2. Audience Feedback
Audience feedback is vital process when conducting my music video as it allowed me to
find out what was going well with my work
and how I could improve. It ensured that I
produced a high quality music video that will
appeal to my target audience.
My primary target audience is females between the ages of 13-24. My primary demographic is BC1 And C2, I feel that this is an
appropriate demographic as it is mainly middleclass, lower middles class and skilled working class that will be interested in listening to
pop genre music. I think that it would be unlikely for demographic A (higher middle class)
such as a lawyer or accountant to be interested
in pop music as in the pop industry people are
interested in having a laugh with their friends
out in social aspects. People of a demographic
of BC1 and C2 are seriously stereotyped especially C2 to go out and have fun with their
friends and drink is a social aspect. This
makes them appropriate to my target audience
as this is what pop genre is all about, itâs about
having fun.
I also have a secondary target audience, which
consist of females and males aged under 13
and over 24 years old. The demographic of
target audience would be D and E, this again
is down to the stereotypes of
pop genre, and it is targeted
at anyone who likes it as it
is such easy going music.
I chose my primary target
audience on the base of my
music video song âwe are
never getting back together
by Taylor swiftâ as it is about
a girl breaking up from a
relationship, this would be
targeted more at the younger generation as they could
relate it to their âfirst loveâ.
To collect my audience
feedback I used many different techniques along the
way, one of the ways that I chose to collect
this information is that I presented my music
videos to my class mates then allowed them to give
me feedback on what went well and improvements
that could be made. One of the improvements
that were given was lighting in some of my shots
as with my green screen the lighting is very bright
and clear whereas shots in my house were very
soft. To sort this problem out I will need to colour correct shots and brighten them up in Adobe
Premiere. Another improvement is that some or
my shots are long and they need to be cut down for
a better effect.Things that went well that my audience feedback said was my green screening. They
said that I done it well as I done it in the right way
to attract my audience and to catch their eye.
Not only did I ask them to give me feedback I
asked them to give me a level from 1-4 on how
professional they thought it was. I feel that this
kind of audience feedback was effective because it
allowed me to view everyoneâs opinions and what
they actually thought about on paper. Having the
information on paper meant that I would be able
to go back to it at any time and make sure that I
made to corrections that they think would make
my music video better and more professional.
With the questions that I asked I used open and
closed questions to get a variety of different answers, meaning I could get one word answers
which is Quantative data and then long descriptive
answers which is qualitative data.
Knowing that
my music video was going
to be seen by
anyone on
YouTube and
vimeo did
mean that
I was going
approach my
video in a
different way,
I wanted to
make sure
that what I
created was
something
people wanted to see. To find out what people
wanted to see is I went and asked people what
kind of things that they enjoyed and like, this
helped me decide on what I was going to add
to my music video.
Furthermore, not only did I get audience
feedback from my classmates I got feedback
from various media teaches, students outside
of school and adults. Most of the audience
feedback that I got was from my target audience but I also collected audience feedback
from people who werenât, as this meant I could
see if it appealed to them too meaning that I
could bring my target audience to a wider age
spread. The information that I got from people
that were not my target audience is that they
enjoyed the music video but said it was targeted more at the younger generation as it was
a young breakup. To a certain extent I agree
with this as it was my aim to target the younger generation as I feel that they will be able to
relate to this more than people over the age of
24, as people between the age of 13-24 is when
most girls discover their first break up.
Once I had done my first drafts for all three
products (music video, magazine advert and
digipak) I asked people on Facebook to message me their views. This is where I gathered
very important information about my house
style, as many people asked to see my images
linked together from all my digipak photos
and the photos on my poster. Taking this into
account, I interpreted a theme within all of my
images, I done this by adding the same effect
to all my images to make sure that they all
look linked together.
I couldnât help but think that some people
might not be the target audience of my products. This forced me to believe that receiving
feedback in this way was not entirely effective,
as some views and opinions were posted by
people who were not in fact my actual target
audience, therefore confusing my decisions.
All the feedback that I have gained from my
audience has seen to be very effective as it
has allowed me to make improvements on my
music video to make it look more professional
and keep my audienceâs attention for the whole
duration of the song. With the improvements
given I acted upon them by brightening some
parts of my video on premiere, also I re-filmed
a few bits to make them look more effective and
mix up the clips a bit.
