2. Step 1: Check for Responsiveness
Tap the victim
lightly and ask if the
person is ok
3. Step 2: If No Response Call 9-1-1-1
- Call 9-1-1-1
- If the unconscious person is
face-down, roll face-up,
supporting the head, neck and
back in a straight line.
4. Step 2: If No Response Call 9-1-1-1
- If the person responds,
acquire consent and CALL
9-1-1 for any life-threatening
conditions.

head to toe and ask questions
to find out what happened
5. Step 3: OPEN THE AIRWAY

This allows you to open the
victim’s airway for breathing
6. Step 4: CHECK FOR BREATHING
- CHECK for breathing for no
more than 10 seconds.
- Occasional gasps are not
breathing
7. Step 5: Pump
If the victim is not breathing
normally, coughing or
moving begin chest
compressions.
Push down the center of
the chest 2 inches 30 times.
Pump hard and fast at the
rate of at least 100/minute,
faster than one per second
8. Step 6: Blow
Tilt the head back and lift
the chin. Pinch nose and
cover the mouth with yours
and blow until you see the
chest rise. Give 2 breaths.
Each breath should take 1
second
Continue with 30 pumps
and 2 breaths until help
arrives
9. Step 7: Quickly Scan for Bleeding
- Give CARE based on
conditions found
- IF the victim has a pulse, but
is not breathing – use AED to
analyze heart rhythm and
follow AED Procedures
- If BREATHING-Maintain an
open airway and monitor for
any changes in condition
