This case presentation describes a 10 day old male infant who presented with hurried respiration and bluish discoloration of the lips. The infant's history included an uneventful pregnancy, birth and postnatal period until 10 days of age. On examination, the infant had a weak cry, poor activity and tachycardia. Investigations showed elevated white blood cell count and C-reactive protein. During the hospital course, the infant remained obtunded with shallow breathing and multiple episodes of apnea requiring stimulation. Neuroimaging was normal. An echocardiogram was also normal.
