Do the Innocents Become Wild?
Nowadays, drug abuse is rampant and popular in the Philippines; not just to adults but also
to young people. While there are no hard-fast statistics available, it is estimated that as many as
60,000 young people in the Philippines are dealing with drug addiction. The majority of drug users
are students with marijuana as a drug of choice.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking on a possibility of conducting mandatory drug
testing on students.
This campaign aims to help youth to stop using illegal drugs and to suppress drug pushers who
use young children as couriers. In this case, the parent must give their permission first before the
students can undergo the tests. The primary purpose of drug testing is not to punish students, but
prevent drug abuse and help the current generation become drug-free.
Critics of the program point out that it’s against the constitutional rights of unreasonable
“searching and seizure“ wherein the usual drug testing, the urine will be tested is an act of search
and seizure.” However, according to “G.R. No. 157870- Supreme Court of the Philippines” the
students of secondary and tertiary schools, shall be pursuant to the related rules and regulations
as contained in the schools student handbook, and with notice to the parents, undergo random
drug testing.
Drug testing should be obligatory for all students at least once a year. We need drug testing
in schools to protect and prevent youth from using drugs and for the drug-free country that we
aim. There is right from wrong and letting students undergo drug testing is just right. If the result is
negative then good and if the result is positive, the school administration deals with this individual
case and parent can help their child.
This testing will educate and liberate students to live a healthy and productive lifestyle for a
safety educational ability, and general well-being youth of our country—are needed to ensure a
drug-free learning environment across the nation.
“Finally, the dragon learns to stop from blowing its fire.”
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan welcomed last November 2, Wednesday the seeming
improvementintherelationshipbetweenthePhilippinesandChina,startingwiththedemilitarization
of the disputed Panatag Shoal.
“Even if China won’t leave Panatag Shoal, we are glad about the news that since October 16,
our fisher folk have been able to go there without being harassed by Chinese ships,” the senator
said in a statement to the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Wednesday.
While the Filipino fishermen had been allowed to fish in the disputed area, Chinese Coast
Guard ships were still reportedly seen guarding the shoal. This is still a sign of the foreign country’s
continuous ego to conquer this territory, but again, we must be grateful to see a little spark of
consideration from the Chinese government.
However, ”even neither parties have dropped their sovereignty claims on the shoals, we are
happy that the place has been de-militarized and the relationship between Philippines and China
seems better,” the senator said. Pangilinan though asserted that the Philippines has the exclusive
rights to fish in the area, citing the United Nations-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)
at ‘The Hague’, the Netherlands’ decision last July.
“Our country continues to hold its pride that the said territory is definitely owned by the
Philippines and it will not show any sign of cowardice from the possessive dragon.” Pangilinan said
the shoal, which is about 230 kilometers from Zambales, is within the country’s Exclusive Economic
Zone, or 370 kilometers from the shore.
As the undeniable proof is presented, the Panatag Shoal should be declared under Philippines.
“According to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which the International Arbitral
Tribunal in July upheld, we have the exclusive rights to fish here,” he said.
“We need to care for the sea’s offerings. We need to care for fishers who risk their lives to earn
a living and give us fish, crabs, lobsters, and other sea wealth for our dinner table. This is everyone’s
duty, the Chinese’s and the Filipinos,” the senator added. Every citizens’ prayer is that peace will
spring between the two countries and the ongoing dispute will finally come to an end.
Pangilinan also expressed hope that a bill that seeks to establish a Department of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources would soon become a reality “so that our treasures from the sea and our
fisher folk are cared for.”
For the mean time, we should not be too confident because China already showed calmness.
Remember, the dragon isn’t sleeping; its eyes are still wide open, thinking when it should blow its
fire again and where it’ll be against from.

Show Justice or No Justice?

Show justice or no justice? President
RodrigoDuterte’s‘warondrugs’campaign,
started last June 2016. This campaign
aims to eliminate drug menace in the
Philippines. And also, to punish those
people who are connected with drugs.
Justoverhisfirst100daysaspresident,
more than just 2500 people were killed
and thousands more turn themselves to
authorities.
This campaign and alarming killing
cases caught a lot of attention and critics
especially to those organizations who
promotehumanrights.Thequestionnow
is “Does war on drugs really show justice
or no justice at all? “
Drug trade is really rampant in the
Philippines. Duterte’s promise to lessen
and eliminate drug trade and urged
people to “go ahead and kill” addicts
even if it would be too painful for their
families.
Human rights experts warned that
allegations of trafficking should go
through legal process and be tried in
court and not by gunmen. While some
said that extrajudicial killing cases must
stop, because some cases wasn’t really
sure if they’re punishing those who are
really connected with drugs or innocent
people.
Under Thaksin Shinawatra’s
leadership, Thailand’s 2003 ‘war on
drugs’ saw 2800 extrajudicial killings in
three months. Then, four years later,
an official report count that more than
half of the victims had no connection to
drugs. Thailand’s drug trade has proved
resilient. Justice means using law to fairly
judge and punish crimes and criminals. It
requires appropriate cases be filed and
that those proven to be accountable be
punished.
We are all one with the fight against
drugs, but extrajudicial killing will never
be the key. Let’s look deeper into these
cases and understand more. Engaging in
all-out war against drug is beyond the
power of government alone. If we aim
for better country--drug free country, we
should all be engaged and cooperate and
no one should die this way.
Today is an era of crisis. A crisis which
destroys us bit by bit yet, we find ourselves in
the middle of this uprising change. Therefore,
we must have a space to breathe in this midst
to where we must heal and shatter temporarily
the fearsome reality we face, in the medium of
art. Here is “The Artidote”.
“The Artidote” is a space for people to story
tell, empathize, bond and heal through art
which we can reach out in the most profound
social media site, Facebook. Right, it is a page
in Facebook created and curated by Jovanny
Varela-Ferreyra. He was the former in-charge
of another famous artistic page, “The Berlin
Art Parasites”. He believes that we’re currently
bombarded with the struggles that come with
life and that sometimes those are the only
things that people know. He said that there are
fortunate individuals that burn creative and
intellectual energy to show us another point
of view-and often a point of view makes all
the difference. Also, he was motivated by the
superficiality/distractions that social media is
seemingly pushing us towards; the pointless
news articles in the media, the unimportant
information so many of us share on this never-
ending feed. He wanted to bring something
refreshing into the feed.
The Artidote includes various posts; videos,
links and pictures that explicit an evoking art and
portraying deep self-definitions of emotions and
reveries. It attracts introverts with a big mouth
inside to shout out in the public. Sometimes,
the posts involve past experiences of followers
to share or relate with other’s thoughts.
Art is the visualization of our inner thoughts.
The posts of different forms of artwork, either
digital sketches or paintings, plus the quotes
from different books and people made up the
uniqueness of every meaning of the posts.
Again, we all face this fearsome downpour
of the changing reality happening now around
us. It was tasked in ourselves to find a healing
therapy in the midst of the harrowing waves
slamming in our souls. All in all, “the Artidote”
is a well-rounded page for all people who seek
free vaccinations against the intense pounding
of an upcoming change and crisis in our society.

“Hey, talk to me,” a person said. “Later,” the other
one replied while holding a phone.
Look around you. Try to remember the days
when our life is not revolving around social media.
Children are seen actively playing outside their
houses. Teenagers are freely chatting with their
friends personally over a cup of coffee. Libraries are
full of students gathering lots of information. Don’t
you miss those days when our life was screen-free?
Nowadays, lots of people became active users
of social media. The largest social networking site-
Facebook has now over 1.49 billion active users and
counting. This proves that social media really made
a huge impact to this generation.
It is no doubt that social media helped us in
a way. Families who are far from each other can
communicate easily. News and other informations
can be easily seen. In just one click, you can share
memories in your life forever. Making comments
about certain issues is just a piece of cake.

of sharing things and ideas but the thing is, people
got addicted over it. Even fake things that aren’t
essential are being posted. Also, some people are
taking advantage of it. Sadly, some people use social
media for bullying other people. This also affects the
altitudeofmanypeoplebecauseitistattooedontheir
mind that life without social media is like having air
around you but you’re not able to breathe it.
In some ways, social media creates gap between

the screens. On some families, talking to each other
personally about their feelings is becoming a burden
because others prefer to just use social media and
post it.
Well people, you are absolutely wrong about your
perception. We can live without social media. Sure, it
will be hard to adjust again without social media but
look at our past generation. They can still have fun
without social media.
Yes, social media is made to make our lives better.
People just better not be addicted to it. Imagine all
the positive outcomes if we are screen-free. Our time
won’t revolve on social media only but instead, we
can use our precious time doing things that will give
us pure joy.
Friends can talk to each other face-to-face.
Families can bond together without being interrupted
by the overuse of social media. Students can gain real
knowledge by really studying things through books.
There won’t be any fake news scattered around social
media. Lastly, people will have a real life and not just
a virtual life that they made out of using social media.
Explore the world. Step out of your comfort zone
and socialize without having to use your phones or
laptops. Appreciate the beauty that you can see
through reality. By the way, pictures look really great
on real photo albums and scrapbooks.
Look around you. See? Life without social media
is not so bad. People will just have to make a greater
use of it. The scenarios will be different and better if
we are screen-free.

I said to myself, softly, “I want to be your friend,”
she took a long breathe and whispered, “I have been
waiting the whole life for this.”
A few months ago, I would look in the mirror
and see sad pair of eyes. They would look at me
and I would drown. Then I’ll say to myself, “I’m not
beautiful, not even average. I’m just simply a flaw
in this whole wide world. A walking travesty and a
stupid catastrophe.”
At times, I would look at myself so low, not even
a bit proud of what I am. I don’t even know what
compliments are. I would cry myself to sleep, my
pillows catching my tears that speaks how I think
I’m never enough. I would read poems that would

devastate me instead of uplifting my spirit. I’ll listen
to sad songs and relate myself to them. I would look
at my classmate’s photos and compare myself to her.
It was crazy and stupid, I know.
Then at night, my sadness envelopes me, my
head is popped up by the monstrous thoughts that’s
heavier than my blankets.
But someone calmed the catastrophic storm in
me. Someone made me realize the importance of
accepting your flaws and curves. To look beyond my
soul and see the glow. To see my marks and scars as
part of me. I realized that my damaged petals made
me more beautiful than the other flowers. I learned
how to love myself.
With that, I can remember was, one day I woke
up. And when I looked at the mirror, I saw myself
shining. A different kind of shine that’s telling me I’m
beautiful, unique in my own way. The sad pair of eyes

I told myself I was beautiful.
So for the one who’s reading this, you’re
beautiful, you’re own kind of beautiful. Prettier

indestructible and gorgeous.

often do you tell them the

The disappointments you felt? How often do you

Teenage years is the years of confusion.

trying new things and end childish activities. It’s
hard but somehow the adventure is amazing. A

to figure the way out without anyone but yourself,
but of course that’s only what we think. We think
we’re alone in knowing ourselves, we forget that
we have our parents to guide us. We’re ashamed
of telling them what bothers us, until we don’t talk
to them anymore. We tend to hide and cast them
away in our lives, little do we know, we’re hurting
their feelings. We think that they don’t care when
all we do is shut the door. We’re scared of what they

will say, what they’ll react
when the truth is they will
understand. We forget the
small details, we forget
that they are our parents
and they will forever be. And when everyone turns
their back on us, they’ll open their arms to welcome
us with a hug.
“Talk to me,” was all they want to say. Talk to
them, why can’t we?
We cry on our pillows, biting the problems
lingering on our tongues, when we can cry inside
the warm embrace of our parents. We keep the
pain when we can tell it to them and seek for help.
We talk to our diaries when the truth is we can talk
to them.
Teenage years is the years of mistake, it’s okay
if we don’t talk to them, for now. We can always
change. We can always open our mouths and speak
to them. We can always talk to them. Every second,
every minute and every hour of our lives.
“Mom, Dad, I have a problem.”
“What is it child?” the father replied.
How many things can you learn in just three minutes? That’s a very short time, isn’t it? Well some
of you might think that learning life lessons in minutes isn’t possible, but the truth is, it is possible.
PAMALAKAYA. This is a three-minute film made by the students of Grade 10 – Special Science Class
for the entry of Navotas National High School in the 1st Navoteño Film Fest. This can be watched at the
official page of Navoteño on Facebook. Pamalakaya gained many likes and positive reactions. Based on
the comments, this is a must-watch film.
For Ryan (played by Arnie Peralta), life is like sailing through the seas. You only have two options
when you are at the middle of the sea. It is either you continue to face the consequences or go back to
the place you were before. Ryan is the eldest of the siblings, Mercy (played by Camila Sosito), Danny
(played byArcieMagtanong),and Tin-tin (played by Janna Anfernee Dela Cruz), which has issues regarding
mental health.
Although Ryan serves as the breadwinner of the family, he still continues to pursue his dreams by
working for their family and by studying very hard to have a good future. Facing a lot of challenges in
their lives, these people will strive just to have a good life.
While watching this film, viewers said that this gives them inspiration to study harder and to value
all the good things that they have. They also said that this film showed how our government try to
help citizens, by helping them augment the family’s income, support them with the necessities of life
(financially or emotionally), especially the education of their children through educational grants and
scholarships.
Truly, Pamalakaya is a very heart-warming film that will give you all kinds of emotions. May it be
happiness, anger, or sadness. This simply tells us that in life, many challenges are going to come your
way but it is always your choice whether you let it break you, or make you stronger.
So for those who haven’t watched this film yet, what are you waiting for? Grab your family and
friends and enjoy learning while watching this film. Let yourself experience the three-minute magic of
Pamalakaya.

When you hear ‘age doesn’t matter’ from someone,
what comes first to your mind? Of course, about love. A
15 year old boy is in love to a 35 year old woman or an 18
year old girl is in love to a 50 year old man. It’s so cliché. But
you know what? ‘Age’ is not only about love, sometimes, it
is about to someone’s dream, someone’s goal in life, and
someone’s achievement on his/her entire life.
Mrs. Ma. Concepcion Ibarra is a 60 year old woman.
She is a single mother and got pregnant while she’s on her
high school life the age of 15. She’s with her 4 children ages
44, 37, 30, and 19. She’s the black sheep of their family. A
wild woman, a mean girl, or in short, a rebel because of
her circle of friends. Her friends influenced her bad things
which she regret for her entire life.
Now, in entering the life that she has done, her 3
children is working for her and for the youngest on their
family. While sitting on her rocking chair and seeing her
youngest child, she thought about life. “What if I didn’t
argue with my family? What if I obeyed my parents? And
what if I didn’t let my friends to conquer me? Did I finish
my studies? Did I reach my dream?” These questions made
her cry.

FictionEqualsMentalUpgrade

Novels like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, or Divergent are being read by a lot of
people, especially teenagers. These novels are product of the different authors’ creative
imagination. As a matter of fact, these novels are being bought worldwide by a lot of
people. Why?
First, people enjoy reading fiction. It’s like they are living in another world like magic.
Second, fictions are stress-relievers. For example, you had a long stressing day at work
and then you want to fantasize about wizards and spells and all you had to do to achieve
that is read a novel. Lastly, fiction is proven to improve mental health.
We already know that reading can increase our knowledge and vocabulary. In short,
it can enhance our IQ. News flash, fiction can increase our mental health. It may not
be our IQ level but fiction increases our EQ level also known as “emotional quotient”.
Emotional quotient is our ability to recognize our own and other people’s emotion.
This will help us handle our feelings well. Because of this, we can label our emotions
well and manage our actions based on what is right. Most of all, this guides our thinking
and behavior.
Based on the research done by the New School for Social Research, book lovers
especially those who love fiction scored better on the “Reading the Mind in the Eyes
Test” (RMET). They concluded that reading even a few pages from a short story could
instantly improve your ability to emphatize with a fellow person.
Doctors now suggest everyone to read. After all, reading is the key to knowledge.
This is good news for a lot of book lovers. So now, I’m leaving a question for all people
out there who are not fond of books.
Do you want an instant mental upgrade? Come on, let’s read some fiction!
A week after, her eldest child asked her,
“Mom, do you want to enter school again to
finish your studies and achieve your dreams in
life? I saw you crying while watching my brother
studying and fulfilling his dream.” She put her
hands on her face to wipe her tears away. But
she failed, her tears are overflowing. As days
passed by, she entered again her last year in high
school and strived to make her dreams possible.
After 10 months in school, she now holds her
diploma in front of hundreds of people. And
many opportunities came to her life.
In achieving your goals in life, anything
doesn’tmatter.Age,identity,andother’sopinion
doesn’t matter. To fulfil your dreams you don’t
need others to work for you, you must work
for it. Trusting in God, believing in yourself, and
persistency is enough to reach your dreams in
life. Like what Mrs. Ibarra did, she was insulted
by a lot of people but she proved to them that
she can do what young people can do, and she
can proudly say that age doesn’t matter.

Feisty. This is the favorite adjective that journalists used to describe the one and
only, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago. We know her as “The Iron Lady” because of her
bravery in facing our country’s problems with the use of her wit, intelligence, and a
dazzle of humor.
“I eat death threats for breakfast.” She once said in an interview therefore
proclaiming that she is not afraid of anything and even not fearing possible death
while fighting corruption. Her effective fight in corruption even gained international
attention. In 1988, Santiago won a Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service,
the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
Sen. Miriam lost three times on the election for presidency but she did not stop
serving our country. She still pursued her vision for our country without giving up. At
the latest election, she was diagnosed of having cancer but even that did not stop her.
When her doctor said that she has cancer, she even said ‘Yes!” because according
to her, she wants a challenge to her life. When asked if she will back out from the
election, she bravely stated, “I have said it before, and I will say it again: I will never
quit. I will never stop. I will never withdraw. I owe it to the Filipino people who believe
in my leadership and who yearn for long-overdue reforms.”

Philippines’ Brave Treasure
By: Samantha Nicole Soria
Though her words are intimidating, fearlessly giving terms for corrupt
government officials and for those who question her about her reforms,
she can still get the admiration of common people. Her book “Stupid is
Forever” followed by her second book “Stupid is Forevermore” gained
a lot of praises. Her books showed her wit and humor, giving funny
punchlines that she used for our country’s different issues.
“Anong tawag kapag nagtapon ka ng basura sa dagat? Answer:
Pollution. Ano naman ang tawag kapag tinapon mo sa dagat ang mga
politikong kurakot? Answer: Solution” that is just one example of the
late senator’s humor. Truly, she is not just a brave woman, but also an
intelligent person that could get the attention of many audiences young
or old, rich or poor.
Even though she’s not here anymore, her words will remain in our
heart. Her vision for our country and her selfless serving proves that she
is truly Philippines’ Brave Treasure.
“This is goodbye. I shall not importune you any longer. I shall fade
into the night like Batman.” – Miriam Defensor-Santiago (1945-2016).
New Health Menace:
Zika Virus
Nutrition:
TheKeytoForever
The world hasn’t yet recovered from
the nightmare of Ebola virus but a new
menace to human health arises. It alarms
the public and brings fear to each citizen.
The misery is hidden behind the name
“Zika” which is an obscure mosquito-
borne virus. Its first case originated in
North Eastern Brazil and eventually killed
40 infants. Zika virus already have 167
recorded cases in 2013, 147 cases in 2014,
and it suddenly boomed into 2782 cases
last 2015.
The word “Zika” came from a forest
in Uganda, America where it is discovered
to infect rhesus monkeys in 1947. It began
affecting humans in 1952 and shockingly
reached America just last year. Zika virus
has the same mosquito carrier with
Dengue and Chikungunya which is Aedes
Aegypti. This mosquito infects a particular
person by biting and transferring the virus
toanothervictim.Italreadythreatenedthe
countries of Brazil, Colombia, Dominican
Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico,
Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela,
Africa, South East Asia and Pacific Islands.
It is expected to leave 1.5 million cases
in the end of 2016 because of its rapid
spreading in different countries all over
the world.
Health (DOH) clarified that Philippines is
100% free of Zika virus up to now. Lyndon
Lee Suy, Director III of Disease Prevention
and Control Bureau, said that the last case
of Zika virus in the country was recorded
in Cebu City on 2012. NAIA confidently
said that Zika virus could not reach the
country’s airport, because it has no direct
flights with the countries affected by the
illness.

After reading this quotation of Ann Wigmore, maybe the thought of your last meal
flashes back to your mind. Probably, you’re curious if it’s healthy or not, right? Well,
Nutrition is a very important thing to us, humans. Our body is a perfect and multi-purpose
machine whose fuel is food. So, it is clear that we should practice activities like having a
balanced diet, daily exercise, enough sleep, and many more to attain “Good Nutrition.”
The food we eat gives us the vitality and energy for life. We cannot accomplish our
daily chores if we’re tired and hungry (definitely and exactly),like during exams at school,
you cannot answer the test if you’re tummy is rumbling like an erupting volcano and your
mind is flying into a far dimension (Ha-ha). As simple as that, Nutrition is a significant
thing. This will help us to stay at a weight that’s right for us. Thus, it will lessen the chance
of being malnourish or obese.
Vitamins and minerals from fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other must-eat foods will
boost your immune system and help you to fight against tiredness and fatigue. How good
is that, if all people can go outdoors and dance in the rain without worrying of getting
sick? How about athletes? They assure that they’ll maintain good nutrition to improve
their sports performances (Aha-mazing!). If you want to be fit and still good-looking even
in mid-40’s of age, you must fill your fridge with nutritious foods, and I’ll assure you that
you’ll be forever young.
Nowadays, everything is instant: instant coffee, instant noodles, instant juice… even
illness is instant. It’s because people forget of being natural. Everybody should patronize
plant crops instead of having those artificial foods in the supermarket. What I’m trying to
say is, yeah I know that during this times everyone should be practical, but we still need
to turn our pushcarts towards the veggie section instead of going to the canned goods.
My dear friend, count nutrients, not calories.
To sum it up, we are all obliged to eat the right kind of food, because it is for our own
good. I know that it is somewhat challenging specially to the fat ones, but you won’t regret
being patient; Thus, you’ll regret of giving up. Always remember that in maintaining the
right weight, “Don’t eat less, eat right.” Therefore, nutrition is not just about the right
food, appropriate weight, and healthy lifestyle, but it is also about life. If you have the
Good Nutrition, you will cherish the happiness and sweetness of life forever.

“The fear of a name
isthefearofthethingitself.”
According to the news, Zika virus
causes birth defect in infants. Health
scientists confirmed it as “Microcephaly,“
a condition at which heads of babies
become abnormally small, associated
with incomplete brain development.
Unfortunately, there’s still no cure for
Microcephaly. Ferreira family in Poco
Fundo, Penambuco State, Brazil is one of
the families who feel such pity of looking
at their child, Jose Wesley, their 2 month-
old son who’s suffering from this disease.
Good thing, information spreads
faster than the virus, so people as
well as their government have taken
actions to combat against Zika virus. The
Canadian government had announced
travel advisories and advised women to
delay pregnancies until the virus already
weakened.
Health professionals in Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) enumerate the
symptoms of Zika virus: fever, rash, joint
pain or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other
symptoms may include: muscle pain,
headache, pain behind the eyes, and
vomiting. They also said that this virus
could make 1 out of 5 people ill, but
only experience the mild symptoms.
Sadly, vaccines are not yet invented, but
experts suggest some ways to recover
from the virus such as bed rest, increase
in fluid intake, and fever medications
including Tylenol for fever and joint pain.
However, a victim of the virus must not
take “aspirin” and other non-steroidal or
anti-inflammatory drugs.
The controversial question is, has
Zika virus already reached Philippines?
The good news is ‘no.’ The Department of
“The food you eat
can be either the safest
and most powerful form of medicine
or the slowest form of poison.”
Take a deep breath before reading
this.
Imagine a placewheretheairturned

because it may irritate their eyes. Every
time you inhale, the air sucks in your
throat and suffocates you. The air which
keeps you alive can also bring you to
death.
Do you believe that this setting of a
nightmare really existed?
Well, it’s an unbelievable yes, and it
happened in Indonesia last year. As we
know, Indonesia is one of the countries
in Southeast Asia which aspires to join in
the global economic race. It is therefore
called a Third-World country meaning it
just begins to develop its resources.
On last October 2015, Indonesia’s
dream turned into a remarkable
nightmare. Forest fires brought
haze which reached Palangkaraya in
Kalamantan, Indonesia. It is said that
it seems the nature had its payback
time. The forest fire is caused by slash-
and-burn agriculture in order to clear
land for palm oil crops, pulp, and paper
plantation.
According to the Indonesian
Government, this method in agriculture
was done annually and it really helped
many farmers, but this year it became
a big struggle. The repetitive process
made the soil dry and peat, so when
they did it again this year, the fire burned
underground. Astronauts said that when

can have. So every student must find a
reason to enjoy the rest of the class or
else, they will be more exhausted and

will take another trip to home. At home,
they will have a snack to regain energy to
do their assignments. Assignments that
are given not to make the students tired,
but to assure if they really learn from their
lessons.
When the day is going to end,
eventually the sun will set in the west and
it’s like an automatic sign that it is already

dishes. While doing this chore, bubbles
are produced from the detergent. We
show our childishness by popping these
bubbles. A bubble is made of transparent
water enclosing transparent air and easily
disappears because of its super thin
structure.
Next is everyone’s favorite part of the
day: rest time. Before sleeping, students
nowadays will watch the television or surf
in the internet. For them, these are their
ways of leisure but actually, these will
make them even tired. It is bad for the
eyes when someone focuses his/herself
to the TV screen or computer monitor.
These appliances produce radiation which
is harmful for your eyesight. Reading can
be a better thing to do. It is not harmful
for the eyes if you will just read words in
a visible font and using a light. Thus, it will
help you to become knowledgeable.
During the night when everyone is
asleep, another day of perseverance is
waiting. Another day of students’ daily life.

For students, every day of schooling is a day of hard work. Each student needs to
manage his/her precious time in order to fulfill daily commitments. Preparing for school
is like arming yourself for a battle. So if you don’t want to lose, you better use your time
wisely and make yourself ready.
By habit, a student wakes up early in the morning. Creeping like a snail, unwillingly
to school. Some students are awakened by their alarm clocks and there are students
arouse from sleep by their parents. A
typical person needs to sleep 8-10 hours
to obtain enough energy and rest for
tomorrow’s work.
The next routine is eating a good
breakfast. Breakfast is the first meal of the
day where you will get the nutrients you
need so it must be balanced. Glucose in
food will help the brain to stimulate. After
eating, you must rest for a while before
doing other activities. It will enable your

a soap to clean our body. Soap contains
surfactants and removes dirt by lowering

After that, you need to wear clothes

Nowadays, drug abuse is rampant and popular in the Philippines; not just to adults but also to young people. While there are no hard-fast statistics available, it is estimated that as many as 60,000 young people in the Philippines are dealing with drug addiction. The majority of drug users are students with marijuana as a drug of choice. The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking on a possibility of conducting mandatory drug testing on students. This campaign aims to help youth to stop using illegal drugs and to suppress drug pushers who use young children as couriers. In this case, the parent must give their permission first before the students can undergo the tests. The primary purpose of drug testing is not to punish students, but prevent drug abuse and help the current generation become drug-free. Critics of the program point out that it’s against the constitutional rights of unreasonable “searching and seizure“ wherein the usual drug testing, the urine will be tested is an act of search and seizure.” However, according to “G.R. No. 157870- Supreme Court of the Philippines” the students of secondary and tertiary schools, shall be pursuant to the related rules and regulations as contained in the schools student handbook, and with notice to the parents, undergo random drug testing. Drug testing should be obligatory for all students at least once a year. We need drug testing in schools to protect and prevent youth from using drugs and for the drug-free country that we aim. There is right from wrong and letting students undergo drug testing is just right. If the result is negative then good and if the result is positive, the school administration deals with this individual case and parent can help their child. This testing will educate and liberate students to live a healthy and productive lifestyle for a safety educational ability, and general well-being youth of our country—are needed to ensure a drug-free learning environment across the nation. “Finally, the dragon learns to stop from blowing its fire.” Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan welcomed last November 2, Wednesday the seeming improvementintherelationshipbetweenthePhilippinesandChina, startingwiththedemilitarization of the disputed Panatag Shoal. “Even if China won’t leave Panatag Shoal, we are glad about the news that since October 16, our fisher folk have been able to go there without being harassed by Chinese ships,” the senator said in a statement to the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Wednesday. While the Filipino fishermen had been allowed to fish in the disputed area, Chinese Coast Guard ships were still reportedly seen guarding the shoal. This is still a sign of the foreign country’s continuous ego to conquer this territory, but again, we must be grateful to see a little spark of consideration from the Chinese government. However, ”even neither parties have dropped their sovereignty claims on the shoals, we are happy that the place has been de-militarized and the relationship between Philippines and China seems better,” the senator said. Pangilinan though asserted that the Philippines has the exclusive rights to fish in the area, citing the United Nations-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at ‘The Hague’, the Netherlands’ decision last July. “Our country continues to hold its pride that the said territory is definitely owned by the Philippines and it will not show any sign of cowardice from the possessive dragon.” Pangilinan said the shoal, which is about 230 kilometers from Zambales, is within the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone, or 370 kilometers from the shore. As the undeniable proof is presented, the Panatag Shoal should be declared under Philippines. “According to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which the International Arbitral Tribunal in July upheld, we have the exclusive rights to fish here,” he said. “We need to care for the sea’s offerings. We need to care for fishers who risk their lives to earn a living and give us fish, crabs, lobsters, and other sea wealth for our dinner table. This is everyone’s duty, the Chinese’s and the Filipinos,” the senator added. Every citizens’ prayer is that peace will spring between the two countries and the ongoing dispute will finally come to an end. Pangilinan also expressed hope that a bill that seeks to establish a Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources would soon become a reality “so that our treasures from the sea and our fisher folk are cared for.” For the mean time, we should not be too confident because China already showed calmness. Remember, the dragon isn’t sleeping; its eyes are still wide open, thinking when it should blow its fire again and where it’ll be against from. Does Silence Mean Closure? • 5. War on Drugs Show Justice or No Justice? EDITORIAL TheNet 5 Show justice or no justice? President RodrigoDuterte’s‘warondrugs’campaign, started last June 2016. This campaign aims to eliminate drug menace in the Philippines. And also, to punish those people who are connected with drugs. Justoverhisfirst100daysaspresident, more than just 2500 people were killed and thousands more turn themselves to authorities. This campaign and alarming killing cases caught a lot of attention and critics especially to those organizations who promotehumanrights.Thequestionnow is “Does war on drugs really show justice or no justice at all? “ Drug trade is really rampant in the Philippines. Duterte’s promise to lessen and eliminate drug trade and urged people to “go ahead and kill” addicts even if it would be too painful for their families. Human rights experts warned that allegations of trafficking should go through legal process and be tried in court and not by gunmen. While some said that extrajudicial killing cases must stop, because some cases wasn’t really sure if they’re punishing those who are really connected with drugs or innocent people. Under Thaksin Shinawatra’s leadership, Thailand’s 2003 ‘war on drugs’ saw 2800 extrajudicial killings in three months. Then, four years later, an official report count that more than half of the victims had no connection to drugs. Thailand’s drug trade has proved resilient. Justice means using law to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals. It requires appropriate cases be filed and that those proven to be accountable be punished. We are all one with the fight against drugs, but extrajudicial killing will never be the key. Let’s look deeper into these cases and understand more. Engaging in all-out war against drug is beyond the power of government alone. If we aim for better country--drug free country, we should all be engaged and cooperate and no one should die this way.
  • 6. Today is an era of crisis. A crisis which destroys us bit by bit yet, we find ourselves in the middle of this uprising change. Therefore, we must have a space to breathe in this midst to where we must heal and shatter temporarily the fearsome reality we face, in the medium of art. Here is “The Artidote”. “The Artidote” is a space for people to story tell, empathize, bond and heal through art which we can reach out in the most profound social media site, Facebook. Right, it is a page in Facebook created and curated by Jovanny Varela-Ferreyra. He was the former in-charge of another famous artistic page, “The Berlin Art Parasites”. He believes that we’re currently bombarded with the struggles that come with life and that sometimes those are the only things that people know. He said that there are fortunate individuals that burn creative and intellectual energy to show us another point of view-and often a point of view makes all the difference. Also, he was motivated by the superficiality/distractions that social media is seemingly pushing us towards; the pointless news articles in the media, the unimportant information so many of us share on this never- ending feed. He wanted to bring something refreshing into the feed. The Artidote includes various posts; videos, links and pictures that explicit an evoking art and portraying deep self-definitions of emotions and reveries. It attracts introverts with a big mouth inside to shout out in the public. Sometimes, the posts involve past experiences of followers to share or relate with other’s thoughts. Art is the visualization of our inner thoughts. The posts of different forms of artwork, either digital sketches or paintings, plus the quotes from different books and people made up the uniqueness of every meaning of the posts. Again, we all face this fearsome downpour of the changing reality happening now around us. It was tasked in ourselves to find a healing therapy in the midst of the harrowing waves slamming in our souls. All in all, “the Artidote” is a well-rounded page for all people who seek free vaccinations against the intense pounding of an upcoming change and crisis in our society. By: Gilbert Sagal “Hey, talk to me,” a person said. “Later,” the other one replied while holding a phone. Look around you. Try to remember the days when our life is not revolving around social media. Children are seen actively playing outside their houses. Teenagers are freely chatting with their friends personally over a cup of coffee. Libraries are full of students gathering lots of information. Don’t you miss those days when our life was screen-free? Nowadays, lots of people became active users of social media. The largest social networking site- Facebook has now over 1.49 billion active users and counting. This proves that social media really made a huge impact to this generation. It is no doubt that social media helped us in a way. Families who are far from each other can communicate easily. News and other informations can be easily seen. In just one click, you can share memories in your life forever. Making comments about certain issues is just a piece of cake. Socialmediaiscreatedforpeopletohavefreedom of sharing things and ideas but the thing is, people got addicted over it. Even fake things that aren’t essential are being posted. Also, some people are taking advantage of it. Sadly, some people use social media for bullying other people. This also affects the altitudeofmanypeoplebecauseitistattooedontheir mind that life without social media is like having air around you but you’re not able to breathe it. In some ways, social media creates gap between families and friends. The true essence of friendship is lost when people only talk to each other through FEATURE TheNet 6 the screens. On some families, talking to each other personally about their feelings is becoming a burden because others prefer to just use social media and post it. Well people, you are absolutely wrong about your perception. We can live without social media. Sure, it will be hard to adjust again without social media but look at our past generation. They can still have fun without social media. Yes, social media is made to make our lives better. People just better not be addicted to it. Imagine all the positive outcomes if we are screen-free. Our time won’t revolve on social media only but instead, we can use our precious time doing things that will give us pure joy. Friends can talk to each other face-to-face. Families can bond together without being interrupted by the overuse of social media. Students can gain real knowledge by really studying things through books. There won’t be any fake news scattered around social media. Lastly, people will have a real life and not just a virtual life that they made out of using social media. Explore the world. Step out of your comfort zone and socialize without having to use your phones or laptops. Appreciate the beauty that you can see through reality. By the way, pictures look really great on real photo albums and scrapbooks. Look around you. See? Life without social media is not so bad. People will just have to make a greater use of it. The scenarios will be different and better if we are screen-free. “Can I talk to you?” a person asked. They would look at me and I would drown. Then I’ll say to myself, “I’m not beautiful, not even average. I’m just simply a flaw in this whole wide world. A walking travesty and a stupid catastrophe.” At times, I would look at myself so low, not even a bit proud of what I am. I don’t even know what compliments are. I would cry myself to sleep, my pillows catching my tears that speaks how I think I’m never enough. I would read poems that would By Abegail Caranto devastate me instead of uplifting my spirit. I’ll listen to sad songs and relate myself to them. I would look at my classmate’s photos and compare myself to her. It was crazy and stupid, I know. Then at night, my sadness envelopes me, my head is popped up by the monstrous thoughts that’s heavier than my blankets. But someone calmed the catastrophic storm in me. Someone made me realize the importance of accepting your flaws and curves. To look beyond my soul and see the glow. To see my marks and scars as part of me. I realized that my damaged petals made me more beautiful than the other flowers. I learned how to love myself. With that, I can remember was, one day I woke up. And when I looked at the mirror, I saw myself shining. A different kind of shine that’s telling me I’m beautiful, unique in my own way. The sad pair of eyes glimmered, itwasmagical, brightandforthefirsttime I told myself I was beautiful. So for the one who’s reading this, you’re beautiful, you’re own kind of beautiful. How often do you tell them the difficultiesyou’refacing?Allthemishapsyoumade? The disappointments you felt? How often do you cry on their shoulders? Or do you? Teenage years is the years of confusion. The years where we commit mistakes and get puzzled up. We start dreaming, start falling, start trying new things and end childish activities. It’s hard but somehow the adventure is amazing. A rollercoasterride. It’slikeenteringamazeandtrying to figure the way out without anyone but yourself, but of course that’s only what we think. We think we’re alone in knowing ourselves, we forget that we have our parents to guide us. We’re ashamed of telling them what bothers us, until we don’t talk to them anymore. We tend to hide and cast them away in our lives, little do we know, we’re hurting their feelings. We think that they don’t care when all we do is shut the door. We’re scared of what they Talk to me By Abegail Caranto will say, what they’ll react when the truth is they will understand. We forget the small details, we forget that they are our parents and they will forever be. We cry on our pillows, biting the problems lingering on our tongues, when we can cry inside the warm embrace of our parents. We keep the pain when we can tell it to them and seek for help. We talk to our diaries when the truth is we can talk to them. Teenage years is the years of mistake, it’s okay if we don’t talk to them, for now. We can always change. So for those who haven’t watched this film yet, what are you waiting for? Grab your family and friends and enjoy learning while watching this film. Let yourself experience the three-minute magic of Pamalakaya. The Three-Minute Magic of Pamalakaya By: Samantha Nicole Soria When you hear ‘age doesn’t matter’ from someone, what comes first to your mind? Of course, about love. A 15 year old boy is in love to a 35 year old woman or an 18 year old girl is in love to a 50 year old man. It’s so cliché. But you know what? ‘Age’ is not only about love, sometimes, it is about to someone’s dream, someone’s goal in life, and someone’s achievement on his/her entire life. Mrs. Ma. Concepcion Ibarra is a 60 year old woman. She is a single mother and got pregnant while she’s on her high school life the age of 15. She’s with her 4 children ages 44, 37, 30, and 19. She’s the black sheep of their family. A wild woman, a mean girl, or in short, a rebel because of her circle of friends. Her friends influenced her bad things which she regret for her entire life. Now, in entering the life that she has done, her 3 children is working for her and for the youngest on their family. While sitting on her rocking chair and seeing her youngest child, she thought about life. “What if I didn’t argue with my family? What if I obeyed my parents? And what if I didn’t let my friends to conquer me? Did I finish my studies? Did I reach my dream?” These questions made her cry. FEATURE TheNet 7 fiction /’fikSH(ə)n/ noun literature in the form of prose, especially short stories and novels, that describes imaginary events and people. FictionEqualsMentalUpgrade By: Samantha Nicole Soria Novels like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, or Divergent are being read by a lot of people, especially teenagers. These novels are product of the different authors’ creative imagination. As a matter of fact, these novels are being bought worldwide by a lot of people. Why? First, people enjoy reading fiction. It’s like they are living in another world like magic. Second, fictions are stress-relievers. For example, you had a long stressing day at work and then you want to fantasize about wizards and spells and all you had to do to achieve that is read a novel. Lastly, fiction is proven to improve mental health. We already know that reading can increase our knowledge and vocabulary. In short, it can enhance our IQ. News flash, fiction can increase our mental health. It may not be our IQ level but fiction increases our EQ level also known as “emotional quotient”. Emotional quotient is our ability to recognize our own and other people’s emotion. This will help us handle our feelings well. Because of this, we can label our emotions well and manage our actions based on what is right. Most of all, this guides our thinking and behavior. Based on the research done by the New School for Social Research, book lovers especially those who love fiction scored better on the “Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test” (RMET). They concluded that reading even a few pages from a short story could instantly improve your ability to emphatize with a fellow person. Doctors now suggest everyone to read. After all, reading is the key to knowledge. This is good news for a lot of book lovers. So now, I’m leaving a question for all people out there who are not fond of books. Do you want an instant mental upgrade? Come on, let’s read some fiction! A week after, her eldest child asked her, “Mom, do you want to enter school again to finish your studies and achieve your dreams in life? I saw you crying while watching my brother studying and fulfilling his dream.” She put her hands on her face to wipe her tears away. But she failed, her tears are overflowing. As days passed by, she entered again her last year in high school and strived to make her dreams possible. After 10 months in school, she now holds her diploma in front of hundreds of people. And many opportunities came to her life. In achieving your goals in life, anything doesn’tmatter.Age,identity, andother’sopinion doesn’t matter. To fulfil your dreams you don’t need others to work for you, you must work for it. Trusting in God, believing in yourself, and persistency is enough to reach your dreams in life. Like what Mrs. Ibarra did, she was insulted by a lot of people but she proved to them that she can do what young people can do, and she can proudly say that age doesn’t matter. • 8. FEATURE TheNet 8 Feisty. This is the favorite adjective that journalists used to describe the one and only, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago. We know her as “The Iron Lady” because of her bravery in facing our country’s problems with the use of her wit, intelligence, and a dazzle of humor. “I eat death threats for breakfast.” She once said in an interview therefore proclaiming that she is not afraid of anything and even not fearing possible death while fighting corruption. Her effective fight in corruption even gained international attention. In 1988, Santiago won a Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Prize. Sen. Miriam lost three times on the election for presidency but she did not stop serving our country. She still pursued her vision for our country without giving up. At the latest election, she was diagnosed of having cancer but even that did not stop her. When her doctor said that she has cancer, she even said ‘Yes!” because according to her, she wants a challenge to her life. When asked if she will back out from the election, she bravely stated, “I have said it before, and I will say it again: I will never quit. I will never stop. I will never withdraw. I owe it to the Filipino people who believe in my leadership and who yearn for long-overdue reforms.” Miriam Defensor-Santiago: Philippines’ Brave Treasure By: Samantha Nicole Soria Though her words are intimidating, fearlessly giving terms for corrupt government officials and for those who question her about her reforms, she can still get the admiration of common people. Her book “Stupid is Forever” followed by her second book “Stupid is Forevermore” gained a lot of praises. Her books showed her wit and humor, giving funny punchlines that she used for our country’s different issues. “Anong tawag kapag nagtapon ka ng basura sa dagat? Answer: Pollution. Ano naman ang tawag kapag tinapon mo sa dagat ang mga politikong kurakot? Answer: Solution” that is just one example of the late senator’s humor. Truly, she is not just a brave woman, but also an intelligent person that could get the attention of many audiences young or old, rich or poor. Even though she’s not here anymore, her words will remain in our heart. Her vision for our country and her selfless serving proves that she is truly Philippines’ Brave Treasure. “This is goodbye. I shall not importune you any longer. I shall fade into the night like Batman.” – Miriam Defensor-Santiago (1945-2016).
  • 9. New Health Menace: Zika Virus Nutrition: TheKeytoForever The world hasn’t yet recovered from the nightmare of Ebola virus but a new menace to human health arises. It alarms the public and brings fear to each citizen. The misery is hidden behind the name “Zika” which is an obscure mosquito- borne virus. Its first case originated in North Eastern Brazil and eventually killed 40 infants. Zika virus already have 167 recorded cases in 2013, 147 cases in 2014, and it suddenly boomed into 2782 cases last 2015. The word “Zika” came from a forest in Uganda, America where it is discovered to infect rhesus monkeys in 1947. It began affecting humans in 1952 and shockingly reached America just last year. Zika virus has the same mosquito carrier with Dengue and Chikungunya which is Aedes Aegypti. This mosquito infects a particular person by biting and transferring the virus toanothervictim.Italreadythreatenedthe countries of Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela, Africa, South East Asia and Pacific Islands. It is expected to leave 1.5 million cases in the end of 2016 because of its rapid spreading in different countries all over the world. Health (DOH) clarified that Philippines is 100% free of Zika virus up to now. Lyndon Lee Suy, Director III of Disease Prevention and Control Bureau, said that the last case of Zika virus in the country was recorded in Cebu City on 2012. NAIA confidently said that Zika virus could not reach the country’s airport, because it has no direct flights with the countries affected by the illness. By Mexica M. Bausa After reading this quotation of Ann Wigmore, maybe the thought of your last meal flashes back to your mind. Probably, you’re curious if it’s healthy or not, right? Well, Nutrition is a very important thing to us, humans. Our body is a perfect and multi-purpose machine whose fuel is food. So, it is clear that we should practice activities like having a balanced diet, daily exercise, enough sleep, and many more to attain “Good Nutrition.” The food we eat gives us the vitality and energy for life. We cannot accomplish our daily chores if we’re tired and hungry (definitely and exactly),like during exams at school, you cannot answer the test if you’re tummy is rumbling like an erupting volcano and your mind is flying into a far dimension (Ha-ha). As simple as that, Nutrition is a significant thing. This will help us to stay at a weight that’s right for us. Thus, it will lessen the chance of being malnourish or obese. Vitamins and minerals from fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other must-eat foods will boost your immune system and help you to fight against tiredness and fatigue. How good is that, if all people can go outdoors and dance in the rain without worrying of getting sick? How about athletes? They assure that they’ll maintain good nutrition to improve their sports performances (Aha-mazing!). If you want to be fit and still good-looking even in mid-40’s of age, you must fill your fridge with nutritious foods, and I’ll assure you that you’ll be forever young. Nowadays, everything is instant: instant coffee, instant noodles, instant juice… even illness is instant. It’s because people forget of being natural. Everybody should patronize plant crops instead of having those artificial foods in the supermarket. What I’m trying to say is, yeah I know that during this times everyone should be practical, but we still need to turn our pushcarts towards the veggie section instead of going to the canned goods. My dear friend, count nutrients, not calories. To sum it up, we are all obliged to eat the right kind of food, because it is for our own good. I know that it is somewhat challenging specially to the fat ones, but you won’t regret being patient; Thus, you’ll regret of giving up. Always remember that in maintaining the right weight, “Don’t eat less, eat right.” Therefore, nutrition is not just about the right food, appropriate weight, and healthy lifestyle, but it is also about life. If you have the Good Nutrition, you will cherish the happiness and sweetness of life forever. By Mexica M. Bausa SCI&TECH TheNet 9 “The fear of a name isthefearofthethingitself.” According to the news, Zika virus causes birth defect in infants. Health scientists confirmed it as “Microcephaly,“ a condition at which heads of babies become abnormally small, associated with incomplete brain development. Unfortunately, there’s still no cure for Microcephaly. Ferreira family in Poco Fundo, Penambuco State, Brazil is one of the families who feel such pity of looking at their child, Jose Wesley, their 2 month- old son who’s suffering from this disease. Good thing, information spreads faster than the virus, so people as well as their government have taken actions to combat against Zika virus. The Canadian government had announced travel advisories and advised women to delay pregnancies until the virus already weakened. Health professionals in Centers for Disease Control (CDC) enumerate the symptoms of Zika virus: fever, rash, joint pain or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other symptoms may include: muscle pain, headache, pain behind the eyes, and vomiting. They also said that this virus could make 1 out of 5 people ill, but only experience the mild symptoms. Sadly, vaccines are not yet invented, but experts suggest some ways to recover from the virus such as bed rest, increase in fluid intake, and fever medications including Tylenol for fever and joint pain. However, a victim of the virus must not take “aspirin” and other non-steroidal or anti-inflammatory drugs. The controversial question is, has Zika virus already reached Philippines? The good news is ‘no.’ The Department of “The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”
  • 10. Take a deep breath before reading this. Imagine a placewheretheairturned yellow and people can’t stay outdoors, because it may irritate their eyes. Every time you inhale, the air sucks in your throat and suffocates you. The air which keeps you alive can also bring you to death. Do you believe that this setting of a nightmare really existed? Well, it’s an unbelievable yes, and it happened in Indonesia last year. As we know, Indonesia is one of the countries in Southeast Asia which aspires to join in the global economic race. It is therefore called a Third-World country meaning it just begins to develop its resources. On last October 2015, Indonesia’s dream turned into a remarkable nightmare. Forest fires brought haze which reached Palangkaraya in Kalamantan, Indonesia. It is said that it seems the nature had its payback time. The forest fire is caused by slash- and-burn agriculture in order to clear land for palm oil crops, pulp, and paper plantation. According to the Indonesian Government, this method in agriculture was done annually and it really helped many farmers, but this year it became a big struggle. The repetitive process made the soil dry and peat, so when they did it again this year, the fire burned underground. Astronauts said that when Science In Students’ Daily Life to practice adds to the stress that you can have. So every student must find a reason to enjoy the rest of the class or else, they will be more exhausted and bored. When it’s dismissal time, students will take another trip to home. At home, they will have a snack to regain energy to do their assignments. Assignments that are given not to make the students tired, but to assure if they really learn from their lessons. When the day is going to end, eventually the sun will set in the west and it’s like an automatic sign that it is already dinnertime.Afterthedinner, studentswho are the young ones are obliged to wash the dishes. While doing this chore, bubbles are produced from the detergent. We show our childishness by popping these bubbles. A bubble is made of transparent water enclosing transparent air and easily disappears because of its super thin structure. Next is everyone’s favorite part of the day: rest time. Before sleeping, students nowadays will watch the television or surf in the internet. For them, these are their ways of leisure but actually, these will make them even tired. It is bad for the eyes when someone focuses his/herself to the TV screen or computer monitor. These appliances produce radiation which is harmful for your eyesight. Reading can be a better thing to do. It is not harmful for the eyes if you will just read words in a visible font and using a light. Thus, it will help you to become knowledgeable. During the night when everyone is asleep, another day of perseverance is waiting. Another day of students’ daily life. By Mexica M. Bausa SCI&TECH TheNet 10 For students, every day of schooling is a day of hard work. Each student needs to manage his/her precious time in order to fulfill daily commitments. Preparing for school is like arming yourself for a battle. So if you don’t want to lose, you better use your time wisely and make yourself ready. By habit, a student wakes up early in the morning. Creeping like a snail, unwillingly to school. Some students are awakened by their alarm clocks and there are students arouse from sleep by their parents. A typical person needs to sleep 8-10 hours to obtain enough energy and rest for tomorrow’s work. The next routine is eating a good breakfast. Breakfast is the first meal of the day where you will get the nutrients you need so it must be balanced. Glucose in food will help the brain to stimulate. After eating, you must rest for a while before doing other activities. It will enable your digestive system to function properly. Then, everyoneshouldtakeabath.Part of it is brushing your teeth with toothpaste or gurgling a mouthwash. These will help you to prevent having a bad breath. Bad breathiscausedbybacteriawhichproduce volatile and odoriferous sulfur compounds in the mouth. In a shower, we usually use a soap to clean our body. Soap contains surfactants and removes dirt by lowering the surface tension of water. After that, you need to wear clothes or uniform. These must be well-washed and dried for you to be comfortable. A student will do some magic in fixing his/ herself like combing the hair and putting some perfume or powder. Of course every student wants to be fresh and presentable whentheygotoschool.Studentswilltravel by riding in a jeepney or other means of transportation in order to reach their school. When they arrived, their hair will be somewhat messy because of the hassle, so they need to fix themselves again. Then, the time that they’re preparing for occurs. Students should attend their classes actively and with willingness. Psychologists say that the feeling of doing such a thing that you don’t want Burning Nightmare! they take a look from the NASA’s space satellite, they saw a huge blanket of gray smoke covering almost the whole Asia including the countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Northern Indonesia, Thailand, and Philippines. ScholarssaythatElNinohadworsened the forest fires which contributed to Global Warming and even Climate Change. The air in Indonesia contains toxic fumes and harmful compounds such as Ozone, Carbon Monoxide, Ammonia, Cyanide, Formaldehyde, Nitric Oxide and Methane gas. Indonesia increased firefighters and equipment on the ground to combat forest fires. The government also prepared warships and ferries for evacuation of Indonesian people specially the children. Indonesian President Joko Widodo did not attend in the APEC Summit in Manila on last November 2015 to focus in this problem. This situation is not just a scary nightmare which terrified each of us in the whole world, but also a wake-up call from Mother Earth who says that she’s still starving for our action and discipline. It is believed that humans are the most intelligent species living on Earth, so why don’t we use our skills to find alternative ways to attain progress without causing destructions to nature. We should wake uprightnow, beforeMotherEarthpaysit back in a way that we can never imagine. By Mexica M. Bausa
