Warp Films is a local Sheffield production company that focuses on thought-provoking stories over special effects, which fits the film's emphasis on characters. However, Warp Films' audiences differ and distribution through an exterior company could reduce profits. Working Title is owned by Universal and has larger budgets up to £35 million, allowing more creative freedom and possibly better actors/effects. As a subsidiary of Universal, Working Title also handles its own distribution. However, Working Title prioritizes passion projects that are riskier, so the film may not be made or delayed.

Distribution Media Warp Films Working Title
1. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
2. A production and distribution media company that may be interested in or project is Warp
Films. Warp Films are a Sheffield based production company, which is useful as this means they
are a local company. They may be interested in our product as Warp Films often focus on
though provoking story telling and characters instead of very special effects driven films such
as ‘71 and This is England. This is good for us as our film is mostly focussed on the story and
characters instead of awing the audience with beautiful special effects sequences. However,
the audiences of Warp Films’ productions are often very different than our chosen audiences.
With the film being set in the near future and the biggest differences in the time periods being
smaller technological advancements, this is still possible with the small budgets Warp Films
typically works with. However, working with Warp would mean that the film would be
distributed using an exterior company. This may cost money and decrease the chances of a
profit which would already be low due to the lower production values and lesser known actors
that would e involved with the production.
3. Working Title are a British production company owned by Universal, a much larger production
company in the US and a part of the Big Six. This means that many of Working Title’s production
often have a larger budget. A production with a budget of up to £35 million has all the creative
freedom it needs meaning that there would be no studio executives interfering with production
process. This is useful because it means that our production would have a larger budget than if it
was created with Warp Films allowing us to create almost anything we wanted within budget
meaning that more special effects could be used and possibly better known actors, increasing
the chances of success. Additionally with Working Title being a subsidiary or Universal, no
outsourcing would be required for distribution, increasing the chances of success. Working Title
have also worked on films of a similar genre and audience creating films such as Tinker Tailor
Soldier Spy, a spy thriller, and also Science Fiction and action comedies such as Paul and Hot Fuzz,
films that have a similar audience to our own. Working Title have a policy in terms of what films
they create. Making 2 passion projects which are very risky, 2 mainstream films and 1 that will
definitely make money. Our film may considered riskier due to the more niche genre meaning
that it may be a while before the film is made or may not be made at all.
