Question 3 - What
have I learnt from my
audience feedback?
How I collected my results
I created my survey, on a site called ‘Survey Monkey’, this is
a free online site where you can design and make a
questionnaire to interview your peers. You can change the
layout, as to how your audience answers, anything from a
drop down number box to a multiple choice question.I
chose to send my questionnaire on the school emailing
system (Microsoft Outlook). I send it to students from year 9
to year 13. This is because they were in the range of my
target audience and I thought that I would get sensible
responses and nothing too immature, which I feel I would
have got if I had posted the link on social media.
How old are you?
The first question I asked was very
simple, this is because I wanted to to get
a general idea of who I was interviewing.
If I was to make the questionnaire
completely fair I would have asked exactly
the same amount of people from the
same age range, but this was the closest I
could get. These results were still helpful
because the people who answered where
definitely in my target audience range.
Did you enjoy my video?
This was another general question to know if
my video appealed to my target audience. I
was relieved to find out that most of them did
like it! This meant that the rest of the
questions, would have quality feedback and
not just unhelpful answers saying that they did
not like the video.
Did you understand the
storyline of my video?
When I first thought of the idea for my video, I found it very
hard to come up with how I was going to portray the
storyline which needed to show a vision in which years of
time passed by. So to make sure that my audience
understood this I used short cuts for my vision. As proof that
I had portrayed the storyline the right way, the answer from
most of my votes was yes! I couldn’t be happier. The
narrative of my video works!!
Did you find my magazine
advert physically
appealing?
After that I asked if they found magazine advert
physically appealing. I asked this question because I
wanted to know if my vintage theme would draw my
audience in. Vintage clothing is in fashion now ‘what
goes around comes around’ So this is the reason why
I originally thought my poster would successfully
attract the attention of my potential target audience.
The results came back successful and backed up my point of
vintage being eye catching. However I did get some negative feedback
which was unhelpful and I ignored it.
Does my DigiPak and
advert have a strong link
with the video?
When creating my DigiPak and poster I needed an image
that could be branded so that there was a direct link
between my video, DigiPak and poster, almost like a logo.
The image would act as a key signifier for the song.
I asked my audience whether they felt that there was a
strong link between the three products and I was pleased
that a large majority said that they thought there was a
strong link between the video, DigiPak and poster.
Do you think the song
suits/fits with the video?
In a good music video, the visuals should help to portray the
lyrics, this was part of Goodwin’s theory. I asked my target
audience if they felt that my video and lyrics fitted well
together. In the results 28% of people asked said that there
was not a good match between the lyrics and visuals which
I found very surprising.
I felt that it was likely that they had not had a good
understanding of the lyrics in the first place. In all 70% said
that there was a good match between the lyrics and the
visuals leading me to conclude that overall my video was
successful.
How professional do my
video look?
 In my question asking people
whether they felt that the
video looked professional on
a scale of 1-10, a high
majority voted it on a scale
between 8 and 10. This result
was pleasing as obviously my
aim had been to make it look
as professional as possible.
This means my video does
appeal to my intended
audience.
Would you share the video
with your peers? if so how?
I asked this question because I wanted to know
whether having seen the video, my viewers would
consider it interesting enough to share online or
spread it via word of mouth. Most of them answered
that they would like to share the video with their
peers to social media. I further asked them to
specify which network they would share it on. Most
of them answered Facebook and a small proportion
said Twitter. If this was a real media product this
would then entice viewers to buy some of the other
album artwork or possibly check out other songs by
the artist online via YouTube, Spotify or some other
music website (sequential viewing).
If they were to see the video, they would have probably liked similar
things on Facebook or follow similar people on another social media
websites, for example, other up and coming artists or people who may
have done a collaboration with this artist, for example Tyler Ward.

Do you read any
magazines? Which ones?
I asked this question as my advert, was going to be
placed in a magazine. The magazine I originally
thought that it would be placed in was one like the
NME. This magazine includes loads of articles about
indie musicians that are up and coming. This would
have been perfect for my choice of artist. The genre
of the music that I chose is indie/pop. Fans of indie
genre would normally read this magazine, so I
thought this would be perfect.
To my surprise most of my target audience didn’t
read many music magazines, this maybe because it
is a form of old media and they would rather browse
social media for this information because it is
convenient and free, rather than travelling to a
supermarket and speeding a few pounds on a
magazine.

Would they be interested in buying any other
products from the artist, if so, how would they
find out about other work?
After watching my video most of my audience said they would have been
interested in checking out other work by this musician and possibly buying an
album. I furthermore found out that they would use social media to find out
other information/products by the artist. Facebook and YouTube were the
most popular outlets used by my target audience. These results prove my
point of my audience being part of audience 2.0 and use a converge device
to view the music video, advert and DigiPak.

Any Improvements?
At the end of my questionnaire I asked my target audience if they had any suggestions for improvements.
One person said that they thought there could be a bit less focus on the dancing and more on the narrative. I felt
that this was a good suggestion, however In my research I saw many videos which went backwards and forwards
from performance to narrative. Which was the effect I was trying to create. The ones featuring a dancer had about
the same length of time on the performance as my video.
 Another interesting suggestion was to have more contrast on the black and white. I did not agree with this
because I felt that the filter was just right.
 One person questioned the quality of the camera however I was happy with the quality of the shots. I had also
spent a long time on the accuracy of the timing of my cuts, so that they matched the beat of the song which
was another suggestion given.
 Another person suggested that I use less filters on the poster, however I feel that the filters gave a vintage
effect which was intended to match the old fashioned train in the shoot. I was happy with the size and type of
my poster as I felt it suited a magazine advert for which it was intended to be.
