CRL Manager of Engineering for the Crossrail Central Section for the Railway Systems
engineering function
To lead, direct and manage the CRL Systems Engineering Managers who deal with Route
Systems, Signalling & Platform Screen Doors, Communication Systems and Bulk Power.
To lead and manage the mitigation of, and report on, the critical design interfaces identified in
the CRL Critical Interface Matrix to mitigate, through the Engineering Managers, all unresolved
Integration issues.

Co-ordinate, identify and manage relevant engineering and technical risk across the Central
Section works
Form and maintain an engineering management team to provide the breadth of knowledge and
management of Railway Systems in the design and build environment.
Support the Head and Technical Assurance and Head of Discipline for Railway Systems to
develop and implement a robust design assurance/acceptance process for the designs delivered
by the supply chain.
Provide leadership and direction of the Engineering Design Management functions being carried
out by the Contractors designers and their supply chain
Working with the Sector Directors and Project Managers, manage and monitor the design & build
contractor performance with relation to their design and construction programmes.
Coordinate, facilitate and manage the interfaces, including 3rd party access and approvals
between the delivery contractors and other parties both internal and external
Manage workflow, supervising and tracking progress and managing and maintaining change
control process
Initiate and support value management/engineering initiatives
Ensure the appropriate level of support is provided to CRL liaison with external stakeholders
Establish and maintain the engineering management team structure to provide an effective
interface with construction activities and other CRL functions
To pursue a structured approach to the effective management of risk as set out in CRL’s risk
management policy.

At GRIP 4 my team achieved acceptance on first submission from NR for over 95% of
our contract deliverables. This was one of the principal reasons that BB secured the
GRIP Stage 5 – 8 Works to the value of approx £130M.
Member of Joint Management Team. which secured certification to BS11000
