Project proposal title and date:
Stadiademic 17/02/2022
Main area of activity:
For my FMP I will be creating a documentary, my main area of work will be video.
Rationale:
Over the past two years I have experimented with a range of mediums, however the one in which I
have enjoyed the most was working with video and film creation. I have gained skills in using
Premier Pro. This has given me the ability to piece together footage to a good quality, with this I
will be able to create a final piece to a high standard. My last video project was a football
orientated interview so that is a nice steppingstone into what I have planned for this one as it is a
common theme, and I will be able to put my skills from that project straight into this one just on a
bigger scale. This is also the sort of sector I want to end up working in so it will help to keep me
motivated as not only do I enjoy the filmmaking side, but I am also heavily interested and involved
with football.
Project Concept:
The initial plan for my project is to create a Disneyfied documentary on what life was like working
within a stadium during the recent pandemic. A Disneyfied documentary is one which focuses
heavily on the entertainment side of it rather than the gritty knowledge and education side, a
simplified documentary for the modern audience. I want to focus more on the media team and the
external workers rather than the football clubs' employees and players themselves. This will
include archive footage of games and crowds mid-covid and how it is now as we are getting back
to ‘normal.’ As of current time I have one interview confirmed with a professional who works as a
sports journalist and covers championship level football matches and hopefully I will be able to get
interviews confirmed with a range of different specialists who work within the stadium. I plan to talk
to them about what it was like for them during the pandemic and how this affected their workload
and how they had to work regarding covid protocols, the change of atmosphere around a stadium
and whether they think they have been able to grow from this or if it has set them back within their
industry. Most of the research that I will construct is viewing and looking into past documentaries
around football and the sports environment, I have already gathered a list of potential
documentaries to look at however I would like to find more that are more focused on the back staff
and the media side of it, if there is any at all. Another side of my research will be to look more into
the theoretical side of documentary making, this will include theories of how documentaries work
and are made as well as other codes and conventions of filmmaking and documentation.
Hopefully, this will help me to create a piece of work which ties in with the layout of documentaries
and something which will fit into this new era of film and the modern style of documentary..
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
The project will be evaluated throughout the project and afterwards. Throughout the project I am
going to keep a production log, this will include a weekly input of what I have done each day, what
I plan to do the next as well as what went well and what did not go to plan. Not only will this help
me keep track of my project and the ideas I come up with on a daily basis, but the final evaluation
will be made a lot easier as I will have an entry for why I decided to venture from my original plans
and how I did. The final evaluation will be a PowerPoint document talking through the creative
decisions I made and the reasons as to why I deviated from the plan and what I did to get to my
new final result. It will also include the overall difficulties and successes of the entire project.
Another way in which my project will be reviewed and evaluated is by peers, this wont just be
