5. TYPES OF CONJUCTIVA

6. BLOOD SUPPLY:
• Posterior conjuctival vessels arise from medial and lateral palpebral branches of
ophthalmic and lacrimal artery
• Anterior conjuctival vessels arise from anterior cilliary arteries
• Veins from conjuctiva drain into venous plexus of eyelids
NERVE SUPPLY
• Circumcorneal zone of conjuctiva is supplied by branches of long ciliary nerve.
• Rest of the conjuctiva is supplied by branches of supraorbital,supratrochlear,lacrimal
and infraorbital nerve.
FUNCTIONS
• It joins the eyelids with eyeball.
• Its various glands produce aqueous and mucin secretions forming tear film.
• Immune surveilliance helps to prevent the entrance of microbes into the eye.
• It supplies nutrition to the peripheral cornea.
