2. What Does a Production Company Do?
• A production company is essentially the main task force behind getting the
filming up and running. They are more often than not involved with the
budget, scripting, scheduling, getting the actors/director needed for the
movie, as well as helping with the marketing, distribution and post
production. For these various reasons the production company is an
essential part of the movie making process. With the production company
being so heavily involved with movie we believe that it’s crucial to have a
production company who is highly acclaimed and would be able to produce
the best possible outcome for our horror thriller opening.
• Production companies are often part of much larger conglomerate,
therefore meaning they have a parent company or a partner to help them
with the process. However there are independent production companies
which are much smaller, meaning they get more of a say.
3. What Production Company Will we use?
• We decided that it would be best to use Dark Castle Entertainment as
our production company. We believe that this production company
would be best to help us produce our film as they are known for the
production of their horror thriller films, several of these films being:
Orphan, House on Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts and many more.
Although they are not a blockbuster film production company, they
have a huge gross income between their 19 films coming to a total of
708 million USD, showing their success in this genre. One reason why
we picked a small production company over a large one is due to the
fact that we have more choice when it come to the making of the film
where as when working with a larger company we would have little
say
4. Our Company Logo and Name
• Our production company is called FrightSight production. We chose
this clever play on words as we best believe that it represents what
our company is about, creating fright through the power of sight. We
aim to create films and visuals of the horror thriller genre only
creating a name for our selves so us as a company are well known for
our frightful horror films.
• We decided to use the logo we did as it best represents our company.
The chair symbolises that we’re production company; the font is in a
horror style suggesting we produce horror films and the black and
white theme further adds to the idea that we produce horror films.
5. Distributor
• A film distributor is responsible for the marketing of the film. They are
very different to a production company as their main focus is the
finance of the film and getting it out to the public. They deal with
DVDs, release date, cinema listings, adverts, posters etc. We
researched many potential distributors and decided that 20th Century
Fox would be best. We believe this because they successfully
distribute a diverse selection of films and are known as industry
leaders. They're known for successfully disturbing thrillers before
such as the Revenant, Dead pool, Taken and many more.
6. Title
• The first title that will be shown will be our company name –
FrightSight Productions
• Following this will be our associates Hammer Film Production
• After the title of our (Hylophobia) will be shown
• We decided not include the production team names as it would ruin
the horror thriller ambience and wasn’t essential to include.
7. Money
• For our film we plan to get the funds to complete the film in many ways. One way
in which we plan to do this is through creating a GoFund Me page. Here we plan
to get small contributions from fans who approve of the teaser trailer. As we will
only get minimal funds from this method we also plan to do a test run, similar to
the film Whip Lash. We plan to produce an extended trailer between 10/15
minutes long to try and grab attention from potential producers and directors. If
we’re fortunate enough to be able to attract a top distributer we plan to use their
high budget to create our thriller.
• The film Whip Lash did exactly this. The reviews the film received from critics
soon turned the film into must watch movie with huge interest. Considering the
film created all the money needed in just 10 minutes of the showing suggests
that this is the way forward to generate the funds needed for our horror thriller.
This method would be the optimal method simply because we’re such a small
company, generating money any other way would be very difficult.
8. Selling Point
We’ve decided the main selling point of our horror thriller film is the
clever plot twist within. The plot twist shocks the audience and often
gets them questioning certain parts of the film, adding to the mystery
and interest.
We believe that this would be the selling point as many films similar to
ours have been extremely successful due to their plot twist, a good
example of this is Shutter Island starrin g Leonardo Dicaprio.
Another selling point is it is an English produced film. This would
generate mass hype for film as the English are known for their
production of horrors.
9. Netflix and Now TV
• Online streaming services such as Netflix or Now TV are becoming g an
extremely popular way to watch films due to their ease, comfort and
expense. These sites allow for the audience to watch the latest, HD films
from the comfort of their own home, for a relatively cheap price (roughly
£6.99).
• Streaming our film on Now TV would allow for millions of people to watch
our film, although our film would struggle to get a large audience due to
long list of blockbusters that the site has available to watch. However,
Netflix has many low budget films available to watch, allowing for our film
to have more of chance against other competitors. As well as this, Netflix
has millions upon millions of subscribers. This would allow our film to be
available to a larger market, allowing for more views. For this reason we
decided that Netflix would be the best streaming site to use for our film.
