Alfie Bradbury used audience feedback throughout the creation of their music video project to ensure it effectively targeted their intended audience and genre. They conducted initial questionnaires with the general public and their target demographic of 18-22 year old males to inform their ideas. After creating a first cut, they held a focus group with peers who confirmed the video accurately represented the house music genre. Based on feedback, Alfie made changes before completion. They also incorporated audience suggestions to use screenshots from the video in their ancillary poster and digipak designs to clearly connect the pieces. In the end, feedback confirmed the final project cohesively targeted the intended target and genre.
3. The main reason as to why and how I used
audience feedback for my final product is to
create a successful music video which is very
easily identifiable and memorable and that is
effectively suits the genre for my target audience
and if it didn’t then how could I improve or
change the concept to make it effective.
After I had finished my product I showed a small
focus group the music video and asked them
specifically if they think that the product gives
them what they expect from the genre whether
that be the style, narrative, mise-en-scene etc.
4. During the planning stage I used a large amount of
audience feedback in order to gain ideas for my project
and to gain feedback about the ideas I already had and
how they can be improved in order to create the best
project possible.
Initially, I started off my research by using questionnaires
which I created for both the general public and my specific
target audience (male, 18-22 years of age) to answer so I
could gain an idea of what codes and conventions they
expect in a music video of my chosen genre which is
House music. Having a separate questionnaire solely for
my target audience allowed me to fine tune my ideas and
my project so that is would be most successfully with said
target audience and they would enjoy watching it.
5. As mentioned, I had a specific target audience
which I aimed to attract my video to which is a
male audience who are approximately ages
between 19 and 22 years of age. The reason this
relates to my audience feedback is because,
during a short focus group, I showed a group of
my peers my final finished project and asked
them specifically what they think the audience is
and why they believe it is the audience they said.
The first question I asked the group after I have
shown them the whole video is what do they
think the genre is and if my video is an accurate
representation of said genre and if not then how
could it be varied/ changed to make it more
representative.
6. During the creation of my ancillary tasks (a poster and a digipak
to go with the song) I used a large amount of audience feedback
in order to make sure my products were as effective as possible
and that my target audience were easily able to identify that they
were related to each other without looking at the title and the
other writing. A large portion of my feedback suggested the idea
that I use screenshots from the video as the backgrounds for my
digipak and poster in order to make them immediately relatable
if the viewer had previously watched my music video and that is
would be easier as I wouldn’t have to create my own images to
use as the backgrounds.
According to the feedback I received after I had finished the
ancillary tasks my audience believed that the mixture of the
three tasks were very effective and that they all supported each
other as the poster advertised the digipak, and the digipak was
the album which my music video backing song was from, and
they all had photos screenshotted from the music video
