EXPERIENCE WITH NETWORK RAIL PRIOR TO RETIREMENT
Development and implementation of two projects in the West Midlands Signalling Centre to provide a
facility to house the control equipment for the West Midlands area (cost circa £9m), and the
development of the Walsall & Cannock Lines Signalling Renewal project (cost circa £80m)
respectively.
Based in Manchester for the four years prior to leaving Network Rail I delivered the Manchester ROC
Signalling Fit Out and was appointed to the role of Senior Project Manager for the Liverpool to
Weaver ‘bubble’ project management team in November 2014. This role covered all IP Signalling
projects on the Liverpool Lime Street to Weaver Junction route and the development of a robust plan
to deliver the works as part of an integrated plan.
Apart from my duties as a Senior Project Manager I assisted the Programme Manager, North in
developing the portfolio of works in the North West and been involved in the strategic planning
process. I also deputised for the Programme Manager including fulfilling the role for a period of two
months between incumbents of the role.
I fulfilled the role of CDM Coordinator’s Representative’s Agent on the Walsall & Cannock Lines and
other projects, and more recently have been assessed as competent for and undertaken the Principal
Designer’s Representative role for the IP Signalling Northern team. As such I have a very good
understanding of the CDM regulations.

2. EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT WITH NETWORK RAIL
January 2001 to October 2005
ATKINS RAIL LIMITED
PROJECT MANAGER. Responsible for the management of design and implementation teams from
inception to completion in order to meet customer requirements in accordance with all legislation and
standards, and in line with the commercial rules of WS Atkins.
Projects include:
• 7 months secondment to Network Rail as Signalling Project Development Manager for the
West Midlands Signalling Centre (£11m) and Water Orton Corridor Resignalling (£81m)
• South Manchester Design (£500k) as the Project Manager and
• Rugby Resignalling (£115m) as the Engineering Integration Manager, responsible for
Configuration Management, Change Control and Systems Integration within the Rugby
Alliance.
The above Projects required a good appreciation of the stakeholders, their requirements and
objectives.
April 1994 to January 2001
RAILTRACK PLC MIDLAND ZONE PROJECT DELIVERY
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER. Responsible for the delivery of projects to time, cost and
specification, and within the constraints of Railtrack Standards, and legislation applying to Safety and
the Environment. Provided total management of the contracts for developing and implementing
projects.
Projects include:
• Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (£6.3m) as the Project Manager responsible for
delivery of the on-site signalling, telecommunications, civil, electrical and plant works,
• European Passenger Services Route Clearance (£12m) as the Project Manager for delivery of
the signalling and OLE works,
• Corby – Manton Resignalling (£2.0m) as the Project Manager for delivery of all design and
construction activities,
• Y2K Compliance Demonstrations (£50k) as the Project Manager for this fast track Project and
• Derby Life Extension (£6.5m) as Project Manager for the delivery of renewals and upgrades to
Signalling equipment.
The above Projects included development of stakeholder requirements into specifications to
contractors for the works.
July 1992 to April 1994

of the Civil Engineering elements of the Project,
• Class 323 Route Clearance (£3.0m) as Project Manager for the delivery of all elements of
work associated with the Project and

Project.
