2. Mood Boards:
COVER PAGE
For my front cover I would like to have a hand
drawn image related to the topic these are a few
examples where this has been used before …
Photography
In the zine I will try and include my own
photography, using old vintage editing to make the
images seem older. But also a collection of cut outs
from magazines as I would like to try and make my
Zine as DIY as I can.
Within the zine I am going to try and include a couple of
cartoons inside weather them just being related to an article
or small comic strips themed around the genre maybe a
poster dependent on time .
I want my zine to be made like they used to make them, with
everything being hand made or found in magazines, there fore
will need to look through several examples to see how they did
them and how they looked.
3.
4.
5. This page is a collection of albums and
gig posters for various bands in my
genre, this helps give my an idea of
what design I can use. Majority of the
albums and posters include
illustrations as the main design but
also majority in black and white.
6. Mood Boards:
Fonts
When it comes to making
my zine most of the smaller
parts of text in the adverts
and posters, they will be
hand written in various
fonts.
These are examples of fonts I
find appropriate to my genre
but also represent a
handwritten style.
Since I would like to stick to a more
homemade approach to the zine ,
when it comes to writing my articles
and more bulk text I wont have
hands to a typewriter like they had
therefore will have to create the
effect using a font on the pc.
Also due to my theme being a genre
of punk I can include many fonts
related to that sub-culture.
Colours
For my zine I will be making mine by hand and it may
in fact include colour in the first copy, however I
would like to photocopy mine and make the whole
thing in black and white to give it a older effect and
more realistic.
Also with the images I will be including within the
zine they will also be in black and white however I
would like to use the threshold effect rather then the
standard black and white, this is more suited to my
genre and the style but also adding gradient to this
makes it look older and the photocopying has slowly
took away from the detail.
7. For my cover page I would like to try
and incorporate the folk punk symbol.
I would like to title of the
zine in a separate box
layered over the main
image of the page
I will also include a hand
drawn image on the page,
either of a musician in a
cartoon style, or one like
this with a whole load of
bands logos in-between the
rip.
This will include a
brief description
on the zine, why
id chose this and
the contents.
I will be including a
article by myself written
on a independent record
label, who are massively
involved in folk-punk and
have mainly bands under
there wing.
10. Pagination:
A plan for the pages of your book. What will be the cover? What will be the running order? What will go in it? How many
pages for each item? This is important to get right if you want it to print correctly later on. It will also help you plan the space
you have.
Page content
cover The cover page including an illustration
Page one/ editors notes This page will include a small section about the zine and why I
have chosen to make this, also a small advert for a album
underneath.
Page 2 Plan it-X article I will write my own article on an independent record label that
runs in the folk punk scene housing many of the top bands
such as ghost mice and ramshackle glory.
Page 3 and 4 double page spread My double page spread will be entirely based on my favorites
albums and the ones I would recommend to people getting
into the music, giving a brief explanation of the album, the
track list and why I like it.
page 5 a collection of adverts and posters I will include posters for gigs and adverts for bands, groups
and new albums, trying to make the majority my self using
Photoshop and hand drawing.
Page 6 I will make this on the beliefs and philosophy of the
movement including lots of punk aspects but also typical
styles, lifestyles and views in this culture.
Page 7 and 8 Will include my interview and a review but also a closing
paragraph for the zine.
11. Production schedule:
You have 3 weeks to complete your book along with any improvements. You need to plan this. What will you be doing each
week? How long should you spend on each task? How will you know if you are head or behind schedule?
Week 1 Week 2 Week 3
Week one I will spend the
majority of my time
writing up all that I need
for the zine, this is as my
zine will include lots of
text including 2 articles,
editors piece, interview
and a review.
I will spend week two
drawing the pieces I need
for my zine including the
cover and posters but also
whatever other little clip
art I may have through the
zine.
I will use this week to edit
my photos and put all the
pages together and in
order, mainly completing
what the zine needs.
