19. ● Hyperledger Besu is an open source Ethereum
execution client written in Java.
● Public and Private Options
● Besu implements the EEA specification.
● Besu can run all Ethereum smart contracts, and
you can use all Ethereum ERC Standards on it,
including:
○ ERC-20 - Fungible Tokens
○ ERC-721 - NFT Tokens
● Besu is being used by many in the financial
industry as well as those that wish to work in both
the public and private blockchain space or those
that don’t want to have to make a firm decision
between working on public or private chains.

20. Market Leading
A recent analysis by
Blockdaemon of the
technology powering the
global tokenization ecosystem
found that Hyperledger Besu
was the most frequently
mentioned protocol in a survey
of 92 different firms, ranging
from bank asset managers to
clearing houses.
20
40% of the surveyed firms
cited Hyperledger Besu
Feb 2024: https://www.blockdaemon.com/resources/tokenization-data-insights
21. Client Diversity Is NOT Optional : Besu is critical
21
Besu has ~12% share
of all Ethereum mainnet
nodes.
Besu has received one of
the Ethereum Client
Incentive Program (CIP)
grants for developers.

23. Collateralized Assets
● Fnality is distributed Financial Market
Infrastructure built on Hyperledger Besu that
interoperates and connects to many existing
systems and rails
● Collateral assets are tokenized and pooled
among nodes in the network for use across
currencies, payment types, and even with other
blockchain networks
● The network reduces systemic and credit risk
by utilizing the dFMI infrastructure and
enabling faster settlement among parties
● Fnality provides a digital representation of
money held in a central bank account to ensure
banks could rely upon token value as they
would fiat currency in transactions
Fnality now boasts 17 major institutions as shareholders:
Banco Santander, BNY Mellon, Barclays, CIBC,
Commerzbank, Credit Suisse, Euroclear, ING, KBC Group,
Lloyds Banking Group, Mizuho Financial Group, MUFG
Bank, Nasdaq, Nivaura, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking
Corporation, State Street Corporation, and UBS
24. Digital Assets for cash management
In September 2023 Citi Treasury and Trade
Solutions (TTS) launched Citi Token Services,
leveraging blockchain and smart contract
technologies for institutional cash management
and trade finance.
● Uses Besu as Private/permissioned
blockchain technology
● Provides 'always-on', programmable financial
services for institutional clients.
● Enhances cross-border payments, liquidity,
and automate trade finance solutions,
available 24/7.
● Streamlined digital process for both buyers
and sellers.
● Reduced transaction processing times from
days to mere minutes. Citi TTS: Offers integrated cash management and trade
finance services globally. Innovative solutions enhance
Citi's products and services including digital money,
trade, securities, custody, asset servicing and collateral
mobility.
25. Besu Financial Services Working Group
25
The mission is driving working sessions for enterprise
users and code contributors to come together for:
● Identifying challenges that enterprise users face
when operationalizing Besu for enterprise use
cases
● Defining new features and enhancements that
drive alignment between Besu and
enterprise-level requirements
The main deliverables expected to come out of this WG
include, but are not limited to:
● A prioritized and detailed list of enhancements of
existing features of Besu
● A prioritized and detailed list of new features of
Besu
● A prioritized and detailed list of technical
limitations of Besu
● A list of recommended practices of Besu for
enterprise use cases

26. ● The prototype provides ledger optionality through an
interoperability protocol that enables the communication
between applications running on a Fabric or Besu network
Project Genesis: Prototype digital platforms for
green bond tokenization
Developed a digital infrastructure that can enable green
investments and help issuers and governments to meet
environmental and sustainability goals
Investors can both see accrued interest, and track in real
time how much clean energy is being generated, and the
consequent reduction in CO2 emissions. The investor can sell
the bonds in a transparent market
Measurable Results include:
● Reducing the bond preparation and origination phase by
an estimated 50% from 1-2 months to 2-4 weeks
● Streamlining the current subscription process and
eliminating all currently manual reconciliation work can
save an estimated 800-1,000 person in the subscription
phase
● Saving an additional 2-3 business days when the green
bond is listed for secondary market trading

The Global Need: Interoperability
29. Hyperledger Cacti is a a blockchain integration tool
designed to allow users to securely integrate
different blockchains.
Cacti a pluggable, enterprise-grade framework that
does not force users to introduce yet another
competing blockchain. It aims to provide
developers with an abstraction over protocol
specific implementations, enabling interoperability.
This enables solutions to more easily adapt to new
protocols, and make transactions involving multiple
public and/or permissioned ledgers.
Focused on cross-chain
transaction and atomic swaps.

33. Seamless and Secure Financial Data Verification
Occupational and payroll fraud is estimated to
be $1.9 trillion for the top 500 top grossing
companies globally
● Indicio Proven enables continuous,
seamless verification of a person’s
employment status and reduces an
organization’s fraud risk using tamper-proof
digital employee credentials
● Built on Hyperledger Indy, Aries, and Ursa, it
is built for the easy adoption of open
source verifiable credentials and
decentralized identity technology that is
privacy-preserving, secure, and GDPR
compliant

36. Swift CBDC Sandbox
● The live sandbox developed for Swift by
Kaleido using Hyperledger Firefly hosts 18
central banks and commercial banks to help
define the future of CBDCs in cross-border
payments.
● The sandbox provided an environment for
financial institutions to collaborate, explore,
assess, and improve our experimental CBDC
interlinking solution – as well as to define
the next generation of supported payment
flows and use cases.
● More than 30 financial institutions across
the world are taking part in the second
phase of sandbox experiments to explore
further use cases
