The document provides details on pre-production for a video game project, including the target audience, art style, screenshot layouts, sound effects, and dialogue. The target audience is identified as white male teenagers aged 15-19 given the game's 15 rating and predominantly male characters. Screenshot layouts show ideas for a fight scene with two dialogue options and a text box at the bottom with save/load/settings options. Contingency planning and health and safety issues are also addressed.
2. Audience Profile
Target Audience
My target audience is going to be white teenage boys between the ages of 15-19, this is simply because the movies age rating is
15 so I thought it should appeal to the video game as well, the reason I chose males is because the game features predominantly
male characters.
I think the game will appeal more to people with a social status of middle class, this is because the location of the game is going to
be in a small village where normally middle class people live, also the main character in the game doesn’t have a successful job.
As the game, will be quite humours people who have a scene of humour will enjoy it more as they can laugh about what the
characters say while playing.
Thecast
Possiblyappearanceofmyaudience
Typical teenage boys like violent
video games that have quite a bit of
action in them, because of this I will
include a fighting scene where the
player gets to chose what they do
to their opponent, this allows them
to create their own outcomes.
Teenage boys also like to have freedom in
the game, my game will include multiple
choices they can chose from which will
give them multiple different outcomes so
they can write their own story.
3. Style sheet
GustavoViselnerart
TheLastNightgamestyle
For my video game I would like to draw in a similar
art style to Gustavo Viselner as I like the amount of
detail that he has put into them and I think it would
look great for my video game, however I will have to
make the art style a little more simplistic as I won’t
have enough time to draw multiple frames in
detailed pixel art.
As for my colour scheme I want to try and
keep them as close to the original colours
in the film as possible, this will make it
easy for me as I won’t have to spend time
finding multiple colours that go together.
4. Screenshot Layout 1
This was the idea I had for the fight scene that I want in my game, my idea is that when I big decision comes up
that will effect the game hugely the screen will be laid out like this, giving the play only two options instead of
four like all the other options. The player will selected one of the two options and a scene will play out for them
to watch, when the scene is over with there will be some dialog spoken by a character and the original four
options will appear on what to do next.
I got inspired by a game called ‘Detroit become human’, they have the same/similar effect in their game were
the screen gets split in two and the player is faced with two difficult choices that will effect the game.
5. Screenshot Layout 2
This is how I want my text boxes to look in the game, I want them at the bottom so the player can clearly see
the characters faces and I want them to have options in case they want to save the game, load up an old save
of the game or possibly change some of the settings while they are playing the game.
When the character has finished their dialog the text will disappear and the four options will appear, this is
where the character gets to chose either what they want to say in response to the character or it could even be
a certain action like walking to another room with a character.
6. Sound Effects
Sound Effects
I need to create a sound that sounds like glitched speaking like what they do in
Undertail, I can do this by testing out a sound and changing the pitch of it throughout
the speaking segments.
For my menu I’m going to try and recreate one of the songs out of the movie but an 8-
bit version.
For the fighting action like punching and kicking I want to re-create the classical 8-bit
punch noise, like so…

When you click on the options I want some kind of sort high or low pitched Nosie, I’m
not sure what yet but I’m sure I’ll find something in Garage Band or beep box
When the screen splits and the player is faced with a hard and important decision I
want the background music to become muffled so the player can focus more on the
decision then the music.
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Could have issues with the computer resulting
in my work being lost/deleted.
Make sure I back up more work on multiple
different devices such as my usb, home laptop
and online.
Forgetting to save work. Save my work every time I change something
or ass something to my PowerPoint.
Computer crashes. Keep on track of saving my work and making
copies of my work in case the crash does
something to whatever I was working on.
Losing usb stick. Make sure that when I put something onto my
usb stick I then put the work onto my home
laptop so my work isn’t lost.
Wi-Fi is down or very slow. If the Wi-Fi is down or slow I should work on
whatever doesn’t need access to the internet or
I could write in my note book and then copy it
onto the mac when the internet is back up.
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Spilling my drink on the computer. Don’t place my drink near the computer and
don’t drink over the computer.
Overheating the computer. Make sure I don’t have multiple taps open
loading, exporting or rendering different things
as it will cause the computer to over heat and
possibly spark or explode.
Neck and back pains. Make sure I am sitting correctly and I have a
good posture to avoid getting any pains.
Headaches. Drink plenty of water and eat enough, if I need
a break from the computer I can make notes in
my notebook to add later to my work or
potential ideas.
Editor's Notes
List age, gender, ABC1/C2DE etc (as appropriate).
Include images as appropriate to illustrate your target audience
Use https://yougov.co.uk/profileslite#/ for similar games to list audience desires/interests and how you will appeal to them through your game.
Explore colours and pixel art styles similar to what you want to produce. Discuss these elements in relation to why you chose them and where you may use them in your project. Go over as many pages as you need to.
Mock up of a potential design using the colours and sourced images. Alter this slide to make it appropriate for your planned product types. Use the content established in your style sheet to do this.
