2. Metallic Yarn
The yarn which are composed of metals or as a blend of metallic fiber with other
fibers.
Metallic fibers are fine drawn filaments of metals which spun and woven.
These yarns express the properties of metals fromwhich they formed.
Source of Material:-
o Aluminum
o Gold
o Silver
o Copper
Manufacturing Methods:-
There are two manufacturing processes commonly
used.
Laminating method
Metalizing method
Laminating method:-
Itis mostcommonly used method for the production of
metallic yarn. In this method Aluminum is sealed between two layers of acetate
or polyester.
3. Coloration of this type of metallic yarn is done by either coloring the metallic
filament or by coloring polyester or acetate films.
Metalizing method:-
The metal is heated to vaporize. When the metal is
vaporizeit deposited on the Polyester film at high pressure.
By using this process yarn is:
o Thinner
o Flexible
o Durable
Note:
Metallic yarn may Shaved from wires.
4. Types of metallic yarn on the basis of Yarn Formation:-
Plastic coated metal
Metal coated plastic
Core completely cover by metal
Plastic coated:-
When the yarn is spun inner coreis of a synthetic fiber
and wrapped with metallic filaments.
Metal coated plastic:-
If the metallic yarn is composed of metallic filament
and synthetic fiber with inner core is metal and synthetic filaments arewrapped on
the metallic filament.
5. Core completely cover by metal:-
If the metallic yarn is composed of
metal and other fibers with coreis completely covered with metallic filament and
the outer sideis of any other yarn.
Types of Metallic Yarn:-
Types of metallic yarn are given bellow
M type
MH type
MX type
MHS type
ST type
M Type:-
M type of metallic yarn is manufactured by metalized process. In which
metal is vaporized and deposited on polyester.
Silver and gold are the basic colors of M type metallic yarn.
Uses:-
o Pre dyed textiles
o Velvet
o Laces
o Embroidery
o Accessories
o Interiordecoration
o Kitchen scrubber
MH Type:-
M type metallic yarn twisted with viscoserayon 120D or polyester filament
yarn 150D.
MH Type metallic yarn is softas compared to M Type metallic yarn.
6. Uses:-
o Sweaters or Knitwear’s
o Tricots
o Embroidery
o High fashion clothes
MX Type:-
M Type metallic yarn twisted with 30D/1F Nylon yarn X2 ends, 1
end is covered clockwiseand other is anti-clock wise.
MX Type metallic yarn has greater tensile strength and gracefulcolor effect.
Uses:-
o Jacquard fabric
o Embroidery
o Stocking
MHS Type:-
M Type metallic yarn is wrapped on the ViscoseRayon or Nylon
Filament.
7. Uses:-
Used for Embroidery thread.
ST Type:-
ViscoseRayon or Polyester filaments are wrapped on the M Type metallic
yarn.
Uses:-
o For machine embroidery
o For hand embroidery
Blends:-
Metallic Yarn blended with followings for different purposes.
o Polyester
o Acetate
o Nylon
o Cotton
o Silk
8. o Wool
o Viscose Rayon
Uses of Metallic yarn:-
Antistatic & antimagnetic waves fabrics, high temperature resistantmetal
fabric, high temperature resistant non-woven, sintered filter media,
antistatic plastic are also products of metallic fiber
Beaker heat resistant separation material is a rangeof metal fabric to
withstand extreme temperature. They are metal fiber products blended
with synthetic fibers for the production of anti-static textile material.
Stainless steel fiber grains for conductiveplastics are the most efficient
solution to protect against Electromagnetic interference.
Metallic filaments are used for decorative purposes e.g. in Lamps etc.
These are also used in upholstery fabric and in textiles.
Stainless steel and other metals fibers are also used for communication
purposes in the form of telephone lines and television cable lines.
The most common end usefor metallic fibers is upholstery fabric and
textiles such as Lame and brocade.
These are also used in highly computerized area where such shocks are
expected. They are also protective suits and space suit
They are also used in missile nose
