1. Ideas about Representation
In my video the main protagonist is a white male, aged around late teens, early 20s
(unspecified). He is a working class male, dreaming of bigger things. Through the
construction of reality, I aim to make a realistic representation, through clothes,
camera shots/angles and movement. I will represent age and class. I aim to
represent age, for teens and early 20s, because these ages fall in my main target
audience. Therefore it will be what they want to see and if I make a realistic
representation they would be able to relate to the emotions in the music video.
The class I will be representing is working class. Throughout the video you will know
the main protagonist is a working class citizen because it will show him working in his
manual labour job. However, he is trying to get out of the working class, through his
talent in music. His talent for music will help represent his aspirational
characteristics to be successful in life and that he is not happy just working through
life, doing what he doesn’t want to do. Also because he still works hard at his job and
music, represents he will work hard at anything to achieve.
I will also be representing age through the main protagonist (the artist). Some
aspects of class representation will also help to represent age. Representation of age
will oppose the majority of society’s view of the majority of young people today, that
they are lazy and have low aspirations, whereas the protagonist in the video is
representing the people who work hard to achieve their dreams. I will be
representing age through the protagonist’s mannerism, their positioning in the
video, and the clothes they wear. I will also be representing age as older people
being more domineering over younger people, as when an older person is in the
video the camera angles will have the older person higher than the younger ones eye
level.
