2. A producer is the person who created the project you are working on. They
came up with the idea by creating a script, doing research and creating mind
maps. Other ways they do is by producing a book.
PRODUCER
3. The producer tells the director their idea and then the director creates that
idea by adding in things and taking them out. The producer can also be the
director but some people decide to hire more professional and experienced
people. With some projects directors base their projects on books and create
television series or films with these ideas.
DIRECTOR
4. The assistant director takes responsibility for a number of important
practicalities so that the director is free to concentrate on the current project.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
5. An actor is a person who stars as another character in a project. A project can
have a number of characters which requires a lot of actors. Men are referred
to as actors whereas, woman are referred to as actresses.
ACTORS
6. Producers should ensure that no cast or crew member is exposed to risks to
their health and safety. To ensure this there should be at least one experienced
member on set, this includes; trained paramedic or trained first aider.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
7. The job role of this person is to get cast members safely home from the set.
Also, if the set need some essentials and more props this person would drive
there to pick up the desired item in time.
TRANSPORT
8. Film crews work long hours and need to eat well. On sets or locations, the
standard daily meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus coffee or snacks if
the crew are required to work late into the evening. Catering is provided by
specialized companies who drive catering trucks packed with food and a range
of equipment including ovens, extraction fans, fridges, gas and water, to each
unit base.
CATERING
9. Usually there is a group who do this job role depending on the number of
actors and extras. There job is to design the actors and extras how they are
perceived through the directors and producers eyes by creating their character
with the make up and hair design.
HAIR AND MAKE-UP DESIGNER
10. The prop master is in charge to make sure the props are suitable for the films
budget requirements. They also have to make sure that the chosen props suit
the films style. Another job that the prop master deals with is to make sure
that an actor or an extra have the correct prop for the correct scene making
sure that they have the prop on time.
PROP MASTER
11. A camera operator, also called a cameraman or a camerawoman, is a
professional operator of a film or video camera. In filmmaking, the leading
camera operator is usually called a cinematographer. The camera operator is
responsible for physically operating the camera and maintaining composition
and camera angles throughout a given scene or shot.
CAMERA OPERATOR
12. Costume designers create outfits for characters to wear, in order to create
successful costumes they have to do their research by looking into the
costume styles, designs and the construction methods suitable for the time
period.
COSTUME DESIGNER
13. A moving light operator, also known as lighting technicians have the job of
operating lighting equipment on the set whether that’s inside or outside.
Lighting technicians are responsible for the movement and set up of various
pieces of lighting equipment for separation of light and shadow, depth of
field and visual effects. Lighting Technicians may also lay electrical cables, wire
fixtures, install colour effects or image patterns, focus the lights, and assist in
creating effects or programming sequences. A lighting technician's work
concerns safety of rigging and working with objects which can be very heavy
and get very hot.
MOVING LIGHT OPERATOR
14. The script editor has many responsibilities including finding new script
writers, developing storylines and a series of ideas with writers, ensuring that
scripts are suitable for production. The script editor will work closely with the
writer at each draft of their script, giving the writer feedback on the quality of
their work, suggesting improvements that can be made whilst also ensuring
that practical issues like show continuity and correct running time are adhered
to. Unlike the writers, script editors will usually be full-time members of the
production team, working closely with the producer.
SCRIPT EDITOR
15. Casting crews job role is to find actors to fit in the specific category for each
character. Casting directors do this by working with producers, directors,
writers and reading the script to create brief descriptions of the physical
attributes, skills and experience sought in actors to portray particular
characters. They also have to sort out the actors auditions by looking through
their head shots and their resumes, when the producers and directors have
agreed on selected auditions whom they think is good enough for the role the
casting director is responsible for scheduling the auditions.
