4. Intentions for content
My intention for my content is to create an
exhibition of photos showing York and the
surrounding areas from both the previous century
and current times.
5. Reasons for making it
The reason I have chosen to create a photo-based
piece is because I want to experiment with
presenting my work in this form. The piece itself fits
perfectly for our audience and theme as it is York
throughout the decades. It will also later help me
with creating my FMP as it is allowing me to
practice and decide if I would like to use a photo-
based medium
6. Why this is suitable
Its suitable as it fits into both my
theme and target audience as well
as giving me a platform to practice
7. Research I plan to do
The research for this project will be consist mainly
of locating the historic images of York; I have found
that the press has a large archive of images which I
could use. The latter of the research would be to
then track down the locations to be able to get the
photos in order to compare the times; how I am to
do this I am yet to decide
8. How it will link
My plan for this project links in to my fmp as
It will allow me to experiment and explore
the ways in which I can present photographs
and if it is something I would like to pursuit
into my FMP. If it is something I feel would
work and not feel to empty and minimum by
itself then it will be an option to include into
my FMP.
9. Planning
My idea :
My idea for my project is to create images representing the past and present
of York's streets and surrounding areas. I will predominantly focus on the
areas surrounding where I live as it will be easier to get to with equipment
however if I feel there is potential for a good idea somewhere else I will add it
to the list. I also want to feature the town centre as its an area everyone will
be able to recognise and connect with.
11. ARTIST PROFILE
Attie uses projection to cast old
images of the location/ building (
usually featuring a person or a group
of people) onto the building or in
modern times. I think it creates an
extremely powerful image.
The photos are from two collections
from 1991-2(Writing on the wall) and
2002-3(History of Another). Based in
Berlin and Rome respectively, the
Berlin project features a lot of
Jewish culture, business and people.
It was to show how the anti-Semitic
history and the rise of the Nazi party
tore this culture from the streets.
Even in 1991 the streets and shops
that once were filled with Jewish
culture are still neglected and
derelict.

12. David Hockney
Joiners Project
The project began when a friend of Hockney's
left some film role behind.
Sometime before 1982, Hockney commented
that Photography is all right if you don't mind looking
at the world from the point of view of a paralysed
cyclops-for a split second. His tough opinion,
however, changed when in February 1982 a curator
visiting his house in the Hollywood Hills forgot some
Polaroid film and Hockney started to experiment with
it, trying to capture the three dimensions of
surrounding reality. What arose from these
experiments are the most stunning composite
photographs/photocollages (you call it) that you will
see in a long time.

13. Potential Photos
to recreate
I have chosen these photos
as my focus for this project
due to there location and
what I feel like there
potential is. Each site I feel
has either had a
remarkable change or is
weirdly almost the exact
same.
I have chosen 12 images so
I have a gap for loss, within
my project my target is to
finish with at minimum 8
images, this gives me a
safety net of 4 images to
not turn out how I would
like.
14. Locations
Huntington:
• Tesco
• Flag and Whistle
• Fisheries
Heworth:
• Road opposite costcutter
• Outside Co-Op
• Bridge over cycle track
Town:
• Shambles
• Lord Mayors Walk
• Coney street
All of these area are very accessible
so I shouldn’t have any issues
getting to these despite weather, but
within 2 weeks there should be at
least 3 days where I can get to each
one individually if it comes to it.
15. Equipment and a
personnel
I will need both minimum equipment and
minimum personnel for this project.
Equipment wise I only need my camera
and photoshop or some form of editing
software which is more than accessible
on the college computers. It doesn’t
require any microphones, potentially a
tripod or use of the studio. Personnel
wise the only personnel I need is myself
as I only need to take the photos then
edit it them, it doesn’t require any actors
or extra people.
