Bespoke Intelligent Caching Engine
Granular Data Deduplication – “Data Once”
• Intelligent Caching Engine identifies data suitable for caching
• Advanced Rolling Hash – Indexing – Referencing
• Integration and Synchronisation of Cached data
• Across Protocols – Uploads and Downloads
Compression
• Typically gives a 50% reduction in data volumes
Protocol Optimisation
• The ability to identify a number of protocols and apply protocol-specific
optimization.
e.g. ‘chatty’ CIFS file sharing protocol is greatly improved (read ahead and
write behind optimizations)
• Plus many other protocols including SSL
TCP Optimisation
• Adjusting the congestion control algorithm of the WAN links
• Suitable for links with high latency or high levels of packet loss improving
throughput
Including the new TCP BBR - CCA
3. “TCP BBR - CCA”
• BBR = Bottleneck Bandwidth Round-trip propagation time
• CCA = Congestion Control Algorithm
• Current TCP-ACK algorithm out of date
• BBR is a GOOGLE Development to improve internet speeds, which is
exactly what it has done!
4. TCP – BBR – CCA
• The offerings I am highlighting today already
have TCP – BBR – CCA integrated.
8. “Smart” Solution

or
• OEM agreement
• PoC’s available
There are fairly well defined techniques for TCP acceleration that have been around for some time that help to overcome the chattiness of this protocol.
One such technique is called ‘adjustable window sizing”. The basic gist is that by delivering more packets within a single delivery window, you can reduce the back and forth required by TCP. In the example shown on the left – 5 packets would take 500 ms to transfer across a WAN link with 100 ms roundtrip latency as each packet requires an acknowledgement before the next can be sent. If the window size is increased – say from 64 KB to 4 MB - all those packets can be sent together, as is shown on the right. That cuts the latency down to 100 ms.
Silver Peak’s Network Acceleration is unique in that it adds an element of scalability to the TCP acceleration process. We support up to 16 Gbps of WAN capacity. This enables TCP optimization to take place on very large sustained data flows.
Note that Latency is determined by:
Speed of light
Route taken
Congestion in network
