2. What I am researching
The main goal for this powerpoint is for me to be able to look and at
and try to determine a way of presenting my work. By presenting we
mean finding it some form of publicity or getting it known to the
public and most importantly my target audience. This is of course
general football and sports fan, but to be more specific it is those with
an underlying interest in sports media and sports journalism and want
to find out more about this quite hidden sector.
3. Film Festival
Film festivals are a great way to gain exposure for young
talented film directors wanting to start out in the industry.
They offer a large audience to view your film and are given
the option to give feedback; seeing as though they have come
to watch these and obviously have an interest in amateur
films then I am sure they are willing and do give feedback
We have a local film festival in AESTHETICA here in York,
however it is earlier on in the year for when we need
production to be finished. As well as it feels like it is tailored
for universities and small studio backed projects to sample
their work.
I don’t know how reliable it is due to the date and the pricing
being in dollars, but supposedly a fee is required to submit
projects which makes it seem not worthwhile
4. Film Festival – would this work for me
Personally I do not think that film festivals are the route I want to take
for my presentation. There are not many accessible locally at this time
of year and the submission fee heavily puts me off. Film festivals also
seem heavily tailored for short film and music videos rather than
documentaries.
There for I don’t think this is what I will be pursuing for my
presentation.
5. Merchandise
Merchandise is a great way to advertise a brand or movie.
However it requires an established figure or brand to be able to
promote the merchandise itself as it needs an audience/fanbase to
wear it or buy it for it to have an affect.
As well as this producing merchandise can be expensive and a difficult
ordeal.
6. Merchandise – would this work for me
Again, I don’t think merchandise is something that I will be doing. I
don’t think it fits a documentary as there is no established characters
to form it around and sell it. It is also the first episode ( or a pilot) so
there wont be enough of an established fan base who would wear the
merch for it to generate any form of promotion. Due to this I don’t
think it is worthwhile for this and there are certainly better options for
my presentation which will gain me more exposure
7. Social media accounts
I think in todays culture one of the best ways of gaining exposure and
advertising a product is through social media. It creates an easy
ground to branch off into.
You are able to create continuous and regular posts to be able to draw
an audience in and it makes it easier than every to connect and
interact with them. Commenting and sharing can help you gain not
only an audience but also gain feedback from seeing what people are
saying they enjoy about it or if they simple do not enjoy it
8. Social media accounts – would this work for me
A social media account is definitely something I am going to make to
promote and show off my work. Its free so there is no reason not to.
As well as the fact it makes it easy to publish and show snippets of my
work and the fact I am able to upload links to stories and my bio
makes it incredible easy to share the link to my youtube post.
I think I will probably add the project to my photography account as it
is already very heavily based on sports photography so it is fitting.
9. idents
Idents are small snippets to promote something. They often have
some artistic interest or a humorous gag within it. Adult swim and E4
are probably the best known for these, they play them before the start
of every show and post them online. They quite often have different
collaborators as well as different directors. I think they are an
incredible thing as it allows young talent or small directors to promote
their work through the ident whilst the channel gets the promotion it
wants whilst using it.
10. Idents – would this work for me
I think something similar to an ident would be really useful. I don’t
have the times or the resources to be able to create an in depth and
detailed ident. But I think getting short clips from my project and
uploading them to Instagram or TikTok would be a good way to
present my work. Almost like an ident mixed with a trailer, short form
content is becoming one of the largest form of advertisement which is
becoming apparent through the success of apps like tiktok and
instagram reels.
11. Sponsored or related posts
Sponsored posts are something which Instagram feed into your feed
every 5 – 10 posts. They are something that brands or Influencers will
pay a fee for and it will be sent to people based on their algorithms
and the sort of stuff they view. Although a potential invasion of
privacy I think it’s a great way to advertise, it sends content straight to
the people who are likely to enjoy or want to partake in/buy from.
12. Sponsored or related posts – would this work for me
If this was a project I was trying to monetize and make money from
this is definitely something I would take advantage of. I think it is
definitely up there with potentially the best options of advertisement
as its tailored directly to and for the audience you are trying to send it
to.
However due to the fact you have to pay to be able to take advantage
of, I don’t think it is viable for this project.
13. What I plan to do and why I have chosen this strategy
I think what I want to do is create a social media and set up posts
before the release of it. Potentially uploading photos I took at the
game with some form of link to it. Aswell as this I might make a tiktok
and upload small clips of my project to this.
I would like to take advantage of sponsored posts but I don’t have the
fund to do this nor do I think its profitable.
14. What I have done
In the end I have added posts to my photography account that are
linked or have some form of connection to my project. I have done this
an entire month before I uploaded my project. Later I uploaded
screenshots of my project with captions saying released now and that
the link is in the bio( the link was added into my biography ). I
uploaded small clips onto my story and then saved them into the
highlights. I chose to do this rather than on tiktok due to the music and
copyright, I didn’t want to upload it to tiktok to have the sound
removed.
