According to Chapter 37 in Skanda Purana, Rishabhdev’s son was Bharat, after whom this re- gion was named ‘Bharat.’ Apart from this, the name Bharat gets strength from the name of Bharat, son of Shakuntala and King Du- shyant in the Adiparva of Mahabharata. After the birth of Bharat, sage Kan- va blesses him that he will become the Chakravarti emperor in the future and this entire region will be known as ‘Bharat’after his name. According to Mat- syapuran (114/5,6) due to feeding the people, the rulerofthiscountry(Manu) is called Bharat. Bharat muni composer of Natya- shastra, Rajarshi Bharat, and Dashrath’s son Bharat have been mentioned in various texts, and the word ‘Bharat’ is mentioned in Mahabharata as well. It is absolutely right to say that Bharat is an integral part of our people’s psyche. The word ‘Bharat’itself means Lokpal and world protec- tor. It is mentioned in the book Bharat Mahima that land of Bharat has always been sacred and loving. The mythological sig- nificance of the name ‘Bharat’ is deeply embed- ded in the minds of our peo- ple. Bharat is not just a word but it is a mantra whose mere pronunciation, ‘bha + ra + t’, invokes all the three qualities of nature, i.e. ‘bha’ means sattva (light, knowledge), ‘ra’ means rajas and ‘ta’ means tamas, that is, the trinity powers are invoked. The glory of Bharat has been described with pride in our national anthem. ‘Jana Gana Mana Adhinayak Jai He, Bharat Bhagya Vid- haata’ – In this line, Bharat has been praised as a su- preme divine power. In the country of Bharat, which gives the message of unity in diversity, people of dif- ferent types of cultures, lan- guages, creeds, and identi- ties have been united under one flag. From this, it is clear that the natives of this landgavethename‘Bharat’ to this country. It is note- worthy here that the word ‘India’ is a word used by foreigners in a geographi- cal context about two and a half thousand years ago, which was much popular- ized by the British during British rule. The word ‘In- dia’reminds us of the slav- ish slavery mentality, the exploitation of the people of this country by the Brit- ish, whereas, the word ‘Bharat’represents the cul- tural heritage of this coun- try, with the pronunciation of which the streams of knowledge, science, and values propounded by the Vedic sages start flowing spontaneously in our mind. Itisalsopertinenttomen- tion that in order to under- stand the real meaning of many words, it is most ap- propriate to use the native language grown from one’s own soil and not a foreign language. The name of any country is a reflection of its cultural and historical iden- tity. We have always pro- claimed and worshiped Bharat Mata considering her inspirational in the light of emotions, because that maternal feeling cannot be realizedwiththewordIndia. The name India has no sim- ilaritywiththelanguageand culture of the country, nor does it have any ideological connection with its history. For inmates of Bharat, this fundamental question re- lates to a symbol of our mythological culture, na- tional sentiment, and patri- otism.Ouridentity,ourcon- text, and our existence are embedded in Bharat. The glorioushistoryofourcoun- tryandtherealidentityofits culture and civilization is hidden in the name Bharat itself. Although the land of Bharat has been known by different names like Jam- budweep, Bharatkhand, Himvarsh, Aryavarta and Hindustan, themostpopular name of our country, which is full of diverse culture, has remained Bharat only. The real identity of our country cannot be expressed with the word India. When the word Hindu went to the West, it got distorted in the Greeklanguageandbecame Indu. During the time of Chandragupta Maurya, Megasthenes, the Greek ambassador, came to Patli- putra and wrote a book on Bharat, namedIndica.Since then the western countries have been addressing it by the name Indica or India. In reality, the basic essence of the word Bharat got subor- dinated, and in such a situa- tion, theimpactoftheimage of Bharat at the global level got equated with the name India. Many efforts have been made to change the name of our country back to Bharat. In 2004, a political party in its manifesto had promisedtorenameIndiaas Bharat. In the years 2015 and 2020, a petition was also filed in the Supreme Court relating to this. Ulti- mately the Supreme Court was of the opinion that the decision on this issue would have to be taken in Parlia- ment. To keep our language and culture intact and to en- rich its pride, this is need of thehourthatthenameofour countryremainsBharat, not only for us but for the entire world. We need to come out ofslavementality.Recently, on invitation card of G-20, ‘President of Bharat’ was mentionedinsteadof‘Presi- dentofIndia’andduringthe G-20 summit, ‘Bharat’ was mentioned on nameplate in front of PM. Modi. These are laudable steps. The need of the hour is that instead of using the foreign word In- dia, we should use the word ‘Bharat’ all measures should be taken to bring Bharat into official use. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL TOP TWEETS SPIRITUAL SPEAK You should perform your duty with a view to guide people and for universal welfare. BHAGAVAD GITA SHUN SLAVE MENTALITY To keep our language and culture intact and to enrich its pride, this is need of the hour that the name of our country remains Bharat, not only for us but for the entire world. We need to come out of the mental- ity of slavery. Recently, on the invitation card of G-20, ‘President of Bharat’ was mentioned in place of ‘President of India’ and during the G-20 summit, ‘Bharat’ was mentioned in place of ‘India’ on the nameplate in front of PM Modi. These are laudable steps. This reflects that Bharat is deeply rooted within the glorious culture of our motherland. The need of the present time is that instead of using the foreign word India, we should use the word Bharat and all appropriate measures should be taken to bring the word Bharat into official use. COUNTRYNAMESHOULDREMAIN ‘BHARAT’ INEVERYLANGUAGE The mythological significance of the name ‘Bharat’ is deeply embedded in the minds of our people. At a meeting the CWC decided to oppose the Bill downgrading the Election Commissioners from the level of a Supreme Court judge to that of the Cab- inet Secretary. The Congress said the Bill will un- dermine the independence of the poll body. The GOP also rejected the one nation, one poll idea of the ruling party. The opposition by the Congress is only of sym- bolic value as it is in no position to block the pas- sage of any Bill. In fact, even a combined Opposi- tion is much short of the numbers to do that. What then can one expect? Disruption of proceedings and some slanging to make a point, but all an exercise in futility. The CWC, however, sent out an important mes- sage to party leaders on Sanatan Dharma. It asked them to avoid controversial issues and focus on poll strategy to defeat the BJP. T ndia-Canada ties have hit a turbulent patch over the Justin Trudeau government’s in- action against the Khalistani separatists living in Canada. The Canadian Prime Minister defended his government at a press conference at the end of the G20 summit. “Canada will always defend freedom of expression, freedom of con- science and freedom of peaceful protests and it is extremely important to us…at the same time we are always there to prevent violence and to push back against hatred.” He also said that “the actions of the few do not represent the entire community or Canada”. In his frank statement also underlies indirect criticism of India which has obviously been displeased with the stand taken by the Canada PM. The war of words continued between the two countries even after Trudeau had left. The Minis- try of External Af- fairs (MEA) issued a statement to join the issue with Trudeau. The MEA stated that the “free- dom of expression should not be mis- used to advocate violence or propa- gate separatism”. Back in Ottawa Trudeau responded, “They are wrong” about Canada not doing any- thing against the Khalistanis. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said earlier that Canada seemed to be driven by vote-bank politics. The issue has led Canada to put a pause to its trade talks with India. It also led to Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng indefinitely postponing her scheduled visit to India. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the talks have been put on hold due to disagreement on cer- tain issues. The trade talks were to re-launch the Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the ministerial dialogue was to strengthen bilateral trade ties.
