1. EVALUATION QUESTION 3:
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
FROM YOUR AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK?
FOR THIS QUESTION I WILL BE DISCUSSING MY AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK AND HOW IT HELPED ME TO IMPROVE MY MUSIC
VIDEO, DIGIPAK AND POSTER. I USED VARIOUS SOCIAL MEDIAS
SUCH AS WHATSAPP, IMESSAGE, QUESTIONNAIRES AND FOCUS
GROUPS TO GATHER MY FEEDBACK.
2. The first steps of feedback I gathered were from my focus group where I showed a group who
were my target audience the song ‘Teenage dream’ and I asked them to note down various
ideas that came to mind when listening to the song. Many of the responses included a love
story with bright colours and they suggested the style of video I could use. Since there was
such a mixed response this helped me to decide that I would go for a hybrid style music
video. After my focus group I made a questionnaire which I handed out randomly and this is
where I developed the idea of using dolls. One of the responders answered the question ‘what
do you expect to see in the video when hearing the song?’ with ‘girl toy and boy toy acting
out lyrics’ which allowed me to develop this idea and turn it into my own.
Pictured below is all the types of feedback I used and WhatsApp was one of my main options
with individual messages and group chat so I can get feedback in greater quantities. I got
feedback for my final draft to ensure that it was done to the standard expected by my target
audience and I got positive feedback saying my lip sync was in time, my audience really liked
how I layered the images and they liked the originality of my idea.
I didn’t just receive positive comments I also received negative comments which I used to
improve certain areas, for example with my draft 1 I asked for feedback on WhatsApp and I
was told to line-up the first images with the beat which was really helpful and has made my
video look more professional. I also did this for the second draft and my target audience
explained how I should match up my lip sync with the lyrics.
3. HOW WILL FEEDBACK EFFECT THE WORK I
DO IN THE FUTURE?
After completing this process of making my music video I have learnt many things
including how important feedback is to the process of making a music video because
otherwise you will not be able to impress your target audience. In the future I will ask
more people for feedback because despite asking those in my target audience age
range I felt like asking more people will improve what I do.
I learnt that asking for audience feedback can be a time consuming process but it is
worth it when the final result achieves what your target audience expected. It can be
disheartening when you get negative feedback but once making the changes and the
feedback turns positive and it makes the process worth it in the end.
