'Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression to the final product?'
Evaluation Question 7 AS Media Studies - Music Magazine
1. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO
YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION TO
THE FULL PRODUCT?
When I first created my preliminary task, I did not know how to use
anything however throughout the process of creating it, I learnt how to do
different things. This has been mainly learning how to use Photoshop
which is quite a lot as there are multiple things I have had to learn how to
do. I have learnt different codes and conventions which I did not know
before and I have learnt how to improve on my first general idea.
I have also learnt how to manage my time efficiently. We had a time
frame when creating our preliminary task however we went over that as it
was taking longer than expected. By having that experience, it made me
realise that I had to use my time wisely and make sure I was putting my
full effort in to get it done on time. I did some of my work outside of
lesson times so I would have it done quickly and on time.
Throughout the preliminary task I developed multiple skills as mentioned
above, the main one being how to use Photoshop which I then used in
my final product to help me create my intended ideas. The Photoshop
skills allowed me to edit my photos and backgrounds as well as including
text etc. for my final product.
2. My preliminary task contents
page was not well designed as
the text is not clear as well as it
not having enough information
on it whereas my final product
contents page has page
numbers as well as a short
description of what is on the
page as well as having a main
image relating to the main article
with an extra music charts
added to the bottom. It has
progressed as it is more
professional and well suited to
my target audience.
My preliminary task front cover
was also not well designed as it
doesn’t have a main image
relating to the main article. It
also has no sneak peeks or
images etc. There is only the
school moto and a barcode.
Whereas on my final product I
ensured I added as many
conventions of a pop music
magazine as I could such as a
sub image and caption, barcode,
date and price etc. My skills
developed and allowed me to
create a more suitable,
professional and eye-catching
front cover.
