3. Producer
The person responsible for the financial and management of the production of a
media product. This means they are in charge of the whole production and any
final decisions is made by them. The financial budget is determined by them as
well as the final outcome.
We decided that I (Bavleen) would be taking this role as we are basing our
media product on my narrative. Although, we have tweaked parts of my idea we
are still sticking to the storyline. I will have to insure that all the deadlines are
met and the trailer is edited before the deadline allowing my group the time to
make last moment changes if required. Also, my responsibility would be to keep
control of the budget and that we don’t go over it to avoid any inconvenience. I
will also have to ensure that all pre-production, post-production and production
tasks are done with clarity avoiding any confusions.
4. Director
The person who supervises the actors and staff in a film. They are in charge of
all activity. They will tell the actors what to do and how to behave on stage.
They make sure of all the staffs wellbeing and make sure the actors are
successful in conveying the genre of the film.
We chose Indiana for this role because she is familiar with the performing arts
department. Also, being the casting agent it will allow her to stay in touch with
actors and meet all their wants and needs and to make sure they don’t feel
unsafe at any point. Indiana has good relationship with the actors, this would
work as a benefit as she will know how to deal with their problems. Indiana will
have to look at other production aspect of the film as well such as:
cinematography, music etc. Indiana will also have to give some creative ideas
which could be used for the trailer and make sure everyone is doing their job
right.
5. Director of Photography/Cinematographer
The person in charge of camera crews working on the set. They are
responsible for making the artistic and technical decisions of the film. This
person knows what they want to be shown in the media product so they
determine the final visual look of the film.
I am going to handle photography as we have chose to do my narrative so I
have idea of what I want the film to look like. Therefore, she will be in charge of
how the film looks. This can only be done if she tells the filming crew what to
do. This role includes demonstrating the visual look of the teaser trailer. My role
also would be to ensure the positioning of the camera and look in to shots to
make sure they are complimenting the narrative. Also, as a director of
photography I will have to make sure everything in the shot is effective to the
narrative.
6. Production Designer
The person who is responsible for the overall look of the films production. This
means deciding the films location as well as what will be shown in each shot.
They are in charge of making sure the setting conveys the correct atmosphere-
fear in our case.
We have chosen Faiza as she is a creative person. We feel this artistic side to
her will be expressed as she designs the production setting. Moreover, she is
more familiar with certain parts of London which may be useful when it comes
to shooting. She has even offered her home as a shooting location meaning
she will feel more comfortable adapting it to the film’s needs. Faiza will have to
keep in mind the storyline and the script of the film to ensure the settings are
relevant to the scene. She will need to make some changes to her house or her
room to make it meet the codes and conventions of horror. The locations
designed by Faiza will be finalised and used for our film so her role is extremely
important to our teaser trailer.
7. Casting Agent
The person who searches for actors or models to be in their media product.
They will decide who gets chosen to play each role depending on their looks
and the way they can perform. In order to do so, they will hold auditions and
make an overall decision. This will also be digitally recorded.
We chose Indiana as our casting agent as she works with the performing arts
students and therefore has better knowledge of the effectiveness of drama
techniques. Amongst all of us in the group Indiana is the one who has good
connections with the performing arts students which would work in our favour
as she will be able to convince them to work for our trailer. In order to select
actors we will need to run interviews/audition to make sure we have right
people in our trailer. The auditions will also help us see what the actors are
capable of and their strength and weaknesses. Auditions will help us find the
right person for our teaser trailer.
8. Editor & Sound Producer
The editor is the person who determines the final content of the media product.
They choose what shots are used and what effects may be used. The sound
producer is the person in charge of the music and sounds that will be present in
the final media product. They overall decide on the background music and any
non-diegetic sounds that are present in the film.
We have chosen Jeet for this/these role(s) as she is more knowledgeable about
technology. She is more intellectually aware of the technical aspects of the
creation of media products and this will be useful when creating our trailer. We
also feel her technical abilities will be useful when creating background music,
overall being successful in generating the feeling of suspense. Moreover, she
owns the mac and software we will be using. Her role will also be to make sure
the music and the sound effects match what is been shown on the screen.
Taking up this role, Jeet will have to make sure she views all the footage closely
to make sure nothing crucial to the teaser trailer is missed out. We wont be
leaving all the editing on Jeet as we will be supporting her to help her develop
the editing and also provide her with different opinions.
9. Costume Designer
The person who designs the outfits worn by the actors. They decide on how
each character will look and appear on stage. They maintain the outfits and are
in charge of their well-being. For example, if an actor was playing the role of a
secondary school student, it would be their decision on what type of uniform will
be worn and how it will look to the audience. They will work closely with the
makeup artist.
As Jeet is also better at textiles than the rest of us. She is familiar with the
significance of certain materials as well as being an aesthetic person who
understands the importance and impact clothing/ outfits can have. Before
revealing making any final decisions, she will discuss her ideas with the group
first. Jeet will have to make sure that she keeps the actors personality in mind
while creating their costumes to make sure it matches the scene and is relevant
to our trailer. She will have to keep the characters close to the storyline and
also make sure they look realistic and believable.
10. Make-up Artist
The person who applies makeup on the actors to determine the final look. They
are responsible for applying make-up and prosthetics to actors for dramatic
effect and characterisation. In order to help with the overall production, they
have to make sure the make-up applied is suitable for the lighting and does not
make it difficult for the camera to capture them. They will assist the costume
designer.
Out of all of us, Faiza is the most fashionable in here and is knowledgeable of
using make-up. She is inventive and understands what type of atmosphere can
be conveyed through appearance. She will work closely with Jeet to determine
each characters finalised look. Their role is also to make sure that the actors
are dressed properly and there are substitutes in case anything is not to plan.
They will at all times have to make sure that characters visual appearances is
maintained throughout the teaser trailer. They will also have to make sure the
characters looks are realistic to make it look better.
11. Prop Manager
The person who is in charge of purchasing or making props for the production
of the film. They will ensure that everything needed for the films setting is ready
as well as anything that is needed for the actor’s usage. They will need to refer
to the production designer as well as referring to the storyline’s script.
I (Bavleen) will be in charge of the props management as being the producer I
have to look in to the financial aspects of the trailer which would help to
maintain the budget while arranging for props. This would allow me to keep it
cost-effective. Being the creator of the story, she also knows what is needed
and will therefore have to do research on where she can get/purchase props. I
will also have to make sure that the props are efficiently used in the teaser
trailer.
12. Continuity
The person in charge of making sure the film is continuous as well as having no
mistakes.
As Jeet is the editor, it is only suited she has this role. However, before making
any final decisions, the rest of the group will assist as we may see something
that has managed to pass Jeet’s eyes.
13. Storyboard Artist/ Animator
The person who plans the visual layout of the film, hand drawn. They create a
digital version afterwards to demonstrate the visual layout through a different
medium.
Indiana has been chosen as she is very artistic and her drawings are more
realistic making it effective when communicating a visual aid of our shooting
script. Moreover, she has good knowledge of animation which would also help
her with the storyboard.
