2. What type of media institution might
distribute your media product
• “Hanger Hill” would be distributed most likely by an independent film
maker or company due to firstly the budget. The budget would be quite
small and therefore the actors and actresses would be ones not that well
known. For example a similar film to it would be “Ex Machina”. The
production team would also choose low budget locations and most likely
not go abroad just due to the costs. Furthermore the film would not most
likely not get distributed into many cinemas and become globally successful,
however the film could get worldwide recognition if it was highly rated. One
distribution company we may use would be ‘Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’.
• Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have distributed films like ‘Poughkeepsie Tapes’ a
feature film that we took a huge amount of inspiration from. MGM is an
american distributor and we believe that we could easily access an american
audience through them.
3. Comparison of ‘Poughkeepsie
Tapes’ to ‘Hanger Hill’
• In ‘Poughkeepsie Tapes’, the overall style and found footage element is very
similar to our film. The dark elements involved and grainy footage are very
similar. From the start to finish the footage is blurry and the style similar,
however our film isn’t as graphic and in my opinion, ‘Hanger Hill’ has more
substance and plot compared to ‘Poughkeepsie Tapes

• Comparing this to ‘Hanger Hill’ from 0:25-1:34 our footage is similar with
cuts back and forth from the detective to the found footage being the only
difference. I believe an american audience would like this style off film if
they enjoyed ‘Poughkeepsie tapes’. You can see this comparison below as

• Furthermore an independent film wouldn’t have access to mainstream
advertising and marketing tools again due to the budget. Our film would
most likely be marketed through social media such as Instagram, Facebook
or even Tinder. Posters and Billboards may also be used if the budget could
stretch for it. What’s good about social media is that it is free and can
benefit the film with no money being spent. Furthermore trailers produced
wouldn’t be as high quality as Hollywood trailers again due to budgeting. An
example off a production company that “Hanger Hill’ would use could be
“Film 4”, this is a British independent film production company.
5. Film 4 Production Company
• “Film4 is a British digital television channel available in the United Kingdom,
owned and operated by the Channel Four Television Corporation, that
screens films. It offers films in standard definition free of charge. To access
the high definition version of the channel, viewers must have a paid
subscription with Virgin Media or Sky. The channel is also available in the
Republic of Ireland on Virgin Media, Sky and Eir Vision and in Switzerland on

• Film 4 backs a lot off low budget films which would be perfect for what our
film is. They often go for the depth of the film rather than how much money
it can make, and produce films with a good plot. One off these films being
‘Ex Machina’.

• ‘Ex Machina’ is similar to our film because it is on a low budget and is all
about the plot. It does not have expensive special effects and really focuses
on how well made the film is. ‘Ex Machina’ won awards at the ‘Oscars’ and
was widely renowned as a great film.
