4. Background
The main purpose of conducting surveys is to
collect the primary data search. The open spaces
problem, open drain and the other issues have
been highlighted in the conduction of survey.
Surveys are useful in describing the
characteristics of a large population.
4
5. Defining survey research objectives at the start
of your survey project plan can serve as a
guide throughout the entire research process,
making certain that the right questions are
asked to the right target audience, and making
certain that your clients and stakeholders are
satisfied with the overall outcomes. The
objectives of the conduction of the survey of
Allama Iqbal Town are the followings:
5
Open
Drain
Open

6. When deciding whether or not to carry out or commission a survey, you must keep in mind the limitations of
surveys. Because surveys collect data at a single point in time, it is difficult to measure changes in the population
unless two or more surveys are done at different points in time. The limitations of the survey are the followings
which are:
6
Insecurity
limiting
access to the
population
of concern
Un-friendly
Environment
Conservative

Security

Benefits of Urban Green Spaces
• Physical
• Psychological
• Social
• Environmental
• Economical
Benefits of green spaces
• Parks and green spaces which have walking paths
and fitness equipment are more preferred by citizens,
• Parks and green spaces which have non-traffic
density around and have more green space, have
been visited more.
• People do exercise regularly in open spaces with
adequate equipment.
• Citizens prefer parks which are larger and have more
green space, rather than small ones in the city.
• Citizens are satisfied with using sports equipment
free of charge in urban green spaces, rather than pay
for a gym. - Especially in summer days, people visit
green spaces in order to cool off.

A problem tree analysis is a pictorial
representation of a problem, its causes
and its consequences. This analysis tool
helps the project team get a quick glance
of how a range of complex issues
contribute toward a problem and how
this problem branches out into a set of
consequences.
METHODOLOGY TO CREATE THE PROBLEM TREE DIAGRAM
Settle on the core problem. The first step in developing the problem tree is
to identify the problem that the project seems to overcome
Identify the causes and effects
Develop the solution tree
Select the preferred intervention

14. Objective Analysis Tree is a project planning tool that helps to
analyze and graphically break down objectives into smaller and
more manageable parts. The Objective Analysis Tree basically
converts the problematic issues of the Problem Analysis Tree into
positive desired results. Objective analysis is the process of
interpolating data from irregularly spaced locations to a fixed grid.
In addition to simply gridding unevenly-spaced data, objective
analysis can filter data.
METHODOLOGY TO CREATE THE OBJECTIVE
TREE DIAGRAM
Turn all the problems (i.e. the negative situations) into
objectives (i.e. positive, realized future states) starting
from the top. Just as in the problem tree, it is important
that all stakeholders participate
It is important that the objectives are realistically and
ethically achievable
Add important cause-effect relationships
Check cause-effect relationships: as means-end
relationships for validity and completeness
Delete the objectives that are not necessary
Draw connecting lines to the appropriate objectives at
the different levels Objective

In order to give the direction to the Allama Iqbal Town, a part
of the plan was added in Master Plan. The Allama Iqbal Town,
Lahore consisted over many housing blocks and residential
area. The total population of Lahore is 11.13 million which is
increasing dramatically. Lahore comes in the list of Mega cities
of the world. Allama Iqbal Town is a commercial and a
residential locality in the south-western Lahore. It is named
after Allama Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. Development
was started in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Allama Iqbal
Town situated near Muslin Town and the main roads which
serve the Allama Iqbal Town are Wahdat Road and Marghazar
Road. The questionnaire based survey was done for data
gathering method that is utilized to collect, analyze and
interpret the different views of a group of people from a
particular population.

Land use maps can be developed and made available
for review to aid this process. Land use is when an area
is used for a specific purpose. There are five types of
land use: residential, agricultural, recreation,
transportation, and commercial. People should make
sure they use land responsibly to respect other people
and our environment.

The most important outcome of a
stakeholder analysis is to know
which stakeholders will support
you and which stakeholders are
likely to block you. If you know
this, you can manage your
stakeholders accordingly. Based on
your stakeholder analysis you will
be able to anticipate which
stakeholders will require some
change management as you
progress through your project.

Correlation analysis is a statistical method used to
evaluate the strength of relationship between two
quantitative variables. A high correlation means that
two or more variables have a strong relationship with
each other, while a weak correlation means that the
variables are hardly related. A correlation coefficient is
a numerical measure of some type of correlation,
meaning a statistical relationship between two
variables. The variables may be two columns of a given
data set of observations, often called a sample, or two
components of a multivariate random variable with a
known distribution.

Hotspot analysis is a spatial analysis and mapping
technique interested in the identification of clustering
of spatial phenomena. These spatial phenomena are
depicted as points in a map and refer to locations of
events or objects.
25. 25
Regression analysis is a powerful statistical method that allows you to examine the
relationship between two or more variables of interest. While there are many types of
regression analysis, at their core they all examine the influence of one or more independent
variables on a dependent variable.
26. OPEN DRAIN MENTAL MAP
26
In behavioral geography, a mental map is a person's point-of-view perception of their area of interaction. The
major problems the people of Allama Iqbal Town are facing are open drainage problem and lack of open space
problem. By over-seeing the problems there are some proposals which have been extracted with the help of some
case studies and literature reviews. Then that proposals have been put to the public and with the help of mental
mapping there came the results of people perception.

A proposal is a document proposing a research project,
generally in the sciences or academia, and generally
constitutes a request for sponsorship of that research.
Proposals are evaluated on the cost and potential
impact of the proposed research, and on the soundness
of the proposed plan for carrying it out. According to
the people of the Allama Iqbal Town, there are much
more socioeconomic, geographical and topological
problems they are facing, but at the base of majority
perception, there are major two problems in the
Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore. As an urban planner, we
have tried our best to mitigate their problems. We want
to propose the solutions according to the locality
suggestions and perceptions in such a way they feel
more convenient and sustainable.
